DB:4.59:The Trouble With Vista Ultimate 64bit... mc

I guess it's worth saying that, whether or not you can get Audition (or any other DAW) working on your Vista, you ought to be looking at upgrading to Win 7. Vista was, shall we say, not a particularly good implemenation for any serious audio work. XP was great (but no longer gets MS support) and Win 7 seems pretty good.

Wouldn't touch Windows 8 with a bargepole though...

i have vista ultimate 64bit and want to upgrade to windows 7 ultimate 64bit. can i do a clean install rather than an upgrade in place? will windows 7 accept the vista install disk key at that time??

    DB:4.50:Vista Ultimate 64bit To Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit 1c

My research that the upgrade version will ONLY WORK on computers with a valid XP or Vista Operating System installed.
To install on a bare drive you need the Full Version not the upgrade.
The upgrade allows a computer running Vista several install options...
Custom install allows a "Clean Install" with no data saved or you can download a free upgrade program from MS that saves
your data settings on a removal hard drive, preforms a drive format and then you can restore the saved Data.

You cannot upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit. You have to perform a Clean installation. Yes, unless you backup all of your data, you will lose it. Make sure that there are 64 bit drivers available for your hardware.

    DB:4.43:Upgrading Vista 32bit To 64bit Ultimate 1k

32bit to 64bit has to be a clean install, not an upgrade.

Did you check with your computer Manufacturer's to make sure tha all your 64bitDrivers are availavle?

Save your Data, boot from 64bit ultimate disk, load files, delete existing 32bit version, make a new partition, format, install.
Just follow instructions on the Disk.

And you will have to reinstall all your 3rd Party Programs.

    Cheers.

    Mick.
    Say Mick,

A brief question, the OP didn't say whether he had a upgrade, or RC, or OEM. But my question is about the OEM version. If I wanted to install the OEM version, do I really need to go through the OPK process if I'm installing on my own PC? I understand that
going from Vista 32, to Ultimate 64 bit, that I'll have to do a clean install. But I'm wondering if I can skip some steps by not using part, or all of the OPK applications..?

Hopefully that isn't too confusing! :P

    Thanks!

    DB:4.11:Vista 64bit Ultimate Won't Render?? p3

First off, Jake, the text color you've chosen makes this thread hard to read. Best to keep it as default unless you're trying to highlight a point.Second, this area is for questions regarding Max 2009. There is a separate forum for Viz users, although it isn't very busy these days. If anything, this should have been posted on the next forum down, the Version 2008 and earlier area. But PLEASE don't just repost this. Maybe a moderator can move it later. Now for your question, what exactly do you mean by the "rendering box"? Is it the render frame window, where the final render is displayed? Usually when a window doesn't show, it's because it's somehow gotten moved off screen. Try renaming the vizstart.ini file to vizstart.ini.old and start up Viz. If this doesn't fix it, let us know.

Since you're only going to use it for activation and subsequent synching, you could go with Windows XP. Might be less hassle.

What would be sweet is if in Parallels you can access your host drive, then you could get your data (movies, songs, TV shows, etc) prep'd in Vista and then just launch XP to sync.

Regarding using a non activated version of Vista, remember you need to use iTunes every time you want to add / remove files. I would not recommend that method, even though it would work for activation.

    Good luck

All of your drivers/program installers are in C:\SwSetup on your hdd. Copy it to dvd for safety before changing anything. Most HP drivers are 32/64 bit compatible.(Check some of the driver descriptons in the links above, most say 32/64 bit.)

The links above I only posted in case one of them was actually your model, though the drivers probably would work.

Btw, if you haven't done so_make your Recovery set before installing new OS or changing the hdd partitions in any way:

    Hi

Thank you for using Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.

    Method 1:

Let us double check the RAM memory in System information.

    1. Click on start.
    2. Type msinfo32 in start search and hit enter.
    3. Check the RAM memory in system tab and let me know.

    Method 2:

Let us try to update Windows 7 and check for the issue.

    1. Click on start and programs.
    2. Run Windows update and check for the issue.

I would suggest you to update all the drivers and check the issue.

    Method 3:

Check the both the RAM and secondary hard drive in BIOS and contact the computer manufacturer to update your BIOS.

You also need to enable the memory remapping feature in your BIOS.

Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of
BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

Please post back and let us know if this has helped to resolve your issue.

OK, you're looking for a webcam.

I admit I don't know what's supported by Vista64, but I have a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 and am very happy with it. Since it's USB Video Class (UVC) compliant it may even have drivers built into Vista (not sure of this, I don't run Vista on any of my machines, just XP and Linux.)

Do some research on Logitech models and you should find some with good Vista64 support.

    DB:3.88:Vista 64bit xf

Hello,One of the largest advantages to using an x64 version of Microsoft Windows is that it can address more than 4GB of RAM in the computer (although all ThinkPads I have seen are limited to 4GB). With a 32-bit operating system, you can typically access about 3GB of RAM in any recently manufactured ThinkPad due to system architecture limitations. If you were to upgrade your ThinkPad for 4GB of RAM, it would probably make a difference, but otherwise I suspect any advantages would be offset by the fact that the 64-bit version of Windows Vista consumes more memory than the 32-bit version, so you would have less memory available for applications after installing it on your 2GB ThinkPad.Regards,Aryeh Goretsky

DB:3.85:Upgrading To Win Ultimate From Win Vista--Laptop Shutdownsgoes Blank Abruptly z8

The computer’s seemingly spontaneous rebooting could be caused by hardware factors or software issues. On the hardware side, if the fan is ailing or the air vents are blocked, the machine may be overheating. If this seems to be the case, replacing the fan,
    cleaning the vents and clearing space around the computer may help. (A utility program that displays the processor’s temperature may be helpful;

    Core Temp and
SpeedFan are two such programs and shareware archives have others.)
A bad memory chip can also bring a machine down. A free memory test program like HCI Design’s
    MemTest or the

Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool can help confirm or rule out faulty RAM as the culprit. Problems with the computer’s motherboard, power supply or hard drive could also be the cause but may require a computer technician
    to properly diagnose and repair.

On the software side, malicious programs like viruses and spyware can cause erratic behavior and random reboots, so make sure you have an up-to-date security program installed on the computer. Basic versions of
    Avast and
AVG Anti-Virus Free are free. Microsoft offers its own

suite of free security programs as well.

If you have installed new hardware devices recently, the machine may be suffering from a
driver conflict. Drivers are small files that let Windows communicate with the hardware that’s attached to it, but sometimes these driver
files clash with each other. Microsoft has tips for using the
Device Manager utility to troubleshoot driver problems.

There is no upgrade path from Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, clean install only. You can use the Windows Easy Transfer utility included on the Windows 7 DVD to backup your person files and settings. You will have to reinstall
    your applications though.

    System requirements for Windows 7:

    1 GHz CPU 32 or 64 bit
1 GB of RAM (2 GBs for 64 bit)
16 GBs of hard disk (20 GBs for 64 bit)
Direct X 9 compliant video card with 128 MB vRAM for Windows Aero

Can I install 32bit Windows7 Ultimate on my machine running Vista Business SP264bit?

DB:3.76:Can I Install 32bit Windows7 Ultimate On My Machine Running Vista Business Sp2 64bit fx

Can I order 64bit Windows7 Pro using 32bit Vista Business code?

Yes you can buy 64 bit.

If you are referring to the "Free Windows 7 Upgrade Offer With A New Computer" ask your computer manufacturer if you can get 64 bit. Usually when you buy Windows preloaded on a computer you only get the bit level currently installed on the computer.

32bit to 64bit Custom Clean Install Steps

You can use an upgrade disk, but you can't do an in place upgrade from a 32 bit system into a 64 bit system, the only way is to do a custom clean install. This means you'll have to reinstall all your programs, but you can save your files and
settings to an external storage before doing so with Windows Easy Transfer. Here are the steps according to Microsoft:

    1. Run Windows Upgrade Advisor (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/upgrade-advisor ) to see if there are any known issues that might affect
the installation and whether you should install the 32 or 64 bit version of Windows 7.

    2. Back up your files and settings. To avoid losing anything you'll need to save copies of all the files, photos, and other information you want to keep on to an external hard drive. Windows Easy Transfer (http://windows.microsoft.com/windows-easy-transfer
) is a free tool you can use to copy your information (but not programs) from your PC and then put them back after you install Windows 7. If you don't have an external hard drive you won't be able to use Windows Easy Transfer, instead you can copy files you
want to keep on a USB flash drive, or on CD/DVD.

    3. Locate the original installation disks and any associated product/license keys for the programs currently on your computer because you'll need to manually reinstall all your programs after you install Windows 7. You might be able to download some programs
    from the Internet.

    4. Inset the Windows 7 DVD into your PC, restart, and boot from the DVD. When asked "Which type of installation do you want?" click "Custom (advanced)."

    5. After Windows 7 is installed you can use Windows Easy Transfer to restore your files settings, and use your installation disks to install all your programs.

I also qualify for OEM upgrade
Free Windows 7 Upgrade Offer With A New Computer
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/buy/offers/upgrade-option.aspx

(If you mean you're going to buy Windows 7 OEM please note you must do a custom clean install.)

Going from 64 bit to 32 bit (original question)

Windows Easy Transfer will not work going from 64 bit to 32 bit, you must manually backup.

Yes, it is better to perform a clean installation of Windows 7 to upgrade your system. Before launching the installation, it is recommended manually copying important personal data to another partition, external hard drive or discs. Alternatively, you can run Backup and Restore Center to back up user profile and other important data. For your convenience, I have included the reference link below (the same as the link posted in my initial reply.)

32-bit and 64-bit Windows: frequently asked questions

No. If you are currently running a 32-bit version of Windows, you can only perform an upgrade to another 32-bit version of Windows. Similarly, if you are running a 64-bit version of WindowsVista, you can only perform an upgrade to another 64-bit version of

Before upgrading to 64 bit OS, please check with the manufacturers website if the computer model support 64 bit vista. they should have 64 bit vista compatible drivers listed on their website under your computers model.

As far as the installtion is concerned , yes you can perform a clean installation using an upgrade DVD, how ever you will get an error while activation (0xc004f061).There are two resolution:

1.You can contact 18009365700 and run a MSDT tool to activate successfully. the complete process will take 5-10 minutes.

I just bought a Dell XPS m1530 with 4gigs of ram and a 64bit processor, and I checked the status, and it had been shipped. I was looking down the specs to find that my version of vista is 32bit. Well, I bought ultimate so I can run my 64bit applications, now none of them will run at all. Is this a mistake? or have they reached a new level of stupidity by shipping vista ultimate at only 32bit? If it is, does it come with a vista 64x license?

Recovery CDs work on only Factory Image which has factory installed Operating System...if you want to install Windows Vista 64 bit edition, you need to download and install the programs seperately in the same way you have done now. If you can explain the problem in using the downloaded applications, I might be able to help you resolve the problem. There is no other way but to install them in bits and peices as available on web. There is no point in starting from square one.

The post i linked to is the reason why i want to obtain a refund. This post meaning is to understand which is the way i can have the refund of money i spent.

Then download the English Language Packthrough Windows Optional Update.

The Upgrade to Vista Ultimatehas to be done in the original Language Vista came in.

    2. Your other Option is to buy a FULL version of English Vista Operating System, and do a clean install.

Before you do anything go to the manufacture site and check to see what drivers are available. They should have drivers for 32 bit and 64 bit. Download the 32bit if your not doing the upgrade. If you do not you may not be able to connect to the web and
get them later after a clean install leaving you in the dark if you do not have more than one computer. Believe me on this some integrated network adapters are not recognized by windows and require manufacturer drivers. You could be paralyzed after a clean
install when you can not go online and download the drivers you need including the network driver. Been their before chips like atheros are notorious for lack of support.

For me it is logic to check drivers availability at first and then start OS installation. What do you think about it?

Anyway if Toshiba doesn’t support your notebook model for 64-bit OS you must try to find them elsewhere. Can you please tell me why you want to use 640bit version? Because of RAM?

You can use your notebook if you install original recovery image you got with your notebook. I just hope you have created recovery DVD (recommended by Toshiba) before you have installed 64-bit OS.

Admin message:There is no need to post in a large bold font!

    DB:3.54:Upgrade To Windows 7 fm

With regards to the installation only you cannot upgrade from any 32 bit Windows to any 64 bit Windows as i already said. So if you want you can restore your system back to factory with vista 32 bit, but it's a waste of time since you have to scratch that installation anyway. Installing a 64 bit Windows on a blank disk and installing 64 bit windows on a disk that already contains a 32 bit Windows would be the same operation since you cannot upgrade and the result would be a new installation of Windows 7 x64 either way. So i would suggest that you just install Windows 7 x64 and forget about installing Vista 32 first, but ifyou feel like installing Vista 32 bit first then it's up to you. It's not necessary to install Vista 32 bit first and there is no advantage of doing so, but it will take you some more time. Also upgrade from Vista 32 to Vista 64 is neither supported so since you have to start over with a new installation in any case just start by install Windows7 x64 and forget about Vista. With regards to the licensing only if you already have a a license for Vista Ultimate i think that gives you the right to use both the 32 and 64 bit version of Vista Ultimate. Then you can buy a upgrade from Vista Ultimate to Windows7 Ultimate. I also beleve it's the same for Windows 7 so with the Ultimate edition you can choose to install the 32 bit or the 64 bit version since your license will cover both. So i'm almost certain all you have to do is to buy a upgrade from Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Ultimate, but you can check this to be sure. In any case there is not need to buy the full version which is more expensive. So i would suggest to buy the upgrade, then install Windows 7 x64 and no previous installation of Vista orrestore to factory before installing Windows 7.
