Hi. Can someone help me on how to compile my Java code to executables? I use J2SDK 1.4.1_04. Thanks.

    DB:4.76:Compiling To Executables xd

Why are free ones no good?

They all have unique limitations (for instance, GCJ can't handle graphics) that prevent their universal use, and in most cases don't do anything more than jar'ing tha application does. My opinion, of course.

Can someone please help with this question - what it takes to deploy a forms executable? Is it just generating or compiling an FMB into FMX and copying the executable to the target (such as a desktop) and then execute the FMX file...that's all it takes or am I missing anything.

Appreciate any information or help on this.

    Thanks
    Chandra

    DB:3.81:Generating Forms Executables... ka

Forms 6i is reaching its End-of-Life on January 2008, after that it is unsupported and uncertified under new platforms and products. So you have about couple of month.

As for your question, usually the deployment of the FMXs in client/server is on a server machine and the directory is mapped to the client machines (mapped drive) and the runtime client reads from this directory, no need to deploy the FMXs on every client machine.

but again, I recommend you use the latest Forms 10g R2 which is supported.

DB:3.81:Are There Problems With Running Vb6 Executables On Windows Xp That Were Compiled Under Windows 7? pc

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 Professional and ported my VB6 development system to it without any problems. I did NOT tick the 'Run in Windows XP Compatability mode' in the VB6.EXE Properties window as the IDE seems works just fine (apart from being a
bit slow when pasting Controls onto a Form).
I have been compiling programs without problems and have tested them on my old Windows XP computer and they seem to work just fine. It is an accounting package that stores data in an Access (Jet 4) database.
I began supplying these executables to my clients(who run mostly XP computers) this week. Yesterday, one of these clients (in a busy 9 terminal environment) reported random 'freezing' when accessing the Access database over a LAN to Windows 2003 Server.
They say that everything worked fine until they installed the new executables. I have supplied these executables to numerous other clients who have not reported any problems.
Using Microsoft's FC.EXE (File Compare program), I have compared an executable compiled under Win7 with the same executable compiled under WinXP and, although they are identical in size, there are lots of differences between them.
Is anyone aware of problems running VB6 executables on WinXP that were compiled under Win7?

    Several things:

I have a large code with mixed Fortran 77 and 90 with Lapack calls. It compiles on RH7.3 with ifc 7.1 and mkl 5.2 (statically and shared) and it runs correctly. On RH7.3, RH8 and RH9 with ifc 7.1 and mkl 6 it will compile only shared (since mkl 6 has no libmkl_p4.a). But each of these three executables (compiled with mkl 6) go into never-never land when they run (infinite loop of some kind after finishing incorrectly earlier phases of the run). It seems to me it may have to do with some poor floating point arithmetic since these three executables enter a check for a small floating point number they should not enter. Any thoughts?

Also, the executable statically linked with mkl 5.2 works great and the executable runs great. Why did Intel not keep static linking with mkl 6? This is one reason for my company's interest in Intel compilers: we could statically link, send anywhere, and not get in trouble with the GNU license issue. Also static linking makes maintenance much easier with users.

To statically link (with Lapack and mkl 5.2) I used:
    -static -lmkl_lapack -lmkl_p4 -lguide -lPEPCF90 -lpthread

To statically link a different large c++ code with GNU g++ I used:
    -static -llapack -lblas -lg2c

I withdraw my slander of mkl 6. Forgot about a small change I made to the source when moving files to our new Linux network with mkl 6 a couple weeks ago. mkl 6 is clean. Sorry.

Hello all, I have a question concerning compiling code into executables. I want to be able to have users input data into a standard set of code using a form and create an executable file using the code with the new data.  So I'm sort of looking for the code that VB uses to compile programs. I'm not sure if this is clear or not, maybe I can make it a bit more simple.  Say I have a starting form with three textboxes, the information from these three textboxes is placed into a preloaded set of code, and after the code is placed I want the program to create an executable to where the program can be launched with the new data, so no one program is the same and is using their unique data. Is this possible? Any help is appreciated.

One: I have a router and I don't have any idea how to
make java recognize my Internet IP. It only uses my
LAN IP.You have to set up your router to forward the requests to the relevant port to your internal IP, this is sometimes called port forwarding or port mapping.

Two: The only way to get a response from the chess
engine is to run an executable. Is there a way to
execute and retrieve data from an executable? If you are trying to use a native executable, check out java.lang.Runtime. Otherwise elaborate!

    DB:3.24:Deployment - Configure Executables ? c9

I am trying to make a deployment file for one package. Under executables, there are some sequence containers. The structure is like this -
Executables Sequence Container Variables, Properties, Executables (call it sub-executable)
Under sub-executable, I see the tasks which in turn have the structure:

eg. For loop Task Executables Variables Properties Enumerator properties.
I only use global variables. So, I don't see why I should have to configure any of these executables. Am I missing something here ? Why is there a configuration option for these executables when all variables, connections etc are already configured/checked
    ?

    DB:3.24:Deployment - Configure Executables ? c9

    Hi blastoSO,
The variable can be seen in multiple nodes when configuring the package configurations because of the factor that a variable is visible to its scope and objects within this scope. When configure the package configurations, we can configure a variable in
any scope only if the variable is visible and configurable. In this situation, be careful to avoid conflicts for the same variable at different levels. Generally speaking, it is recommended that we configure a variable at its root level. For example,
for a package level variable, justnavigate to Package - Variablesto configure the variable.

I'm getting various wierd errors and also windows FoxPro fatal errors on some of the computers that run the executables and I understand SP5 may help, but I've installed on my development computer, recompiled and recreated executable and redistributed, but its not helped. Any suggestions?
All the computers are running XP, all I can think is that some have different updates applied and one is conflicting.
I've looked at the VFP6*.dll files in windows\system32 directory and they don't seem to have changed.
I'm trying to move main system on to VFP9, but the SQL changes to this version mean lots of recoding and I need to find a fix soon.

Ah so these are just the VFP6R.dll and VFP6RENU.dll. I never realised they needed replacing, assumed that everything was in the exe, but actually that doesn't really make sense. Must try engaging brain occasionally.
I've replaced these with the ones on my dev machine, so keeping fingers crossed that probs will magically disappear....

We build executables from libraries that contain most of the routines that we use and main program that might contain a few subroutines. Our libraries are built with IVF 9.0. The libraries do contain mixed langauge routines as we have quite a few C routines that are used in the code. The executables might be built using any version of the compiler upto and including 11.1. But we find that some of our models won't run when compiled with 11.1 They same libraries and main program work fine using 11.0 and earlier versions of the compiler. The executables seem to go into an infinite loop in some models when using 11.1 (there are some that run fine, but anything less than 100% of them isn't acceptable). The process has to be terminated using the task manager. Then I find that there is a traceback where the codehas died during a deallocation. It doesn't happen in every instance. But test models that have run for years, won't run when compiled and linked with 11.1. We find even compiling the libraries with 11.0 and then compiling the main routine and linking with 11.1 results in the infinite loop. Are there any known reasons for this? I read all the release notes and couldn't find anything that would suggest 9.0 libraries should have incompatabilities. Any suggestions as to how to figure out why these models get stuck when using 11.1?

Do you know if you compiled your libraries for Modelsim?

You should see them in your Libraries tab.

The Libraries that you should see is the "secureip" and "unisims_ver" libraries.

If you have them compiled, then you need to make sure that your vsim command uses these libraries.

You'll need to add the following to you vsim command:

    -L unisims_ver

    -L secureip

You can only do that in Windows. And you will find those executables named in the Windows registry somewhere. Since this question is totally concerned with Windows and nothing at all to do with Java, you should go over to MSDN where you should be able to find the answer.

Well, first off for this to work, you need to have based your policy off the Desktop All Types or similar. Then you find your altiris application location and files/extensions and choose the menu Configuration/Applications/Windows Application Classes, and look for the class named "Mass software deployment applications" this contains SMS and Altiris per default, if you are not hitting this rule, maybe you should check that altiris path/files are correct in the "Software distibution and inventory - Altiris Agent - All exes" File set.

The problem is a common one.

The issue is that the low-level machine routines which try to

    on OPTS I have

We have developed a software in Oracle developer 6i by using Oracle database 10g at backend. We want to deploy it on the client side. What we would do is to make a machine a server, and then on that server we would place Oracle database and the executables of the software. From the client, the short cut to those executables would be used.

We want to somehow associate those executables with that server seamlessly, as if anybody places those executables on any other machine and try to run it from there, it doesnt run.

Any ideas in that regard please?

    best regards

    DB:3.05:Securing The Executables k9

Reading a file will not secure the application against a machine's disks being copied onto another machine. Reading the Mac address might be more secure. See Duncan Mills' post here:
MAC address of DB or Client machine

I would put the code into a pll, but you'll need to alter it for each client.

Restricting the executables to a single machine will prevent the client taking advantage of load balancing. Is this really what you want, or do you just want to prevent them having multiple instances of the application (perhaps selling it on)?

Is It possible to produce a DLL/EXE with VC version higher than 6.0 which to use MFC and CRT as DLLs but those DLLs not to be unmanged assemblies (side-by-side) or whatever type. The only solution I have in mind is to link static and /MANIFEST:NO. So are all EXE/DLLs produced with newer versions of VC assemblies or not?

I detect confusion in your understanding of static linking. As soon as a program is statically linked there are NO dependencies on runtime DLL's, other than those belonging to the operating system. A statically linked program can be deployed by simply copying from one Windows operating system to another (typically).

    1. Where are you compiling from? Do you open up a dos prompt and use javac.exe to compile? Or, do you use an IDE to compile your code? Or, do you use Textpad that has a compile tool for java in it?

    2. Where are you setting the classpath? Are you setting it in the autoexec.bat? I didn't see a classpath line in the file you provided. Also, I didn't see a path reference for the java executables.

    3. What type of package is the Breezyswing? Is a directory structure with .class files in them or is it a JAR?

Is there an alternate way of rewriting the code above to prevent clear text login information from revealing in the executables?

    thanks.

    elain

DB:3.01:Clear Text Password After Compilation 3p

The behaviour you see is expected, because you are hardcoding/passing the password as cleartext in the Pro*c code. Real world applications will not store the password in clear text but would rather receive it as an input from the user.

One way you could avoid this is encrypting the password and storing it in the database.
You would then use a key to get the right password and authenticate.

But again, If you store encrypted passwords, you might have to do key management. If the key gets compromised, all the passwords are compromised too.

If possible you can use OS Authentication, where the OS username and password would be used during authentication. You don't have to pass any username and password in this case.

    Rgds.

I am able to build shared libraries with a normal *.a (this library is given and i can't rebuild it myself )

as expected if I build my objects and I try to link with the library *.a i get the error "the *.a was not compile with -fPIC cannot buld shared objects...."

the work around I figured out was , I compiled all object with the normal *.a library and -fPIC option
I have a collection of objects. I simply linked the objects to form the shared library and it works. If the performance is Ok , that is the question ?

Due to a contractual agreement with our customer we had to provide them with a Desktop Workstation with licenses for all of our build tools and source code so that they could support our product in the event that we go bankrupt, etc.
The problem is any time they build our source code and compare the output with the executable that we provided, the two executables are different even though the source code has not changed. I have confirmed this by compiling my code twice within a few minutes are comparing the output...they are indeed different. Our customer is very picky and event though the executables differ only by a few bytes they are technically different.
Are there settings which can prevent this from happending. I beleive the compiler is putting date/time information into the executable, which will obviously change between builds. Or is this fact documented somewhere in the MS Visual C++ documentation?

I'm trying to run the AXI Ethernet Subsystem testbench in the vivado simulator and at the end of the build process I get an error saying "Could not remove the obj directory: boost::filesystem::remove: The directory is not empty: "xsim.dir/gigabit_ethernet_demo_tb_behav/obj".

The obj folder in question is empty by the time I'm notified.

I was unable to find anything on google or the forums regarding this issue. I tried disabling multithreading thinking a process was finishing too early but that didn't help. I also tried disabling real time protection on my antivirus.

    I run windows 7 x64.

Does anybody have any other suggestions?

    Thank you.

Here's the log output from the simulation process

    Hello all,

Previously when using Visual Fortran version 10.1 when compiling code I found the exectuables to be approximately 450kb. Currently, while evaluating Visual Fortran 12.0 the executables seem to be 800kb+. I am curious ifthere isanything to account for increase in size?

    DB:2.99:Size Of Executables 8p

    Quoting jimdempseyatthecove

Interprocedural optimizaitons may be inlining more code. Turn IPO off then see what happens.

    Jim Dempsey

The settings implicit in /Qip are set up and down on each compiler release to keep pace with various other compilers and platforms. /Qip- or more detailed use of the documented limits associated with /Qip will help control object size. In addition, /O1 usually makes much smaller code than the default; you forgot to tell us if you set /O1 in both cases.
Newer compilers also tend to do more auto-vectorization and multiple versioning. If you have a specific problem with multi-versioning hurting performance, you should file the example on premier.intel.com. You could compare the opt-report between the compiler versions to see whether these attempted optimizations are involved.
If a new vectorization is not useful for you, perhaps on account of your loop count not matching the assumed value of 100 (in the case where the compiler can't estimate it from the context), you should consider
    !dir$ loop count(your expected value).

Hello, everyone. I just rooted my Android phone (an LG Ally), and decided that a fun way to try and use my newfound freedom would be to cross-compile some programs for it like Busybox, Lua, a fresh copy of Python, and possibly even pacman. (Being able to use makepkg to compile phone software would be awesome.)

I found the cross-arm-elf-binutils and cross-arm-gcc-base packages in community, so now the question is...how do I use them? From what I understand, it essentially comes down to bulding the software like normal, but using the executables from the cross-compiling package instead of the system installed ones. Is that basically right? Can you recommend any articles on cross-compiling in general, and for Android in particular?

    4.) Select "Compilers"

    5.) For 32-bit:
         a.) Under "Platform:", select "Win32"

         c.) Add the following:
             "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\bin"
             under
             "$(VCInstallDir)BIN"
         d.) Select "OK"

DC abstract the implementation of bussines service, in ADF BC is a representation of AppModule.
And Executables represents an iterator binding object, is a part of the Binding Layer and is how ADF exposes a data control information for each page.

DB:2.96:Why Does Cvi2013 Build Two Executables? ak

Yes, tstanley is correct. I believe the change happened in version 2010, when the use of build configurations became widespread. It was important to place all the build output files, including the .exe, inside the configuration folder, so that they wouldn't blap each other. At the same time, CVI needed to continue honoring the Target SettingsApplication file setting, and so it copies the .exe to the location specified in the target settings after building it in configuration folder

Hi All,I'm trying to automate a few builds using some scripting. Each executable I'm compiling consecutively uses the same VI's with different "compile options" enabled. (They're configured with various components enabled and disabled.) So here's my question: Do I have to save the "dirty" VI's on disk between compiling executables, or will App Builder use the VI's as-is from within memory? Based on results I've observed, I'm guessing that the latter is true, but I want to be absolutely sure because I'm building releases.By the way, in this instance I'm using LabVIEW 8.6.1 for Windows. Thanks,Jim

DB:2.90:App Builder And Saving Vi's xk

    Hi George,

Thanks for getting back to me. So this is how I'm implementing my "compile options" (they're not really compile options in the true sense): I use project-scoped conditional disable symbols to enable or disable certain parts of the code. Depending on the target or use of the executable I'm building, I programatically change those symbols. I then proceed to build that particular executable. Each release has three or four executables and installers, so it's a time consuming prospect - one where automation makes a lot of sense to me.

Based on what you said, it sounds like what I'm doing will work. There didn't seem to be an easy way to save all dirty project items, so I was hoping to avoid the effort.

Does it still sound like this will work as intended?

    Thanks very much,

    Jim

So, has anyone {used | attempted to use} TowerJ in conjunction with WLS?If
    so, what were your results?

Briefly, TowerJ (www.towerj.com) is supposed to allow "post-compiling Java
    bytecode into highly optimized
native executables that can be dynamically updated. TowerJ preserves the
    platform independent and flexible
nature of Java while significantly improving execution performance and
    reducing CPU and memory consumption."
At least, according to their web site, that's the case. On the web site,it
says the work with WLS 4.5.1 on
several platforms. If no one posts anything, I'll post results of our
benchmarking against our current HP JVM.

    Hi,

There are no 64 bit static "system" libraries supplied with Solaris 7.
So there is no question of linking them with the executable.

You may create your own 64 bit static library and link with the executable.

When I am calling a process in C# 2008, some executables are located and executed instead of the executable I am tyring to run.
Thus these old executables must still exist on my workstation since those paths look familar to me.
Due to this fact, I have the following querstions to ask:
    1. What would cause these executables to still exist? In the application I am working on, what do I need to do to make certain more executables are not created?
    2. How do I locate the existing executables that are on my workstation?
    3. How do I remove (delete) these executables from running?

DB:2.87:C# Executable Running On My Workstation cf

Maybe I'm missing the whole point, but couldn't you just do a full disk search to find all the relevant .exe's you suspect are there? That obviously would address 2 and 3.
In reference to 1), are you generating the executables from within VS2008, or is what you're building in 2008 just referencing other separate execs?
Are there any post-build scripts being run, or other automated build system brac-a-brak intervening at any point?
It's hard to even parse out the exact problem though since it's very ambiguous the circumstances you are describing.
Can you clarify exactly what's being build in VS2008, what the intended output is and how that output is interacting with paths and/or other executables on your system?

I would be interested in using scripting languages such as Python and R on the MIC platform. In order to do that I would need to compile binaries for the MIC architecture. I believe the easiest path would be to compile  from source using MPSS/gcc. However from my understanding Intel recommends not to use MPSS in order to build "application software" because vector instructions are not supported by the MIC port of gcc. My question is how much of an impact would compiling with gcc would have on building executables of a scripting language such as Python or R?

Would someone direct me to some reference material on howCOMMON and BLOCK DATAare handled differentlywhen compiling consol applications executablesversusstaticlibrary for the same FORTRAN routine.

Here is a brief description of my challenge: I have a FORTRAN program that compiles and runs correctly when I compile as a consol application executable. Now I need to make this program a library, I changed the PROGRAM XYZ to SUBROUTINE XYZ and added the following compiler directive "!DEC$ ATTRIBUTES DLLEXPORT :: XYZ". The library compiles and runs, but the outputis not correct. Using WRITE statements in both the consol application and libraryversions we traced it down to variables in COMMON blocks that were not the expected values in the library.

    Thanks!

DB:2.86:Consol App Executables Vs. Libs z3

When you are building an application which compiles the source of the BLOCK DATA, Visual Studio makes sure that the object file for the BLOCK DATA is included in the link. When you have a BLOCK DATA in a library, the linker doesn't know to pull it out unless something references it. You are supposed to use EXTERNAL for this.

For example, if the BLOCK DATA is named MYBLOCK, add:

    EXTERNAL MYBLOCK

to something in the code that needs the COMMON.

I'm a bit confused about your mention of DLLEXPORT - are you building a DLL? If so, and if you expect the COMMON to be shared between the DLL and the console program, you have more work to do - mainly, add a:

    !DEC$ ATTRIBUTES DLLEXPORT :: /commonname/

directive for the COMMON in the BLOCK DATA subprogram and add a

    !DEC$ ATTRIBUTES DLLIMPORT :: /commonname/

in any source that references the COMMON.

If you are building a static library, you don't need DLLEXPORT/DLLIMPORT.

Hi, today we migrated our Application Server to 10.1.2.0.2 and totally unexpected (it was not mentioned in the upgrade guide of 400 pages...) we had to recompile all 9.0.4-executables
So we installed Developer Suite 10.1.2.0.2 and recompiled all libraries, forms and menus. There were no errors reported, so everything should be valid.
Now we can run the forms again - that is, they start without problems - but on some forms (so not all), after doing Run Query, we immediately get ORA-1403, followed by ORA-6508.
Could this perhaps be caused by "something" in the Headstart-libraries that can not be used in 10.1.2?
A quick respons would be perfect, because many users have problems now.

I'm not exactly what to even call this question.

Right now, I have an application for uploading files to a special server on a network. So people can access this program on any PC on the network, I'll be putting the files on the server and then putting shortcuts to the executables. However, I'm not totally sure what this might require.

Do I need to compile the files on the server? If not, should I? Also, since a JFileChooser is being used, how can I ensure that the starting directory is on the user's PC and not allow them access to the server? And finally, how would I specify that the files are being transferred to the server (just use the path to the server or is there another way)?

    Thanks folks.

    DB:2.86:Compiling On A Server? z9

It appears that all of these issues are controlled by the application's code. I suggest that you use it, see what it does, and then if there are problems, post a specific question regarding a single issue. Provide formatted code for a small test case that illustrates the condition, and an explanation of what your expectations were and the actual results.

    DB:2.83:Problem Compiling C Code 8k

Re-installing did the trick, but only after I combed thru the system for all
gcc related files (thanx to spotlight). Otherwise either it does not want to
install or the installation is incomplete (that's what happened last time I think)

    DB:2.83:Thread: Filtering Out Executables m9

    Hi,

Is it possible to filter out downloading of executable files from the

    internet in BM35?

    Thanks!

    DB:2.83:Thread: Filtering Out Executables m9

Thanks a lot for the info. I will try it.

Yes, I have done it. In Craig\'s book A Beginner\'s Guide to

    BorderManager

3.x, in the section about Access Rules, it shows you how to create an

access rule denying specified files http://*.*/*.exe. I\'ve done it and

    it

works pretty good. Just be sure you are placing this access rule in the

proper order so that you don\'t block admin from downloading.

    DB:2.83:Compiling Forms6i (Patch8) (9ias 1.0.2.2.0) On Linux (Redhat 7.1) 9d

I've successfully installed 9ias 1.0.2.2.0 on Redhat 7.1 and applied forms patch 8 but having trouble compiling forms executables. I had to install LessTif Motif libraries, but getting an error during compile. . . 'undefined symbols in libuimotif60.so'.

Has anyone tried to compile and run Forms on Redhat 7.1 Intel? Any help and/or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Haven't been able to find any documentation or errata specific to Forms compilation under Linux yet. . . (Have successfully installed 8.1.7 as well and configured servlets and SQLJ, etc. as well as Apache. . . .Just problems with Forms now).

    Thanks in advance. . .

I had the same problem I did this and it fixed it. I did not down grade my motif.

Create the following symbolic links in the /usr/X11R6/lib directory:

    ln -s libXmu.a libXm.a
    ln -s libXm.so.2.1 libXm.so
    ln -s libXt.so.6.0 libXt.so.

    Hope it helps,

    DB:2.83:Geany - Automatically Link Libraries For C Compilation k1

    Hi

I am learning C and have recently switched from using Code::Blocks to using Geany as an IDE. One thing that I have come to miss is the automatic linking of libraries when compiling.

Say, I write a program that uses the math.h header. Code::blocks detects that and automatically links in the appropriate math library when compiling. In Geany however, I need to manually put in the -lm flag in the build command, and when I am not using the math library, I need to manually take it out (otherwise the executables are bigger than necessary).

Does anyone know a way that I can tell Geany to automatically link in the appropriate libraries?

    Thanks

Dont worry about extra libs that you dont use - they dont make the executable bigger. The linker only pulls in routines that you actually use from libraries you link against. The only thing would be a probably undetectable extra amount of time it would take to search it.

Personally, I dont like the idea of too much hand holding. You should know what libraries you need and add them yourself, says my internal curmudgeon programmer.
