    DB:3.57:Jws Error When I Create A Viewlink xk

    --

    hi everybody,

    I'm designing an application using Business Components : I want
    to have a InfoBus-based Frame with a master/detail.

    Table1 ---(1,n)--- Table2 ---(n,1)--- Table3

    The snag is that when i create a ViewLink for my View Objects
    (Table2View and Table3View), after saving/exiting/re-opening my
    workspace, I get an "load error" when i try to access any file in
    my current package.

    the information MessageBox is something like:

    Load error.
    Project : C:\...mypath\myproject.jpr
    Exception : oracle.jbo.dt.objects.jboException

    Load error.
    Project : C:\...mypath\myproject.jpr
    Object : mypackage
    Exception : java.lang.ClassCastException

    what the hell it means???? i got stuck in for days!!!

    any help would be really appreciated..

    Francois, I have not seen this before.
    Are you sure that the BC4J application and Java client are
    in the same project?

    Also, try to do the following:
    Open another workspace (File | New Workspace)
    Create an empty project (File | New Empty Project )
    Save it all ( File | Save All ) ...(untitled1.jws)
    Exit JDeveloper.

    Launch JDeveloper again so that it opens up the empty Work space
    Now re-open your old work space ( File | Reopen )
    If it still crashes, try to minimize the reporduce case
    (less files) - Create a Zip file containing the workspace
    and the project and files which cause the problem and
    email it to jdevbeta@us.orcle.com

    Thanks,

    DB:3.33:Create Viewlink / Remove Viewlink Dinamically c7

    Problems consistently come up in JDeveloper when:
    .
    In our Application Module Implementation we dinamically create a ViewLink (using createViewLink) between to existing ViewObjects and using a defined ViewLink. This works OK.
    .
    After using the views we do a findViewLink and then call a it's remove method to delete the VL between the two VOs.
    .
    We now set a ViewLink between one of the original VOs and some other VO which also exists.

    Error: executeQuery throws an null pointer exception when executed over the detail VO.

    Has someone been able to create and delete ViewLinks dinamically? Using which methods? any suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks
    Gonzalo

    DB:3.33:Create Viewlink / Remove Viewlink Dinamically c7

    Yes, we do. No problems here using 9.0.3.3.

    We use createViewLink( String, String, ViewObject, ViewObject ), findViewLink( String ) and remove(), probably just like you.

    Is this stacktrace correct? Looks fishy to me. Where does the NPE come from? ViewRowSetImpl or ViewRowSetIteratorImpl?

    Can you post some code?

    DB:3.02:Null Pointer Exception Using Jh Under Java Web Start 1a

    Sorry for this duplicate posting but I also posted this issue on the Java Web Start thread. However, I thought that a JH guru may be able to shed more light than a JWS guru.

    The problem is at http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=38thread=256946

    For some background on JWS. JWS does have some issues regarding classpath. The classpath used by the original class loader that loads one's JWS application points to the jar files that you provide. The system classloader classpath points to the primary JRE on your machine. Under JWS you need to create code to explicitly use the classloader that loaded your application. Otherwise applications under JWS sometimes start using the system classloader and you will no longer be able to find your application resources in your application jar file.

    I guess my question is whether in creating a help broker, the javahelp classes somehow use the system classloader when you say "hb = new DefaultHelpBroker(hs);"

    DB:3.02:Null Pointer Exception Using Jh Under Java Web Start 1a

    Because it is more an issue of Webstart than JH see that forum for the answer

    DB:2.97:Viewlink Accessors Generating Faulty Sql fp

    It seems that ViewLink Accessors use a back-to-front WHERE clause when trying to accesses the linked view.

    ViewSource has attribute SourcePK used to link to ViewDest.DestFK representing a foreign-key 1-many relationship.

    We expose the accessor for the Source - getViewSource() - which is added to ViewDestRowImpl.java. We don't expose any accessor for the Dest.

    Examining the ViewLink SQL shows:
    Source attributes: EntitySource.SourcePK
    Where: ? = EntityDest.DestFK
    Query clause: EntitySource.SourcePK = EntityDest.DestFK

    When we call getViewSource() faulty SQL causes an exception:

    oracle.jbo.SQLStmtException: JBO-27122: SQL error during statement preparation. Statement:
    SELECT EntitySource.SourcePK, EntitySource.SourceDataAtt WHERE (? = EntityDest.DestFK)

    This seems like the WHERE clause for the reverse accessor (ie getViewDest() to get the DEST rows for a particular SOURCE row).

    EntityDest is not in ViewSource at all.

    Is this a bug?
    Should I be defining a reverse-link (Source and Dest reversed)? - I thought ViewLinks were bi-directional else why allow the accessor to be exposed?

    Tony.

    DB:2.97:Viewlink Accessors Generating Faulty Sql fp

    This seems to be the same problem as
    View links

    I've managed to get things working by
    (a) setting both views' bind types to oracle rather than '?'. [Less than ideal, because I want to run against non-Oracle database. I'll cross that bridge later, I guess...]
    (b) removing the "Where" clause from the ViewLink's XML file (as specified in other thread). It will come back if you edit anything...
    (c) I may also have had to delete my classes directories to ensure everything was recompiled from scratch. [I've got one project dependent upon another and there's a cross-compilation bug that might have caused problems.]

    BTW: I'm on 9.0.3.1035.

    There's definitely a bug or two wrapped up in here - hopefully they have been or are being fixed.

    Something else that concerns me that I haven't had time to validate yet: is the view link accessor giving me a row from the correct view? I'm wondering whether there's a problem because I wouldn't have expected any SQL to be run when I use the (e.g.) getMasterView1 accessor; the instance of the master view linked to the detail row from which I'm calling the accessor has already been executed, so the row ought to be in the cache.
    My master-instance isn't called MasterView1 though; is it possible that an instance called MasterView1 is being executed?
    I guess I'll look into it....

    Hope that's useful to someone,
    Mike.

    DB:2.94:Re: Internal Error: Entity.Afterrollback.Status_Dead -- What Does This Mean? j7

    The way I use it is simply having two master view objects and one intersection view object connected via two view links to the two master view objects. When I have in both master view objects the correct current row selected and I create a row on the intersection view objects this works fine. There is no special logic in the entity objects.

    Here comes an overview over all BC4J-Objects involved in a many-to-may association:

    - Ma1Entity // Entity for Master 1
    - Ma2Entity // Entity for Master 2
    - InterEntity // Entity for Intersection Table
    - Ma1InterFkAssoc // composite association from Master1 to Intersection. Used for creation
    - Ma2InterFkAssoc // composite association from Master2 to Intersection. Used for creation
    - Ma1InterMa2Assoc // many to many association from Master1 to Master2 via Intersection. Used for queries.
    - Ma1View // View for Master 1
    - Ma2View // View for Master 2
    - InterView // View for Intersection
    - Ma1InterVL // Viewlink, used for creation
    - Ma2InterVL // Viewlink, used for creation
    - Ma1InterMa2VL // Viewlink, used for queriesQuestion:
    Is it possible to disable a composite association (for example in "Ma1InterFkAssoc" and "Ma2InterFkAssoc") but leaving the cascading delete constraint in the database ? If yes, this might help to get around the issues of double composition, but still having the database "housekeeping" your association.

    I'd like to create an installer disk to let customers install our JWS application without having to download all 15MB of .jar files. javaws will import .jar files successfully, but our application is delivered online via pack200 gzip'd archives; when I try to run our application, JWS goes out and fetches the pack200'd archives instead of using the ones it already has.

    Is there a way to disable this behavior in the JWS client, or get javaws to accept pack200'd archives during the import process?

    thanks for any help.

    DB:2.93:Javaws -Import With Pack200'D Archives x7

    1) Check file dates (both on CD and on web-server) and IF-MODIFIED-SINCE headers web-server is receiving (never the less the LastModified you're sending back).
    2) Check codebase in the imported jnlp is exactly the same you get downloading JNLP (URLs rule cache). It happened to me I forgot port (being standard 80) on imported jnlp but left it (for test-use) on downloaded jnlp, it seemed to be a problem; however I got it worked around with the next point:
    3) You can use versions (no more date comparing and server request, just version comparing on client-side).
    4) In any case, if you give users a CD you can put there a script to run the application off-line. I know it makes no sense using Java Web Start without the update mechanism, but if you have other connections from client to server you can still manage updates 'manually' with javax.jnlp.DownloadService, or just send users a mail asking then to do an on-line run to get updates.

    In your other post you say it's used on many server and this makes you want people to download it from different servers/URL; couldn't they all download it from the same server having the usage/destination server being a parameter (passed as a property in the jnlp)?

    unfortunately the 1.0.1_0x versions of java web start put the cache in the installation directory by default.
    On a 'locked down" system this may mean the user dosn't have permission to write to the cache.
    To fix this you need to manually edit the javaws.cfg file to add the line:
    javaws.cfg.cache.dir=XXXX/cache
    where XXX is somewhere the user can write to.

    DB:2.86:Problem Exposing Accessor Methods On View Object (Viewrowimpl.Java) p1

    JDeveloper 9.03

    I have a view link, ViewLinkSourceDest, that links two view objects Source and Destination. Each view object has its respective ViewRowImpl.java file created.

    I have selected "Generate Accessor in View Object" in View link Properties of the View Link Wizard for both source and destination view objects.

    The correct Accessor methods are available in both the source and destination ViewRowImpl files.

    When I access the Source accessor method from the DestinationViewRowImpl object I receive the following error:
    ORA-00904: invalid column name
    It is also is displaying the Source view object's SQL statement with the (:1 = Destination.ID) where clause.

    The error is occurring when trying to retrieve the view object using this type of method call:
    Row r = this.getSourceView();

    After further investigation I have found an example set of view objects in which the error does not occur. The difference was in the ViewLink.xml file.

    The ViewLink.xml file that accesses the Accessor with the error begins like this:
    ViewLink
    Name="ViewLink"
    Where=":1 = Destination._ID"

    The ViewLink.xml file that accesses the Accessor with no error begins like this:

    ViewLink
    Name="ViewLink"
    EntityAssociation ="SourceDestAssociation"

    suggesting that the use of an association would resolve this problem.

    I was not able to create a View link based on an association that would generate a ViewLink.xml file that ressemble the successful file above. I could however manually add the correct entry to the xml file that caused the error and sucessfully access the Accessor method in the source object. This is not the final answer because the IDE will regenerate the ViewLink.xml file to its original state even if created with the appropriate Association.

    Is this a bug?
    Is the way the ViewLink.xml file created different in JDev 9.03 than in 9.02
    Is there something I am missing that is causing the ViewLink.xml file to generate incorrectly?

    Any suggestions would be helpful.

    Rob

    DB:2.86:Problem Exposing Accessor Methods On View Object (Viewrowimpl.Java) p1

    Steps to recreate:

    1 Create SomeSuperEntityImpl.java extended by SourceEntityImpl.java and DestinationEntityImpl.java entity objects.
    2 Create SourceView and DestinationView objects
    3 Create SourceDestinationAssociation linking the entity object Source PK to Destination FK
    4 Create SourceDestinationView linking Source and Destination view using the SourceDestinationAssociation

    View the SourceDestinationView.xml file and you will see that the viewlink has Where=":1 = source.src_id"

    This is the scenario that causes the initial problem with the Accessor Methods.

    If the SomeSuperEntityImpl.java is removed as the super class and the same procedure is followed you will get the desired 'EntityAssociation = "package.SourceDestinationAssociation"' in the SourceDestinationView.xml file .

    Hope this is a little clearer.

    I have a ViewLink. The source viewobject attribute is a DBSequence and the destination viewobject attribute is a Number.

    Now, as i have experienced, when i create a new row for the destination viewobject, ADF throws the exception bundles similar to these:

    JBO-29000 Unexpected Exception
    JBO-25017 RowCreateException
    Oracle.jbo.domain.NumberUpon inspection what generates this message is that the source and destination attributes are incompatible, DBSequence-Number.

    Now, is there anyway I can go around this error?

    One way i thought of was to just change the destination attribute to DBSequence of the EntityObject, but I have already lots of ViewObjects depending on it. So the wizard would not allow me to change the attributes from Number-DBSequence just like that.

    DB:2.84:Incompatible Viewlink Source And Destinati Viewobject Attributes sk

    Ok I noticed that this error occurs when my source viewobject is a read-only viewobject, from an Sql statement, not based on entity objects.
    This happens when I use the following code:

    //viewLink attributes = source.Id (DBSequence primary key) ; = dest.Id(Number, foreign key)

    ViewLink viewLink = getTheViewLink();
    ViewObject source = viewLink.getSource();
    ViewObject dest = viewLink.getDestination();
    ...

    Row newRow = dest.createRow(); //exception thrown here.

    DB:2.83:Critical: Remove View Link Problem After Removing Transient Attributes ap

    hi,

    I tried to synchronize an entity object after altering the database table. I removed a column attribute which was previously a foreign key.

    After that I tried to remove the transient attribute from the entity and view objects.

    When I tried to remove the viewlink , it gives me a few dependencies. I removed the accessor methods in the application module implementation class.

    I cannot edit the application module XML file. I have to remove the viewlink , because the attribute is no more.

    I'm getting the following errors, Pleas let me know how to remove the references to view link instances from application module.

    Error: reo.model.VacoccstFkLink: The view link end(s) do not specify an attribute.

    Error: reo.model.VacoccstFkAssoc: The association end(s) do not specify an attribute.

    Please help..its very very CRITICAL...

    Thanks a lot.

    DB:2.83:Critical: Remove View Link Problem After Removing Transient Attributes ap

    My guess would be that something went wrong during design-time and you ended up with 2 entries for the entity association/entity assoc accessor attribute.

    Glad that it's working now.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    Can we create a Table within Table in OA Page without using a view link. Need a Master Detail records to be displayed but I can't use a ViewLink. Is it possible to

    using table in table without ViewLink

    Thanks

    DB:2.83:How To Create Table In A Table Without A Viewlink For Master/Detail pj

    Hi,

    I created a Table then in the table I created a detail in which I created another table I created a transient view attribute i.e. DetailFlag that I set to my outer table. When I run the page it does show me the Master records and showhide link but when I click on the show it throws an error saying:

    oracle.apps.fnd.framework.OAException: oracle.jbo.NoDefException: JBO-25002: Definition of type Attribute not found

    Even though all the items in Detail table are attached to VO attributes of DetailVO

    As I have a different MasterVO query with some bind variables and the DetailsVO query is different with some bind variables. Now how do I capture when a user clicks on Show and at that time wants to get some values from a selected master row and pass them to my DetailVO Query so the detail data for that selected master row shows. How do I get handle to the selected Row Data so to get the some values that need to be passed to the DetailVO.
    I tried following the guide but am not able to have it functioning.

    Here is what I have in my controller's processRequest method

    OAApplicationModule am = pageContext.getApplicationModule(webBean);
    System.out.println("******* 1");
    am.invokeMethod("initializeTables");

    OATableBean table =
    (OATableBean)webBean.findChildRecursive("OuterTable");

    if (table == null)
    {
    MessageToken[] tokens = { new MessageToken("OBJECT_NAME", "OuterTable") };
    throw new OAException("AK", "FWK_TBX_OBJECT_NOT_FOUND", tokens);
    }

    table.queryData(pageContext, true);
    System.out.println("******* 2");Any help is appreciated.

    DB:2.83:Jws And Xml Deserialization 77

    I am reposting this old message and hoping someone
    can help me.

    Hi folks,

    I have an application which works fine without being
    launched from JWS, but when I tried to use JWS to
    open it, it somehow failed a critical deserialization
    procedure in my program. This happens inside a thread:

    ...
    public void run(){
    ...
    XMLDecoder decoder=new XMLDecoder(...);
    ...
    Something sth=(Something)decoder.readObject();
    ...
    /*
    do something with "sth" here
    */
    ...
    ...

    Everthing is fine if I run this without JWS. But
    when I run this with JWS, "sth" somehow turns out
    to be null, which means that the deserialization
    code has failed.

    I am just wondering what the JWS designers have
    done with an application the JWS launches. Why can't
    an application registered with the JWS control panel
    be launched just in the same way that a JAR file is
    executed by javaw following a double-click?

    I would appreciate if anyone can help me. Thanks!!!

    DB:2.83:Jws And Xml Deserialization 77

    The problem was finally identified. It boils down to the problem
    of class loader. On Windows platform, the initial class loader
    is JNLP launcher. In a later time in the main thread, the
    context class loader somehow switches to the default Sun launcher.
    Because all the resources have been loaded with the initial JNLP
    loader, the classForName method in the bean deserialization code,
    which now uses the default Sun launcher, fails in finding the
    classes. The exception is not thrown unless an ExceptionListener
    is specified with the XMLDecoder at construction time (that is
    why the exception cannot propogate to our sight).

    This is obviously a bug of XMLDecoder on Windows (It does not,
    however, occur on Mac OS X, probably because of its different
    implementation).

    The walkaround is to set the original JNLP loader back by using
    Thread.currentThread().setContextClassLoader(ClassLoader cl)
    at the end of the main thread.

    Perhaps a bug report should be submitted, if this has never
    been found before.

    I have a A_ViewObject which the primary key is IDA (attribute type BigDecimal) containing only one A_EntityObject. Another B_C_ViewObject which
    has two EntityObject into the ViewObject ( B_EntityObject and C_EntityObject and both are persistent). The problem occurs when trying to create a ViewLink (Master/Detail) between the the A_ViewObject (Source) and B_C_ViewObject (Destination).
    It seems that the framework try to put the A_ViewObject.IDA on both entities in the other View, in the same position (index).

    A_EntityObject fields:
    1 IDA
    2 attribute01
    3 attribute02
    _____________________________________________
    B_EntityObject fields:
    1 IDB
    2 attribute01
    3 attribute02
    4 IDA (FK from A_EntityObject)
    _____________________________________________
    C_EntityObject fields:
    1 IDC
    2 attribute01
    3 attribute02
    4 attribute03

    When I create an instance of the B_C_ViewObjetc from the ViewLink, the frameworks thy to do the following:

    B_EntityObject.IDA = A_EntityObject.IDA
    (the correct assignment)

    and

    C_EntityObject.attribute03 = A_EntityObject.IDA
    (the wrong assignment. It occurs always in the same position (4 in this case), where the right assignent happens). Its incorrect 'cause nothing have to be assigned in the C_EntityObject.attribute03.
    There are two other errors possibilities:

    1- If the attribute type in the corresponding index on the C_EntityObject, doesn't match with the attribute type in the B_EntityObject, it raises a "CLASSCASTEXCEPTION" error.
    2- If there is no attribute in the same position on the C_EntityObject, it raises an "INDEXOUTOFBOUNDSEXCEPTION".

    How can I avoid this problem?? The attribute in the C_EntityObject should never be assigned!!

    DB:2.82:Viewlink Panic xk

    Adriano,

    1. Which version of JDeveloper are you using?
    2. When you create viewobject B_C_ViewObject, did you select all attributes of entities B_EntityObject and C_EntityObject? What was the join codition (where clause)?
    3. When you create viewlink between A_ViewObject and B_C_ViewObject, which attribute on A_ViewObject did you select and which attribute on B_C_ViewObject you select?

    Thanks,

    Hi All,

    When an application is deployed using JWS it will copy the file in to a directry with the host name in the cache. For ex if i deployed an application from x.y.z.a then JWS will create a directory named DX.Y.Z.A and cache all the jars in that location. Let us take i have the same application on to differetn web servers A.B.C.D and V.X.Y.Z and user has deployed the application from both the sites so JWS will create different directories and cache the same set of jar files twice to avoid it is it possible to configure the JWS to cache the jars files in to a single common director for the same application.

    Durga

    DB:2.78:Downloading The Jars From Different Web Server To The Same Location 19

    Unfortunatly based on my reading it looks like the security and storage model of JWS is tied to the host delivering the code. Personally I can't really argue against that logic as that's the same security model employed by JavaScript and to manage cookies in browsers. You can share jar files and configuration info between applications, but they both have to be based on a common URL. Example:
    x.y.z.app1
    x.y.q.app2

    Anything in package x.y and any configuration settings stored in that package will be visible to both applications.

    The only solution I can really see to your problem is perhaps to host both applications on a third server? You could still host the jnlp files on the original server, but make sure to set the jnlp elements codebase attribute to the third server, and the href attribute to be the location of the particular jnlp file.
    Example:

    V.X.Y.Z.jnlp
    jnlp
    spec="1.5+"
    codebase="J.K.L.M"
    href="V.X.Y.Z.jnlp"

    BUILD FAILED (total time: 4 seconds)I googled "jarsigner returned: 1" and found some non-helpful material on the subject, which said that this was a NetBeans bug that happens on JNLP launch when an English-locale tries to sign a JAR file, but I usually have a difficult time pointing the finger and shouting "bug" because it's usually user error not dev error... but who knows in this case..

    So, I decided to uncheck "self-signed", and the JWS splash came up, but now JWS is looking for "file:// " to run. Huh?? _ Arg. I'm new to JWS so I'm not sure what's causing it to do this. the codebase preview path set in NetBeans looks correct (give exception to the forward-slashes in a Windows environment)... So I'm stumped.

    My app uses System resources to store data (user-input gets saved between instances in a program-created file in the Application Data system resource) and JDBC database connectivity protocols (it is a database reporting tool similar to crystal reports). So, if I'm reading the JWS documentation correctly, I'm pretty sure it needs to be self-signed (ie, able to access local files and network resources).

    Anyone know what I need to do? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Woot, found it. Finally. This thread was the key: http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5399468

    JFreeChart uses a duplicate library jar file (gnujaxp.jar) that was colliding with one of the auto-provided JNLP jar files of the same name (and contents, supposedly).

    Hi.

    Is it possible to create a view link between a view object created with rows populated at design time (static list) and a view object based on an entity ?

    Inside an exposed function on the AppModule(), I got hold of the ViewLink and get the DetailViewObject and get the currentRow. However, DetailViewObject.getCurrentRow() returns null. From my understanding, the viewLinks points to the curentrows of the source and destination VO's automatically right? So im expecting that the DetailViewObejct.getCurrentRow() will return the correct row.

    Note however that when I test this using the AppModule tester, The Master and Detail ViewObects and rows are displayed correctly.

    public void someFunctionInAppModule() {

    ViewLink link = getMasterDetailLink1();
    MasterViewObject = link.getSource();
    DetailViewObject = link.getDestination();

    Row row = DetailViewObject.getCurrentRow() //returns null

    row = DeteilViewObject.first() //will return the row that i need as a workaround

    }

    DB:2.76:Viewlink Source Destination Synchronization jz

    I see. Thats why it was not pointing to the current row because i didnt have any bindings defined for that viewRow. There were no defined VO's and iterators in any pageDefinitions of my jsp pages. Thats what you mean by no binding right?

    tnx very much

    Hi, I'm new to BEA and must be making a very simple mistake but can not find the answer.

    I want to create the equivalent of a stock quote service where a client requests updates be sent back for a symbol. At some point in the future the client will tell the service it no longer wants the updates.

    I've registered my jws class as an event listener to the legacy stock trading program. The jws file is notified when there is an update in the price but trying to send that back through the callback routine gets the following error:

    Im seeing some weird results when using a viewLink and setting the AM releasemode to statefull. I use a jsp page that list the source viewLink in a table with an UrlEvent to a jsp page contains the viewLink destination (master/details). When you select a link the correct data for the source is displayed but the destination is not correct. If I change the releasemode to stateless it works, sort of. The first time you try to view the details page no data for the destination appears. If you refresh the page it works.

    Does anyone know why the viewLink destination is not displaying the correct records when the releasemode is set to statefull. It always displays the records from the first record in the source viewLink. By setting the releasemode to stateless causes other problems.

    Hi,

    This is a quite simple question I suppose, but I can't figure out the solution.

    When starting my application using Java Web Start 1.0.1_02 the JWS application handler does not show up. JWS does only show a splash picture, then it disappear after 10-15 seconds. No error is written in the Java console window.

    No errors occurred when installing JWS and it seems to be correctly installed, and JRE 1.3 is installed. I have successfully used my JNLP file earlier when I had JWS installed. After re-installation JWS does not work.

    What is the error?

    DB:2.74:Java Web Start Does Not Start a8

    The two most likely problems are java version in config files, and proxy settings in config files.
    can you run javaws with no args and get up the application manager ?
    if yes - look at settings in the preference panel of appman.
    if no - look at javaws.cfg manually (in your users home directory/.javaws)
    make sure the path to javaws.cfg.jre.0.path="xxx" points to a working javaws executable.
    make sure the proxy settings: javaws.cfg.proxy.host and port are ok,

    If I make a viewlink based on an association and I want to delete everything it still says that the viewlink exists on the deletion of a viewlink. You have to restart jdev to fix it.

    If you have a viewlink / accessors and rowimpl of viewobject sometimes jdev doesn't do it right and you get nullpointer exceptions

    I tried the following in the JavaOne TP build:

    After creating default EO, VO, AM from the DEPT and EMP tables, I removed the view-linked VO instance in the AM data model, then deleted the view link between DeptView and EmpView.

    This worked without problems. What steps should I follow to reproduce the problem?

    DB:2.73:Feature Request: Create Viewlink From Association 7s

    Why is it, I can right click on an Entity and choose "Create Default View" to quickly generate a view, and can't do something similar for an Association to create a viewlink? You can create a viewlink from an UML diagram, so it isn't impossible to automatically generate the viewlink. Hopefully the next version of JDeveloper contains an option for this in the contextmenu...

    DB:2.73:Feature Request: Create Viewlink From Association 7s

    Peter,

    We have talked about adding a context menu item to create a default view link based on an association. The reason we've never done it is that the feature would only work under certain conditions. Taking the standard dept-emp association as an example, your package would have to contain exactly one view object with an attribute mapped to Dept.deptno, and exactly one view object with an attribute mapped to Emp.deptno. If there were multiple view objects of each type, or view objects containing both attributes, then you could end up generating a view link for each possible combination, which is probably not what you want. If your association is based on multiple attributes, or multiple instances of the same attribute, the situation gets more complicated.

    At the moment you have the ability to create a view link based on an existing association using the view link wizard. You create a new view link, select the source and destination view objects, then select the underlying entity association. It's a few more steps but it does the job.

    Thanks
    Blaise

    DB:2.73:Javawebstart And The Classpath zc

    I am a newbie in java and I have a problem to run an application using javawebstart 1.2.

    This application is a rich client (Swing) calling EJB's (in a weblogic server). This rich client (named myClient.jar) uses weblogic's classes (ex.: weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory)

    The weblogic.jar is installed on each client PC and the CLASSPATH is set to something like : C:\...\lib\weblogic.jar

    If I put myClient.jar on a client PC, it runs fine when I type the following command :
    java -classpath "%CLASSPATH%;C:\...\lib\myClient.jar" com.company.MyMainClass

    But when I start myClient by using JWS, I have an error, because JWS does not find the weblogic.jar :
    - javax.naming.NoInitialContextException: Cannot instantiate class: weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory [Root exception is java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory]

    I found that it was not possible the change the CLASSPATH at runtime...
    So, how is it possible to tell JWS where is the weblogic.jar or which Classpath it must use ?

    On another side, I have also tried to add weblogic.jar into my JNLP file, but JWS only download the first jar ?

    resources
    j2se version="1.4"/
    jar href="lib/weblogic.jar"/
    jar href="lib/myClient.jar"/
    /resources

    If I put myClient.jar above, JWS download it and, as during my previous try it has downloaded weblogic.jar, myClient starts ! If I clean the JWS cache, then weblogic.jar in not available anymore and JWS does not download it. Only myClient is downloaded and crashed when it starts...

    Why JWS does not download the two jar's ?! It should, no ? Otherwise, what must I do ?

    Notice that I don't want to put weblogic classes into myClient.jar because it's a 36MB jar... I don't want that such a file be downloaded each time myClient changes.

    Thank you in advance for your help.

    Valery.

    DB:2.73:Javawebstart And The Classpath zc

    OK, I found the solution !

    It is possible to download several jar (and it's maybe what I must do I think, because I didn't find a way to set a ClassPath for JWS ???)

    I have to use the property main="true" for myClient.jar, like this :

    resources
    j2se version="1.4"/
    jar href="lib/weblogic.jar"/
    jar href="lib/myClient.jar" main="true"/
    /resources

    Sorry for this stupid question... it was clearly indicated by these three lines in the JWS specifications :

    "The jar element has an main attribute (as shown above) that is used to indicate which JAR file contains the main class of the application/Applet (or Installer for an extension). There must be at most one jar element in a JNLP file that is specified as main. If no jar element is specified as main, then the first jar element will be considered the main JAR file."

    DB:2.73:Jws, Jcs Performance Issue ak

    Hi All,

    We built a big application using JPF, JCS, JCX and JWS. (WLW 8.1 SP4)
    There are 284 JPF, 384 JCS, 320 JCX and 1 JWS.

    The only JWS is acting a Batch Job (Long-time processing Job) Delegator. i.e. delegate to specified JCS based on the job id. External clients will call the JWS with a job id at the scheduled time. So on its top, JWS has to import all JCS using @common:control annotation (100+).

    Client--JWS---JCS--JCX

    I found that it takes 1.5 hour for first WS (web service) call to complete, but the second and following WS calls are very fast. (All the WS calls are the identical)

    I checked the access.log, it takes a long time to see the JWS file appears in this log after client initializes the WS call. In JVM, Full GC (Garbage Collection) acts during the period.

    I found that the performance got dramatically improved where I remove some JCS controls from the JWS. i.e. less @common:control annotation on the top.

    Initially, I thought that it could be due to JCS instances have to be created when JWS is loaded. But from what I know from Vimala, "Controls are created and initialized using lazy instantiation", I am a bit confused why importing more JCS into JWS affects overall performance.

    Sorry for the lengthy post, any suggestions on how to improve the performance are welcomed. :-)

    Thanks and Regards

    I'm trying to run an existing application from JWS. When ran from JWS, the application stops immediately. I don't even get an error message.

    I forced JWS to display a java console, but the java console also close when the application hangs...

    Is there a way to activate verbose mode when running the app through JWS ???

    Attribute java-vm-args="-verbose" doesn't work. :( Also, the console close too fast for me to be able to read the last information displayed... How can I get more traces ??? I'm using the latest version of JWS...

    Thank you in advance.

    DB:2.73:Jws: How To Get Error Details kd

    you can also get the verbose output from the VM by passing that vm arg:
    setenv JAVAWS_MV_ARGS -verbose
    but you will need to run from command line with a local copy of the jnlp file (not the url) as the arg:
    javaws local-jnlp-file

    DB:2.72:Referential Integrity &Amp; Bc4j Createrow ma

    Hi,

    Okay, so I am aware that when I'm trying to add a new row to a table which has a foreign key to another table, I have to do something like this is order to make the create a new row work:

    ViewLink viewLink = myAppModule.useApplicationModule().findViewLink("CvalidLink");
    ViewObject viewObject = viewLink.getDestination();
    Row newRow = viewObject.createRow();

    So, what I still can't understand, even after scrounging the forums here, is what do I do if my table has TWO (as it happens, it's actually three) foreign keys to two different tables? I can comment the associations out, but rather than doing that, I'd like to find out if there's a real solution.

    I noticed there's a method supposedly inherited by ViewObject called "createAndInitRow(AttributeList)" ... But it seems to deny it exists; I'm able to get that to work.

    Any thoughts? I appreciate any assistance.

    I use the following to generate a JWS Impl from my WSDL

    wsdlc srcWsdl="${wsdl.file}" destJwsDir="${wsdl.output}" destImplDir="${wsdl.output}/impl" packageName="${pkg.name}" /

    This creates a JWS Impl where the WebServie annotation has an endpointInterface.

    How can I add a SOAPMessageHandler? Currently I use the following annotation:

    @SOAPMessageHandlers ( {

    When I run JWSC via ANT I get the following:

    [ERROR] - The annotation javax.jws.soap.SOAPMessageHandlers is not allowed on SERVICE when a javax.jws.WebService.endpointInterface is used.

    How can I add a SOAPMessageHandler to a JWS file that has been generated from a WSDL?

    DB:2.72:Problem While Creating Attachment View Link In Jdeveloper 1z

    At first when I tried to create a attachment view link using JDeveloper, i was getting a NPE.
    The exception was being thrown because the Model project that you are trying to create the Attachment ViewLink in has not been initialized for Business
    Components. This is where you assign the ApplicationDB connection to the model project. Without this initialization the Attachments ViewLink wizard
    cannot create any components.
    The initialization usually occurs when you first try to create an Application Module, Entity or View Object. You can manually do this by going into the
    properties of the model project and select the Business Components entry in the tree. From there you can select the Initialize checkbox and select the
    ApplicationDB database connection.

    Now after initialization, when I enter the "Application name" in the field and click on next(after entering other data as well), it gives me an error on screen saying "The Application name is incorrect!".
    Have anyone ever faced this issue. I am sort of stuck out here.

    DB:2.71:Java Web Start And Ssl On Tomcat zp

    Hello !!

    I have the following problem:

    I'm starting an application with JWS. This application asks for a file to a servlet which is executed in a Tomcat Web Server.
    The client application writes the file's information in the client hard disk so I had to sign the code.
    The sign isn't the problem since Java Web Start recognizes the signed code with DSA.
    The problem is when the application attempts to connect with Tomcat Web Server through https. The application is launched with http and it asks for the file's information through an https connection using an URL object and its IOstreams.
    I have set up SSL in Tomcat Web Server following the instructions in Jakarta Web page. I think it is well installed because I can connect to Tomcat initial Web page with Web browsers.

    The application starts correctly but when it tries to connect to the servlet through https, a message is showed on JWS console saying:

    "encrypting server chain error ....."

    I've downloaded "jcert.jar", "jnet.jar" and "jsse.jar" and put them in "..jre/lib/ext" used by JWS in client. I have also configured all params described in JSSE docs in javasoft:

    .....
    'System.setProperty
    ("java.protocol.handler.pkgs",
    "com.sun.net.ssl.internal.www.proto col")';
    'System.getProperty
    ("javax.net.ssl.keyStore",
    "d:/proyectos/despliegue/clases/guill eRSA")';

    .... and so on.

    I think JWS detects this changes because it didn't allow me to create https connections by URL objects before I download this SSL libraries and configure the params.

    JWS is running on jre 1.3.1. I've also read in javasoft that java plug-in 1.3.1 doesn't allow signed application with an auto-trusted certificate generated with keytool, it may not be recognized. The Tomcat Web Server trusted certificate is auto-trusted as is described in Tomcat instructions.

    I don't know if it is an JWS deficiency or if I have to do something more or something different.

    Thanks in advance.

    You mention that "I've downloaded "jcert.jar", "jnet.jar" and "jsse.jar" and put them in "..jre/lib/ext" used by JWS in client". Did you manually move these jar files into ..jre/lib/ext or using jnlp extension. I been trying to use jnlp extension (wanted to make it unnoticable to our client) to do this for a while now without luck. Can you tell me how you going about do this?

    DB:2.71:Log Files ??? pm

    One option is to explicitly create the log files in whatever directory is specified by the System property "user.home" - or you could use the current working directory - System.getProperty("user.dir");.

    Come to think of it, the latter method might be how JWS does it...

    Hi

    You can create the client jar from the workshop test console. Make sure the wsdl gets listed fine there.

    In the overview tab click on the proxy jar button to create a client jar. If it fails, check the server log or console window for some stack trace or error message.

    Alternatively, you can use the clientgen ant task and try generating a client jar. You can enable verbose logging to see why its failing if it does.

    Let me know how it goes.

    Is it advisable (in terms of performance e. g.), to create view links and view objects as local variables in multi table relations?

    examle: the jdev online help says to use
    such multi table relations like this:

    // A (one) - B (many) - C (many)
    ViewLink a2b = appMod.findViewLink("AtoB");
    ViewLink b2c = appMod.findViewLink("BtoC");

    ...
    while(cV.hasNext())
    {
    Row cR = cV.next();
    ...
    }
    }
    }

    I would rather keep everything concerning

    ViewLink a2b = appMod.findViewLink("AtoB");
    ViewObject aV = a2b.getSource();

    while(cV.hasNext())
    {
    Row cR = cV.next();

    DB:2.70:Association Problem Or Maybe How-To-Use Problem. dx

    We have a problem making a ViewLink populate attributes.

    We have EntityA with primary key attribute A_PK and attribute A_FK, plus EntityB with primary key attribute B_PK and attribute B_Data.

    There is a 1 - 0..1 relationship between EntityA and EntityB specified by EntityA.A_FK foreign key to EntityB.B_PK

    We've created an association for this, a pair of view (one for each Entity) and also a ViewLink using the Association.

    When testing this in an ApplicationModule, everything operates fine except the foreign key attribute is never populated. That is, we create an EntityA and then add an EntityB, EntityA.A_FK remains null.

    If we reverse the foreign key (a new attribute EntityB.B_FK is a foreign key to EntityA.A_PK) and create an association and ViewLink using this, then everything operates fine and EntityB.B_FK is populated correctly.

    Does JDeveloper not allow 1-0..1 associations with the foreign key in the "1" side?

    Is there something "special" I must do when creating the association and/or ViewLink?

    Sorry, we switched from using two ViewObjects and a
    ViewLink (which nwe couldn't get to work) to using
    two EntityObjects (neither read-only or reference) in
    a single View.In that case, the problem is caused by the fact that you turned off reference. Please refer to the other thread.

    I am using JSP 1.0 as the frontend and MySQL 3.23.24 as the backend under Windows 98 and Java Web Server 2.0. I am trying 2 connect 2 the database via a Java Bean, and by using a DSNless connection and a JDBC-ODBC Bridge. The JWS gives me problems when I try running the bean through my JSP file.
    The problem statement is:
    Connection con=DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:Driver={MySQL};Server=comp3;Database=Counter");

    The error message at the JWS prompt is:
    Data Source name not found and no default driver specified.

    Could it be because the JWS and the MySQL server r running on the same m/c?
    When I try running the Java program as a stand-alone application, I get 'Access Denied' from the MySQL server.

    DB:2.70:Dsnless Connection On Jws 2.0 ap

    Yes, I did use Class.forName properly, and the whole thing works perfectly with a System DSN.

    The DSNless connection even works with the Java program being a stand-alone application, but the JWS gives me 'Data Source Name not found and no Default Driver specified'. Any ideas?

    DB:2.70:Framework Viewlink Error Between Views ad

    I have a A_ViewObject which the primary key is IDA (attribute type BigDecimal) containing only one A_EntityObject. Another B_C_ViewObject which
    has two EntityObject into the ViewObject ( B_EntityObject and C_EntityObject and both are persistent). The problem occurs when trying to create a ViewLink (Master/Detail) between the the A_ViewObject (Source) and B_C_ViewObject (Destination).
    It seems that the framework try to put the A_ViewObject.IDA on both entities in the other View, in the same position (index).

    A_EntityObject fields:
    1 IDA
    2 attribute01
    3 attribute02
    _____________________________________________
    B_EntityObject fields:
    1 IDB
    2 attribute01
    3 attribute02
    4 IDA (FK from A_EntityObject)
    _____________________________________________
    C_EntityObject fields:
    1 IDC
    2 attribute01
    3 attribute02
    4 attribute03

    When I create an instance of the B_C_ViewObjetc from the ViewLink, the frameworks thy to do the following:

    B_EntityObject.IDA = A_EntityObject.IDA
    (the correct assignment)

    and

    C_EntityObject.attribute03 = A_EntityObject.IDA

    How can we avoid this problem?? The attribute in the C_EntityObject should never be assigned!!

    And I dont want it to be happen.
    Any Tips will be wellcome.
    Thanks!

    Good if you set mime type to be presented by web server. (nothing to do with tomcat ... it has it already done.
    What you have to do ( or any browsing user ) is to register that mime type with a browser.
    It is done usually by JWS client installation. Usually means for following configurations:
    linux, netscape4
    windows, ie

    Other combination (linux,mozilla; linux,konqueror; windows,netscape) must be done manually.

    DB:2.69:Deployment Location Of Jar ≪Resources≫. Best Practices? xd

    Good Morning,

    I have my JWS app working fine. I am now at the deployment stage.

    My question boils down to where is the best place to deploy the jar files that the java web start app requires?

    At the moment I have a pre-existing WAR file and I have created a new directory in the WAR file that holds the jar files specific to the jws app.

    So on Tomcat I would have something very typical like this when my-web-app (not its real name!) WAR was exploded:

    webapps\my-web-app
    webapps\my-web-app\META-INF
    webapps\my-web-app\WEB-INF

    but with an additional folder that would hold the java webstart specific jars:

    webapps\my-web-app\my-jws-app\lib

    This works fine - in the ant build I can copy all the required jars to my my-jws-app/lib folder, sign them and add the folder to the my-web-app.war. All is good.

    In the JNLP file I would have something like this:

    jar href="my-web-app/my-jws-app/lib/fast-md5-2.6.2.jar"/
    jar href="my-web-app/my-jws-app/lib/forms-1.3.0.jar"/
    jar href......

    I'm now wondering though if this is the best way to do this. One issue is that by default the jar files would be accessible if a user typed in http://somehwhere.com/my-web-app/my-jws-app/lib/fast-md5-2.6.2.jar where as if they were in the webapps\my-web-app\WEB-INF\lib folder they wouldn't.

    The problem is that if I put the jars required for the jws app in the \WEB-INF\lib folder it gets a bit of a mess of jars for different purposes, some of which would be signed for jws purposes, some not. I also currently generate the JNLP file on the fly in a Servlet and so build up the list of required jars by getting the ServletContext.getResourcePaths for the my-jws-app\lib folder. If all the jars were in the \WEB-INF\lib folder I would probably have to hardcode in the Servlet the required jars for the java web start app.

    Maybe I should create a specific web-start.war - but I would rather not do this? How does anyone else deploy their JWS jar resources?

    Cheers

    Mat

    DB:2.69:Deployment Location Of Jar ≪Resources≫. Best Practices? xd

    Well you are trying to protect your JARs from beeing downloaded ... but somehow the JARs are actually needed by the client to run the application.
    So why should you care that anybody can access those JAR files by simply entering the URL in the browser that directly points to the JAR?
    I mean any user that runs the Java-Webstart application will download it (programatically) by the JNLP. So after that moment the file is on the disk of every client. Any user can now go to its temporary Internet files, and unzip the JAR to see the content.

    The rule is that simple: Don't put any confidential data/passwords/auth-stuff in the JAR!

    What we do for example to protect/auth is that we initialize the WebStart application in its init method with a SessionToken.
    You can pass init-arguments in the JNLP file.
    So you deliver every time a different JNLP file that contains a session-token in the init-arguments to validate the client when it does register to your remote services (if you have any).
    I think creating the JNLP file by a servlet / on demand is a common usage scenario (and also the desired way to bring some session variables / auth stuff into the client).

    //With this "e" variable you can retrieve the exception

    I would like to simulate a offline mode when my server is up. In this case on my server something is down, but my web server is up.
    If I send an HTTP error message (503, 404, 500) in response of a get http method sent by JWS, JWS displays an error message instead of running in offline mode (launching the jnlp file in the cache).

    How could I answer to JWS to simulate a down server in order to work in the offline mode ?

    DB:2.67:Forcing Offline Mode f9

    (The web server is not down, but I want to simulate
    this case)
    The user clicks the Application Icon.
    JWS checks if there is a new release of the JNLP file
    on the web server.
    The servlet has to access a database but this db is
    down, so the servlet has to return an error code to
    notify JWS to run the JNLP file in offline mode (in
    the cache). So the servlet returns an http error.
    JWS stops and displays an error message :(((My problem is this last case, I would like JWS runs in
    offline mode in this case : reading JNLP file from the
    cache and launching the application in the cache.

    Somebody knows what sort of error my servlet has to
    return ?You ask for two things:

    1. How to simulate error conditions

    2. What kind of http status message is necessary that JWS doesn't abort, but rather continues

    First 2.

    Look at this doc

    http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec10.html

    and play with either "200 OK", or perhaps "100 Continue" or some other "2xx" message.

    Or try to find out a case where JWS doesn't barf and monitor the net traffic to find out what return code was given.

    Now 1.

    Provoking this condition could be done with serveral approaches that range from entering an endless loop in your server, from shutting down your server to shutting down your database and monitoring net traffic to see what is returend by the servlet in case the database
    returns with an error.

    DB:2.67:Change Is Access To Properties With Jws 1.0.1_02? cx

    Thanks, that was indeed the problem. Since one of the points of this application was to illustrate the use of the JWS API for writing unsigned applications, I worked around the problem by changing the property to start with jnlp.

    Unfortunately unsigned applications look a lot uglier now that JWS adds an "unsigned window" annotation to each window.

    Has anyone successfully used a JWS client app using JMS? I have a Swing application that listens on a JMS topic and works outside of JWS. When launched from JWS, no JMS messages are received. Possible security/permissions problem, not sure. any advice?

    DB:2.66:Jms And Jws cd

    I have never tried this, but I'm sure your bound to run into some issues with security. However, it can be done. The JWS security sandbox is less restricitive then the applet security sandbox and I know there are people using JMS from applets.

    DB:2.65:Perforce - Can't Create New Viewlink jx

    I have just started using Perforce with JDeveloper, which seems to be a very cool thing. However, no matter how I try I can't seem to create eg. a new ViewLink in an existing project - this is the error I get:

    Object cannot be created in this package. It is read-only.

    This is of course because Perforce has it; but there seems to be no option to open the package for edit. How do other people get around this issue?

    DB:2.65:Perforce - Can't Create New Viewlink jx

    The issue here is that Business Components is not informing the versioning system that it needs to write to a file - needs to be opened file for edit.

    The work around is to switch to the system navigator locate the file and manually open it for edit. Eg.

    If I have a project call BCProject
    Open the System Navigator
    Expand the BCProject
    Select BCProject.xml
    Open the file for Edit using the menu Versioning - Open for Edit

    Should now be able to create your VO.

    This issue is fixed in JDeveloper 11 TP2

    DB:2.65:Re: Workshop Test Client Not Working With Ws-Rm 7c

    Maybe I should add two things.

    1. it does not work with admin gui test console either. I can see no printout when I set @policy (but no error message either)
    2. simply removing the @policy for WS-RM helps, I can see the printout

    now, my main problem of course is not the test client, but my own client, a jws calling the hello world jws (kind of at least).
    currently it behave like the test client. so no printout, no exception with the @policy.
    printout from the called jws without @policy.

    both jws (sender and receiver) live in two different web service projects and I have them running with workshop 10.3
    (run as) under wls 9.2 in one domain.

    so why is it not working even if the client is a jws?
    does ws-rm have problems within one domain?

    DB:2.65:Re: Workshop Test Client Not Working With Ws-Rm 7c

    Barossa,

    How many policy files did you attach into your JWS. there was a bug with Workshop that @Policies annotation are ingored in the generated WSDL. If you used @Policies to attach multiple police files, I would recommend to use Weblogic JWSC ant task to compile your JWS.

    thanks

    DB:2.65:Ssl With Jws ks

    I am trying to setup SSL of iFS using the JWS. (Since I couldn't get the apache to work) What I have done:

    - installed iFS with JWS. (Using three tier configuration)
    - checked the JWS admin applet and the unsecure server was running fine.
    - tried to create a certificate using JRE1.3 as my home, but got this error message that it did not return a PK081(??) Key.
    - tried running authstore with JRE1.2.2 instead and it worked fine (tip from java.sun.com forum)
    - restarted server, now with extra passwd. to enter, and opened the admin applett.
    - BUT Java server is marked Terminated and the two services are status unknown....
    - I try to click startbutton, wich results in the server and services run for about 30 seconds...

    What to do??
    Any Ideas?

    Sjur

    DB:2.65:Ssl With Jws ks

    My problem might be that I'm just testing the system right now so the server is only running on my computer on the localnet. So the fully qualified hostname is just my computer name. Or?? Localhost dosn't work. Should it include the domain name?

    Sjur

    PS: When I delete the keys file in the server root everything is back to normal, but of course with out the secure service..

    DB:2.65:Using External Web-Service Via Http-Post? 79

    Hi there!

    I have a WSDL-file describing an external JWS. For testing the JWS I do the following:
    - import the WSDL into weblogic workshop
    - create a JCX from the WSDL.
    - create a Test JWS from the JCX.
    - start the debugger.
    - press "start conversation".
    - press "continue converstion".
    Now, the JWS tells me, that I cannot use the web service via http-get. How can
    I setup the test JWS to use http-post?

    DB:2.65:Applets With Jnlp ma

    Hi,

    I'm trying to create an applet using JWS technology. My previous applet was able to communicate with javascript (using JSObject) in order to open a link in a new window.

    With JWS, when the applet is launched, it is run in a new "window" but not in an explorer. So when I use the getWindow() method, I can't get the real window to execute

    JSObject win = JSObject.getWindow(applet);
    win.eval("window.open(' "+ event.getURL() + "')");Which launches an exception (win is null).

    Is it possible to open links from an applet using JWS???

    Thanks,
    klypso

    DB:2.65:Applets With Jnlp ma

    The problem is you don't bring the applet up in a browser, so the JSObject does not exist. The way I handled this is to:

    First determine the operation system:
    String os = System.getProperty("os.name");

    Then find Internet Explorer or whatever browser you want to use depending on the OS:
    StringBuffer sb1 = new StringBuffer();
    sb1.append("C:\\Program Files\\Internet Explorer\\Iexplore.exe ");
    sb1.append(localURLStr);
    Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
    try {
    if (os.equalsIgnoreCase("Windows 2000") ||
    os.equalsIgnoreCase("Windows XP")) {
    rt.exec(sb1.toString());
    }
    where localURLStr is the URL you want to display
