    Hi all,

I am planning to deploy point to multipoint bridges, at least 3 non-root bridges with ant-3338 directional dish antenna. Is it possible to install two directional antenna pointing in two different direction towards non-root bridges?

    Thanks

    DB:4.70:Br 1300 External Antenna xz

No. Not unless both antennas are connected to the same (I mean the exact same) antenna terminal of your AP/bridge.

At best, you'd want to look at something like "sector" antennas to get the additional gain (like four 90 degree sector antennas to cover the 360 horizon).

Unfortunately, you'd also need some "power dividers" to accurately distribute the TX power and accurately combine the RX signals ... then the dividers will eat about half the gain (in some cases).

*Most* of the time, for point-to-multipoint, the "point" end (the root) should be an OMNI.

    Good Luck

HI, I have a doubt the bridge 1300 series, with connectors for external antennas, specifically the Cisco Aironet 1300 Series Outdoor Access Point/Bridge with RP-TNC Type Connectors

    AIR-BR1310G-X-K9-R,

can be used both antennas, the internal antenna and the external one, at the same time? ...

    Please respond to my doubt

    thanks..

    DB:4.01:Bridge1300 78

    Hi Ricardo,

    Your doubt is "well founded" The 1300 Series comes in two versions. One with Integrated Antennas and one with RP-TNC type connectors for external antennas. Neither model has both Internal and External Antennas;

The Cisco Aironet 1300 Series with integrated antenna can be quickly installed to provide a LAN bridge to a remote site or multiple sites. The 1300 Series with antenna connectors supports a variety of Cisco 2.4-GHz antennas, providing range and coverage versatility.

    Antenna Interface

    AIR-BR1310G-x-K9 or AIR-LAP1310G-x-K9:

    DB:3.50:Antenna. z1

Probably, but you'd need to put holes in the computer to route the wires.

You'd also need cables to connect the internal card to the external antennas. Depending on the internal card, you'd probably need 2 or 3 antennas.

Cables would be something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Mini-PCI-Laptop-Booster-Antenna-RP-SMA/dp/B0018Q0UBY

The internal cards have little tiny mini-coax connectors on them.

    DB:3.40:Cisco Aironet 1300 cz

Not sure about what you try to achieve... are you using the 1300 to connect 2 buildings? In a point to point fashion? Or are you using it to cover laptops 410 feet away? In the last case, you face what is called the near far issue, your laptops hear the signal from the AP, but the AP doesn't hear the answer from the 2.2 dBi weak clients. It is unlikely you will be able to make it work if it is the case.

a 13 dBi antenna will anyway give you better results than a 5.2 dBi, as more gain usually also means better receptivity, but that probably won't solve the near far issue.

Currently, I have a 1300 bridge in the main building plugged into a network switch, and an external antenna up on the roof that has line of site to each of the 5 buildings. I have 1300's on the outside of each building, pointing to the external antenna on top of the main building. Each of them has an ethernet cable plugged into a 5-port switch, and a few pc's are plugged into those switches (in each building). Some of these 1300's are on our old 1030 WLSE; some arent. Even so, this setup works fine.

I now want to duplicate this setup with new 3602e's that are joined to our new 5508 wlc.

    How?

You are 100% correct for a PCI card but he needs to use a PCMCIA card for a laptop,

I also would not recommend using an antenna you buy on ebay as the FCC certification is for the system this includes the cable and antenna, if you change this then the install is responsible for the certification.

The certification is valid for any Cisco antenna that can be found at this link for the applications listed.

I'm using many AP and BR in 2.4GHz for outdoor connections. I saw that the new product Aironet 1200 can be used with 5,7GHz frequency but it does not have a RF connector for an external antenna.

Or, is there any other good solution for this ?

It is not essential (the kit and phone will still work together over Bluetooth without it), but you may get a benefit in signal strength.

What is the acceptable cable lenght from the external antenna (21 dBI dish) to the Bridge (1310)?

    DB:2.81:Aironet 1310 Wireless Bridge Setup 9c

You dont need that two sets of coax, as you can connect the antenna to one end of lightning arrestor, while the other end of arrestor goes to the cable coming from bridge (CAB100ULL-R). You should ground the lug provided with the arrestor to earth.

Between the bridge and power injector, you should install a grounding lug, but i dont think it comes with the gear. I have seen that lug in Roof mount kits, but it does not come in the wall mount kit. Check this ordering guide, for what comes with the WMK and RMK kits. I dont know if there is a separate Cisco part number for that. You could probably order a third party lug for this. Any time a grounding lug is introduced between a cable segment, you will need two sets of cables each going from the equipments to the lug.

    Hi,

We've installed an Aironet 1300 (with external antenna) at the top of an 80 foot mast. Before installation we configured it with a static IP, setup its SSID etc etc. We also tested connecting to another WAP etc. All setup was done using its web interface.

However we cannot access it using the ethernet port on the power injector. If I connect using the console port I can see that it is running, however during initialization it says that it can't bring up the FastEthernet port.

If I do 'show ip interface brief' then it lists the IP address against BVI, but says the ethernet port is down. We've tried a different power injector with the same result.

Does anyone have any idea what we're doing wrong? We've had no similar problems with the other 20+ Aironet's we've installed.

probably wont. dB is the functionality of adding together different units that otherwise wouldn't be addable. (That's a real word in the southeastern US).

You could go WGB, but root/non-root might work better. This will allows you to pass multiple VLAN across the link.

    Hello everyone.

Is it possible to run two antennas from a 1300? We have three sites that we need to connect (one root node, point-to-multipoint). All 1300s would run in bridge mode. We are curious if the root node would need two antennas to receive signal from two 1300s in bridge mode (the non-root nodes are well outside the area of one antenna).

Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

    Absolutely NO.

Have an omnidirectional antenna at the central location and directional antennas at teh remote end pointing towards the central site.

This is the best design for an outdoor point to multipoint connectivity.

    DB:2.71:Antenna For Ap1200 mz

    Hi Tanveer,

    It is possible to use the 24120 Antenna with the 1200 series AP's. Have a look at the attached docs;

    AIR-ANT24120

This antenna operates in the 2400-2500 MHz band and is designed for use outdoors. The antenna is compatible with Cisco Aironet radio products utilizing a reverse-polarity threaded naval connector (RP-TNC) connector.

This antenna is designed for use with Cisco Aironet access points and bridges but can be used with any 2.4-GHz Cisco Aironet radio device that uses a reverse-polarity threaded naval connector (RP-TNC).

    From this doc;

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps469/prod_installation_guide09186a0080148acf.html

Omnidirectional Mast mount outdoor high gain antenna with a RP-TNC connector-This antenna was designed for WLAN applications for frequencies of 2400-2500 MHz. The antenna is omni directional and has a nominal gain of 12 dBi. This design uses an elevated center-feed to produce an elevation pattern with very little "squint" or beam-tilt. It is designed to be mounted on a round mast.

    Interesting.

You say you are in a 3G only area but your device is recieving a 4G signal. When I review my MiFi the LTE signal displays as "Not Available". Perhaps something has changed in your enviornment or Verizon is testing a new tower in the area. You might want to try restricting your device to 3G only to eliminate the hand-off scenarios that so many are having problems with.

The next day(15th) there is an article in the local paper touting the fact that VZW will have 4G running in all of it's current markets in Northern Idaho/Spokane/Eastern Washinton by December 31st. .I am in Sandpoint, Idaho. Assume that has something to do with showing a LTE value.

Meanwhile I have restricted my 4510 to "CDMA/EVDO only"... when it works it works reasonably well, when it stops, might as well go do something else. Since you've educted me about signal data, I've learned that when it gets really slow, the Evdo sigal changes from -75 /-80 range to something more like -100 or higher. Moving the unit around doesn't really help when this happens. A restart does sem to help....My wife is ready to give it back(or toss it out the window), I think it is much faster than WildBlue when it is working good, but certainly not very consistent... maybe an antenna would help, there is a good read on the above referenced website about deciding if an antenna will help. I haven't had the time to researchit more yet ,... Also hoping 4G doesn't just mean more problems like so many others report.

The boom length will need to be shortened some as well as making sure your reflector has proper down tilt. The other option is have your local distributor contact me.I am flexible, metal is heavy to ship, so bulk shipping or sourcing a local reflector is the only way to be cost effective.Todd

The Lat C600 and Inspiron 4000 are the same and you correctly understand the wireless situation with your notebook. Since I have an internal combo card and mostly am wired at work, I use a PC Card (PCMCIA) wireless card. Since you are also leaning in that direction, look to the same manufacturer of the "g" router you will connect to most for a PCMCIA "g" card solution. That way compatability should not be an issue.
