    Hi all,
When I try to connect the DBA Studio (in the WIN 2000 SP 3), client of Oracle , the error message is
    "ORA-12571 : TNS : Packet writer failure."

But in the TNSNAME.ORA file is working fine. meaning SQL*Plus and other Oracle client can connect.

Only the GUI application(like DBA Studio, enterprise manager) are giving this error.

How can I solve this ploblem?

    Thanks.

    DB:5.06:Ora-12571 Tns : Packet Writter Failure 3j

yes I few more tnsnames.ora file other directory for other version and application.

For this same version HOME directory, only one file is there.
so, SQL*Plus is connecting by using this file , but not for GUI applications.(DBA studio,Enterprise manager)

ok, so if you use the listener you cannot connect

I had this issue but it wasn't the firewall.

Can you post the listener.ora for us?
try to change it, pointing the host address as "localhost" or even the IP Address instead the "hostname". And then try to tnsping your service.
    If necessary, re-create the listener.

In my case, re-creating the listener and configuring the local ip address instead hostname or even localhost worked well, and I could then connect to the DB.

    Hope it Helps

Check your init.ora (or spfile) for db_name and db_domain and see if your domain name is included in there. You might also have to take the names.default_domain out of your sqlnet.ora file.

If you're building a database for the first time, and that's where it's failing, don't specify a domain on creation (ie, leave the sid and the global db name the same)

It appears that the packet header has changed after leaving the server. Enable level 16 tracing for your client and server and compare the server side and client side trace files. You may want to contact your network administrator and fix the TCP/IP packet problem.

It could be problem on the database side. Did you try from a different client machine to see if it's just your machine?

You could do a loopback test on the database machine to see if it's working okay.

BTW, this is the Forms forum. There might be a better forum for this kind of question.

    DB:3.52:Re: Ora-12571 Tns Packet Writer Failure 3k

    Aloha!

Thanks all for the time and effort give to my issue. I solved if by creating a new Listener with a different port and deleted the the old one. after which i edited the newly created Listener, change the port to the normal 1521 port, and everything works well.

Once again thank you very much.

    Hi,

Oracle Database 10.2.0.1 on Windows Server 2003 V5.2

A few weeks the datbase works fine.

In the last night, oracle crashs / the listener (???)

In the trace-file I can read:

"optisk: network error occurred while two-task server trying to send break; error code = 12571"

    TNS-12571:TNS:packed writer failure

Anybody here who can tell me what could cause this behaviour ?

    Temporary network-problems ???

    Kind regards,

has anyone every run across ora-12569 (tns packet checksum failure) in the oidldapd01sXX.log files? This is causing my ldap server to fail on startup, so nothing is working. Everything was working fine Friday until we tried to recycle opmn processes, then I started getting these errors.

    Hi,

I have this same problem and got it resolved. All I did was from lsnrctl prompt, gave the command start.

    lsnrctl start

Listener will start normally and everything works fine as earlier.

    Hi,

I would like to seek help regarding the error ORA-12571: TNS:packet writer failure.

When I intall Oracle Form 6 in my PC all my apps including SQL*Plus have the same error ORA-12571: TNS:packet writer failure.

Any advise or help from anyone on this forum will be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

    DB:3.46:Ora-12571: Tns:Packet Writer Failure 1c

    Hi,

This is usually due to an improper sqlnet.ora setting. Here are some possible causes and remedies:

    - Loose network cables. This error has been observed when there was a loose cable connection to the SCSI disk array (on an Oracle Parallel Server system). Related errors were also subsequently noted in the NT event log.
    - IP address conflict (Oracle 9.0.1).
    - Authentication services. One solution is to edit the sqlnet.ora file and change the line:

    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
    to
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NONE)

    Try this solution.
btw. on internet is too many articles reg this error.

Yes i am connecting through client side(TOAD).

When i continously execute the query then there is no problem. But problem occurs when i sits idle more than approx. 2 minutes.

Listner is properly running at server side.

    Also while connecting though toad
    1st Error is
    Ora-12571: TNS: PAcket write failure
    Ora-12541: TNS: No Listener
    Then it connects.

    What is the problem?
    Where i can look into?

    Thanks,

    DB:3.45:Re: Ora-03113: End-Of-File On Communication Channel &Amp; Ora-03114: za

you should create a new listner from listner confrigation.
    As per your database requirements.
Also check paging size of your server, is it competable with RAM?
Check the firewall setting with the network.

    thanks reguards,

    darshan.

    HI everybody

    I'm a DBA ORACLE 8i

I previously installed Discoverer, then I installed ORacle Enterprise Manager 8.1.6.

I use the Net 8 assistant to configure both archives but when I try to test my Names Service, the assistants shows me: Connecting...ORA-12541: TNS:no listener
    The test did not succeed.

I don't think the problem is Names Service configuration

    Questions:
Is the listener.ora which is damage o incorrect?
Is the service Oracletnslistner the real problem?
Is the database dedicated mode which is causing problems?
I red the log listener in subdirectory log and I see this information:

From memory this was often due to environment variables not being set correctly.

Make sure the following are all correctly set:

    ORACLE_SID
    ORACLE_HOME
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH/SHLIB_PATH/LIBPATH (whichever SCO uses)

make sure you use svrmgrl rather than sqlplus and use connect internal rather than connect as sys or system.

    Hi All,
ORA-12571 is a network error. Whenever network is heavily loaded ORACLE throws this error. This is a bug in win NT 4. Check which service pack are you using.
This bug is been succesfully corrected by MICROSOFT and service pack has been released. Try to get service pack 6a. This service pack is released after service pack 6. This service pack will get from MICROSOFT website.

I was also getting this error but everything calm.
I recommended this to my SYS ADMIN and network guy done accordingly.

I think it will definately solve your problem. For any query can contact me on goel_sumeet@yahoo.com.

Hi folks, I'm on NT 4.0 SP6 and I'm trying to install the Personal Edition of Oracle 9i with General Purpose database and the Database Configuration Assistant displays error "ORA-12571: TNS PACKET WRITER FAILURE".

I've read a lot here in the installation forum; I've tried installing from the /install/win32/setup.exe, I've
tried different database types, running the DCA standalone after the install, and I still get this error.

    I beleive my system specs are adequate, ie. disc space, memory, cpu, etc...;

Also, in the beginning of the install it tells me that I should have MTS (Microsoft Transaction Server) installed. Is this true? Do I really need MTS for a 'personal edition', non-networked version of 9i?

Can anyone help me solve this problem?

I saw someone respond that Personal Edition was only for
Windows 98. I don't beleive that this is true. I know folks that have it installed on XP and 2000, as well as 98.

    DB:2.97:Ora-12571 Tns Error (Net80 V. 8i) xd

    Okay, here's an interesting conundrum:

I have a machine running XP Professional and have tried to install one of our Forms6i applications onto it. The installation creates two oracle homes, one is 8i and uses the newer networking software. The other (in which the forms runtime resides) is 8.0 and uses the net80 version.

Now for the fun part: when I try to connect to the database (Oracle 9i database -- Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.4.0 - 64bit Production
With the Partitioning, OLAP and Oracle Data Mining options
JServer Release 9.2.0.4.0 - Production, if you want to be specific) using the SQL*Plus and TNSNAMES.ORA file in the 8i home...no prob.

BUT! If I try to connect to the EXACT SAME DATABASE using the SQL*Plus in the older 8.x home I get this error:

    ORA-12571: TNS:packet writer failure

I've noticed I'm not the only person who seems to be having this issue. AND I've also noticed that it seems to happen most often with XP Prof. Is this an OS compatibility issue? A net80 compatibility issue? Is there a work-around? A solution?

Any and all suggestions gratefully appreciated.

    Hi there,

I got the following error when I tried to install Net8 on XP, I can ping to the host and can't see any network problem, any clue on this?

Hmmm... not exactly on topic for SCM.

Anyway, make sure you're not blocking any IP with ZoneAlarm or the XP level firewall software. Verify you've got a good TNSNAMES.ORA and SQLNET.ORA file.

    Hi Gurus!

Here in our department we are getting the above problem frequently while trying to connect to the oracle database through SQL*Plus/Form/Report Builder etc. I have observed that on the client side where developer 6i is installed even we didnt perform any transaction/activity, we get the above problem!

For the solution even i have tried following but didnt work,
1- Uninstall and Reinstall all of the developer6i.
2- Removed all related registry entries and files.

The only thing which worked is to clean up all the system and to Reinstall the Operating System (windowXP).

Which is very time taking and painfull to repeat it.

Please have a solution for this!!!

If you weren't shutting down the database, this was probably a transient failure. If it recurs, you'll want to enable SQL*Net tracing to diagnose the root cause.

As far as shutting down the database before rebooting, if this is a production database, then you absolutely should be shutting down Oracle before rebooting. If this is a development database, it is probably less critical.

DB:2.74:9i On Nt 4.0 Sp6 Dca Error Ora-12571 Creating And Starting Oracle Instance ds

Hi folks, I'm on NT 4.0 SP6 and I'm trying to install the Personal Edition of Oracle 9i with General Purpose database and the Database Configuration Assistant displays error "ORA-12571: TNS PACKET WRITER FAILURE".
I can't get through the db configuration; All else appears
to install well. I looked up this error and it says to contact Oracle support.

I've read a lot here in the installation forum; I've tried installing from the /install/win32/setup.exe, I've
tried different database types, running the DCA standalone after the install, and I still get this error.

    I beleive my system specs are adequate, ie. PIII, disc space, memory, cpu, etc...;

Also, in the beginning of the install it tells me that I should have MTS (Microsoft Transaction Server) installed. Is this true? Do I really need MTS for a 'personal edition', non-networked version of 9i?

Can anyone help me solve this problem?

    Additionally:
I saw someone respond that Personal Edition was only for
Windows 98. I don't beleive that this is true. I know folks that have it installed on XP and 2000, as well as 98.

There seems to be a lot of problems with DCA posted in the installation forum. Why doesn't Oracle fix it so it works right?

    Many thanks for this forum.

DB:2.74:The Vmware Virtualcenter Server Service 2.5.0.64192 Terminated Unexpectedly m3

I appreciate the suggestions but we have tried all the simple stuff like that we can think of. The real issue is that the 12571 error is such a generic Oracle error that it could be almost anything. The machines are on the same subnet so we aren't firewalled and the network shouldn't be an issue but that is about the last thing we need to check. Simply because the error code given basically states that the DB was not available at the time it tried so it quits.

For the time being we set the service to restart immediately after it goes down so at the very least it should go back up pretty quickly, but it will still interrupt backups or anything that might be going. We did a trace in the Oracle client and are currently going through that to see if we can find anything.

To answer your questions we checked all updates to the client (10.2.0.4) and rebuilt the system DSN to ensure it was using the 10.2.0.4 ODBC client - what specific settings would you suggest I check in the ODBC client that would be different between 9i and 10g? Realize that this ran for a year with no issues on 9i - we just don't want to fail back to it if we don't have to.

Make sure the tnsnames.ora file that dba studio is using

    Hi all,

Not sure where to post this, so trying for the general forum to start...

I have also searched and read all the forums for help on this already as well the Oracle documentation and anything I could find from several on-line searches, etc.

I have Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition and Oracle Forms 6i installed on Win2K. Everything worked fine when it was just Oracle 8i running, ie: connecting to the database in SQLPlus Worksheet, but when I try and connect to the database in the datablock wizard in forms I get the ORA-12571: TNS: packet writer failure error!

Don't tell me to re-install, I've done that like 6 times already. I've check the tnsnames.ora files and tried that fix already. I don't know what else to try short of fdisk and redoing everything from scratch again, but I don't have time for that as this machine is used daily for other tasks.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated!!!

    Thx in advance!

Your one line of help for ORA-12571 in the existing support files is rather similar to the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy's info for Earth... Check database status, can you open a non TNS connection, directly from OS? Check the processes instance parameters.
This error means some resource, at os or db level is exhausted.
I additionally suggest you to format the trace output with the trcasst utility, so it can be in a more readable format.

You lost your connection to the instance. Could be a network problem,
intentional restart of the database, etc. Restarting the servers reconnects
to the database. You may want to look at another message thread in this
group on this issue. Has a couple of ideas of how to deal with it. Look for
    "Restart Oracle 8 - Tux 7.1 connections".

I have just installed Oracle 8i Enterprise on a Windows 2000 machine using all defaults for a typical installation. At the end of the installation, Net8 is successfully configured and then I follow the prompts for the creation of a database. It errors out during the Database Creation Process when "Initializing Database" with an ORA-12571: TNS: packet writer failure.

Subsequent attempts to create a new database independently of the installation procedure generate the same error.

I've tried downloading a new install zip file and installing again, with the same results.

I'm stuck and would appreciate any assistance.

    Thanks.

We are using Oracle 9i Ver 9.2 on Windows platform.
Yesterday on a client running on Windows 2000 Professional, this error came: "ORA-12571 TNS packet writer failure." I looked for the solution on net found n numbers of different responses. Some one says its a spyware, someone says Oracle server has blocked this particular IP address, just restart the server it will be OK, some one says, remove the TCP/IP protocol from the client again reinstall the protocols. My problem was solved, by removing the spy.
But I want to ask, whats the real meaning of this problem what shud be the proper action to resolve this.

ORA 12571 TNS Packet Writer Failure

I'm building a middleware client application (ASTA connectivity in a custom Delhi 7 server). I've got the server running on a Windows 2003 Server machine, and after the app runs for a long time (couple days seems like), I'll issue a client request and get the above error. Only feedback I get from those familiar with running the ASTA code is "Sounds like an Oracle config or install issue to me". If i just shut down the running 'server' app, restart, all is fine (no need to reboot the Windows 2003 server machine).

I've searched the Oracle archives on this one - seems like it rears up occassionally, and there may be a myriad of causes/conditions that create it.

I'm a 'naive' Oracle user - and not sure where to begin solving the issue.

As far as the config files, my .ora and .net are very 'plain' (basically what others here use to run the oracle 'forms' enviroment). ((I've included text at bottom of this message))

    One post suggested:
"Enable SQL*Net tracing to diagnose the root cause".
Can someone point me what config I should enter for this... and where the log file will reside ??

    Thanks

DB:2.60:9i On Nt 4.0 Sp6 Dca Error Ora-12571 Creating And Starting Oracle Instance 1a

    I beleive my system specs are adequate, ie. disc space, memory, cpu, etc...;

I am attempting to get a RH Linux 6.0 machine to see our Oracle 7.3.4 server, running on a remote Solaris machine. I got Oracle 8.0.5, which I was assured would work. I fought with it for a while, and finally I think I've got it installed properly. TNSPING says OK when I point it at our database. The problem is that when I try to use sqlplus (or perl DBD, which is my ultimate goal), it give me:

    ORA-12571: TNS: packet writer failure

I am certain that the server is running smoothly, so this is definitely a problem on the Linux machine. Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong? Thank you very much.

    Hi,

Our database is 8.1.7 on win 2000 server.

We bought a new server and are trying to switch our database to new server. We installed the software on new server and copied database files from old server. I made necessary changes in LISTENER, changed the computer name and IP to be same as old server. When i start the database, it sometimes connect and then show ORA-12571 TNS Packet Error.

Please suggest where else to change parameters so that i can switch to the new server.

    Thanks,

AFAIK, 8.1.7 is not certified/supported on Win 2003, so things may or may not work as advertised.

    Hi Gurus!

Here in our department we are getting the above problem frequently.

Another possibility is spyware. We encountered that recently and ran Ad Aware to remove the spyware.

After that you may encounter another error (I can't remember which one exactly) which can be resolved by donwloading LSP-fix (http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm).
