I love my Sansa Clip and use it for audiobooks using overdrive from my local library. I have one question that I hope someone can help me with. The clip is great at bookmarking so I'm able to go back and forth between books and music. When I recharge the battery all the bookmarks are lost. What am I doing wrong?

Glad I could help. As to the mini CD, my only suggestion is to check with Sandisk Technical support. They are usually very helpful. If they can't send you a CD there may be a place you can download the info from. I think there are links to them at the top of the forum. The folks here are great so if you have any trouble with Tech Support try a new post here about the CD. If you title it right(mention the problem in the title)someone is sure to respond fairly quickly. If you have been reading the forums you will notice there are a couple who answer lots of questions and seem pretty computer savvy as well as Clip savvy if you know what I mean. Anyway, glad I could help with the audiobook bit. Enjoy your clip, I know I love mine.

Is anyone else having problems transferring overdrive files to 'audiobooks'?

Initially I had to upgrade security settings in real player - that's all done and now the files started transferring.

But I get one of two error messages. If the files transfer without specific designation, I get told to synch to continue music subscription. Not at all sure what I should be synching with as I do not want to listen to music!

If I transfer to audiofiles, then the odm licence to listen fails to arrive so I can't listen anyway!

I have tried formatting, checked usb settings, and now can't even get the files to transfer, getting an additional error message

---------------------------OverDrive Media Console Transfer Wizard---------------------------An error occurred while attempting to transfer "Witch Hunt-Part01.wma".

Error details: Unable to transfer the selected title.Error 0x8004500F: The license does not exist or has expired.---------------------------OK ---------------------------

The licence is valid 14 days from today so that can't be right either!

Any help that will let me use this device will be very welcome!

You are a genius. I've called the library representatives for over a year, taken my PC in to the Microsoft store--nothing. I'd just about resigned myself to listening to MP3 audiobooks only. Your suggestions worked. I can't believe it! I'm relieved. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Nope, it's a lithium polymer battery. Incredible energy density for its size. The best way to treat it this type of battery is like a car battery: simply top it off and keep it charged.

Unlike a nickel-cadmium battery (old school), the LiPo has no memory, requiring regular discharges.

But, just like a car battery, where the lead-acid cells will suffer sulfation if left discharged (ruining the battery), the LiPo cannot be discharged below a minimum threshold, or the battery cannot be recovered. To protect against this, the Clip automatically powers down before this minimum.

Simply charge your Sansa regularly, and you'll be fine.

Do all the files for each book have the same album tag? If they have the same album tag, and the track numbers are in the proper sequence, then I assume the book should probably play through in the correct order when playing the album, just like an album of songs does? I have never used Overdrive though.

    Hello,

I am not sure how to fix this problem. I try downloading books from Overdrive and the books won’t play past the first two parts. I’ve read various things that are suggested on these boards. This is what I have tried:

Updated the driver in MTP mode.

Try to transfer the title using the Overdrive media console and in MTP mode and I get an error that says the format WMA audiobook is not compatible with my Sansa Clip

    Any suggestions?

    DB:3.50:Overdrive Audiobooks 98

Did you read the posts about using Overdrive library system? Do you have Windows Media Player version10or 11?

I asked the same question but had not tried MTP mode in the USB choices. Once I switched the USB mode to MTP, everything worked. Is your Clip the original or Clip+? There shouldn't be a problem since they are both listed on the Overdrive Media Console as acceptable. Here'sadvice from jj2me thathelped me:

"Re: Using Overdrive (library system) and audiobooks12-13-2011 07:26 AM - last edited on 12-13-2011 07:28 AM

I've never heard of this problem. A digital rights management error might occur if you didn't have Windows Media Player v9 or above installed, or didn't load with a program that ties into WMP9+ (like doing drag-and-drop directly to your player). But you've experienced a mix of good and bad--very odd.

The Clip/Fuze players are great with audiobooks. Did you do the following?

    1. Load audiobook onto player using PC's OverDrive Media Console program?

    2. Have WMP9+ installed (this secures the rights for the player, indirectly through a call to it by OverDrive Media Console)?

    3. During the OverDrive Transfer sequence, clicked on "Advanced Options..." and then ensure the book parts get put in \Audiobooks\... rather than the default location \Music\... ? (This ensures you get the great resume function, not only for the last listened-to audiobook like your Nano Plus does, but also if you leave and listen to other content, it'll remember your place in every audiobook and podcast.)

Step 3 has nothing to do with your problem, but it's what we all have to do to get the resume function.

Step 1 could also be accomplised by loading via WMP, but most don't do it that way (I've never tried)."

Maybe you need the WMP v.10+ to help secure the rights for the player. Another post mentioned I needed v. 10 or 11 and MTP mode to have the audiobook work properly.

    Dear 14124all,

you depicted perfectly what the problem is. And your diagnosis is somewhat I had thought too. In fact, when the plug is fully inserted either you don't hear anything or the sound starts skipping after few seconds (it was after one minute at the beginning).

But the problem is the player's plug or the earphone's jack?

How can I solve the problem? Should I return the player? It's a gift to my girlfriend who is from Malta (I'm from Rome) and since she's been waiting for this player for very long I would not like to return it since she's coming in few days and I have bought it two days ago... Can I solve by simply using another set of earphones

If there's no limit on the UK Clip that's awesome. How do you know? I thought it was a legal issue that applied to all European players. I've certainly read complaints about the volume cap on a number of players made by everyone from Apple to Sony. People always want to know how to hack their Euro players to remove the restriction, so why doesn't it apply to the Clip?

I had a 8GB sansa clip which has the latest firmware. I got to the point that I can't turn it ON. The only way I know how to turn it ON again doing the RESET (slide to ON and hold it for a minute). After a while, I figure out how to get my Sansa Clip into this problem.

    1. Plug my Sansa to my USB wall power adapter to charge it. The Sansa is OFF when I plug it and it will turn itself ON.

    2. Turn the Sansa OFF thinking that it will be re-charged quicker. The Sansa will be OFF.

    3. After a while, unplug the Sansa and turn it ON. It will not ON unless I do the RESET.

This seems to repeat every time.

Is this a feature or a bug? Anyone gets into this problem?

I bought abrand new SanDisk last week. I use it to listen to audiobooks I check out from the library. The library uses Overdrive. I can check out and transfer MP3 books but NOT the WMA books. The error messages I get talk about licenses and certificates and how I don't have them. BUT I have zero problem transferring these same books to my old Phillips MP3 player and they work perfectly.I have read a bunch of threads about MTPand MSC modes andswitchingdoesn't help. I have tried to transfer the books using OverDrive and Media Player. Neither worked. Bottom Line: Can my SanDisk Clip play theDRM WMAbooks or not? If not, I need to get my money back and I'll keep using the old Phillips. , $34.95 from Amazon.

This is just so strange because I havea 3 year old Philips MP3 player and the books transfer with no problem. AND BTW I have a service call #1519833. They were supposed to contact me this morning at 8.30 and I didn't get a call back.

I recently saw I had filled up all of my space on my 8gb sansa clip + and instead of trying to go through every single thing to see which songs I didn't want any more I deleted the entire music library, yet no space has been freed up! I also restored the thing to factory settings but no luck with that, Im trying to put music on it while using a mac if that helps at all. Only got about 80mb free for some strange reason

Not a Mac user but I believe you have to empty the Trash before disconnecting.

Factory settings is just language, etc. To clear it off via the unit go to Settings/System Settings/Format (you'll have to scroll past the first screen). Format will wipe off all user content.

I don't think it's a whim of windows, rather it's the presence and version of WMP installed. Not sure what Rhapsordy supports I dont' use either one for the clip. I know Linux uses MSC mode, not sure about the MAC or how either of those systems handle protected files.

Auto mode is a problem if you use more than one machine and it would have been better if Sansa had not included this mode.

After I plug the Clip into the computer and add audio books, I don't seem to be able to resume the audio book I was listening to before. When I go back to the book, it starts at 0 on all parts so unless I happen to remember where I was (which part and which minute/second), I have to search for a while to find my place

I am using Overdrive media console to add audio downloads from the library, and they are put in the music folder which is where I am accessing them. As long as I just pause and don't change the screen or add audio files, it resumes where I was when I paused it.

How can I always resume the audio book where I left off, even if I do something different with the Clip after pausing - like add additional books? (I'm looking for the "now playing" type feature that I have on my ipod.) thanks

    DB:3.21:Sansa Clip/Audio Book Resume-Place Question ks

Putting the audiobook into the Audiobook folder wasn't the answer, at least for me. I've now learned how to change the download location to the Audiobook folder when downloading books using Overdrive from the public library. However, I still lose my place every time I connect to the computer. In fact, I'm going back to allowing them to download into the Music folder. At least when they downloaded into that folder, I could manually write down my place (46/14) before I connected. Now that my books are in the Audiobooks folder, it always shows my place as being 1/1. I researched audiobook players for 6 months before I bought this one and am so disappointed with this technology. All I wanted was a player that could keep my place, doesn't seem that much to ask for. Between the way this one loses its place the impossible fastforwarding rewinding, I would never recommend this one to anyone. I just keep reading the same unresolved problems posted over and over again for years. I guess the real problem lies in the free audiobooks, hence the lack of interest in the audiobook listeners.

Fairly new with the clip, so any help would be appreciated. Downloaded an audiobook from Overdrive (via public library) then used Rhapsody to transmit to the clip. The book is sent to the music file as a .wma file and whenever you fast forward you get that annoying jump to the next next part without being able to FF to where you left off.Tech support said the problem was that I should had looked for an option in Overdrive to download the file as an .aa (I think I heard that right) file so the book could go into the audiofile folder. I can't seem to find such an option with overdrive. What am I doing wrong?? Getting rid of the FF problem would make this a great player I'd highly recommend to others.

You're going to need to use the updater at some point. It works best for me if I click on check now instead of leaving it automatic. I'm also looking forward to the overdrive fix. In the meantime, Audible works great with this.

If you reapply the latest firmware (see the firmware upgrade sticky thread in the forum, at the top) and change the .bin firmware file name that you apply to a non-radio version, that should disable your radio. See the thread below for the firmware file name to change to--seemingly, the "S" option will fit your needs.

Hi I am new to this forum and need help.

I have gone from loving my clip to being increasingly frustrated with it. I primarily use it to download audiobooks. I have never downloaded or used any software like Rhapsody. I have only ever used music I have ripped from my own cds on my own pc or books l have downloaded with overdrive from the library. Now I can play either none of the books I have downloaded from the library or only the first 2 segments at which point it will not play any of the rest of them but prompts me to sync to reset my subscription or most recently transfer title using audiobook software. I have had a 2GB clip for 18 months now. For 16 months no problems. I download lots of books from the library using overdrive and have played them with no issues. Over the last couple of months everything prompted me to download new versions of things from Overdrive software to clip firmware to internet explorer. Soon after doing all this I tried downloading a new book - no luck my clip was no longer recognized. For the next month I was able to listen to books already on the clip but not download anything else. I finally decided to do something about this and have tried pretty much every fix I could find with none of them working - here are most of the things I do know:

-I can sync to my pc - windows xp

-I have the firmware updater and on my clip it says that I have the firmware V01.01.32A

-My computer will recognize the clip as a MSC by simply plugging it in. I can force it in MTP to hook up - lock the power and hold down center button. But it won't recognize it a second time with out doing it again.

-I have done the windows media player security upgrade in overdrive.

-I have reformatted several times with the clip in both MTP and MSC and on the computer with the clip in both settings. But all times I continue to have the error message that I need to sync or transfer title

-I have gone into WMP11 and gone to Syncmore options privacy and made sure that "download usage rights automatically when I play or sync a file" is checked and it still won't let me listen once I download book fresh to overdrive and sync to clip.

-In both WMP11 and overdrives the properties say that they audiobooks are authorized to be synced to a device. Once I sync it the properties for the audiobook on the device say "protected content"

Can someone help me please!!! Shereen

I know it's been a while since this was posted, but i just experienced the same problem and have found a solution. You need to update the driver from Device Manager WHILE THE CLIP IS IN MTP MODE:

Put the Clip in MTP mode.

Connect it to the PC (the PC dosn't recognize it, that's OK)

    Open Device Manager

In Device Manager, you should find the Clip displayed as not working properly.

Right-click the Clip and select Update Driver

I just purchased the clip for the sole purpose of downloading audiobooks from my library through Overdrive Media Console. I can download the books and transfer to the clip but cannot get them out of the Music folder. Also, is there no way to bookmark when you have stopped reading for the day? Having a terrible time remembering where to restart and spend a lot of time fast forwarding through chapters.

How long does the rechargeable battery last? Not a charge, but the battery itself.

So far I have also only used my Clip for audiobooks. I've turned the radio on once and that was just to see if it worked. I currently have seven books loaded on it. I use the pause setting for my bookmarking and then let the Clip turn itself off. I turn it back on when I want to listen again and un-pause it and resume listening.

If you go to the Overdrive Media website, you'll find a listing of all their books. My library takes requests for their audiobook inventory, maybe yours will too.

    Hi,

it´s an op based amp (op 2134) like the Cmoy one. But I use a usb-wallpower thing ( I don´t know the right name in english) for both, charging the Sansa and drive the miniamp. Therefor the miniamp has a twin-USB-socket and a DC/DC changer "SIM1-0505"(don´t know the right english name). At theminiamp input is a 100 Ohm resistor and a 100 pF capacity to GND. To configer properly the C the Impedance was needed, because if theC is tohigh, the frequence range would go down. The resistor and the Capacity are good for defending against noise. Yeah, I like the miniamp, it works and sounds great, and I need to turn the volume control at the amp only a very little and the volume control at the Sansa just normal. The miniamp give about +66 dB.

DB:3.09:8gb Sansa Clip In 'The Case Of The Disappearing Songs' 39

Some USB info. that may help you here:

When your player is connected to your computer under USB MSC mode (set under the player's Settings/USB Mode), your computer only sees the files that had been transferred to the player when the player was connected under MSC mode. Likewise as to MTP mode. Regardless, all the files show up and are playable on your player, under whatever USB mode setting.

A good reason why some people prefer to set the USB Mode on their player to either MSC or MTP: on the Auto setting, the player tries to connect under MTP mode but then will fall back to MSC mode if the MTP connection does not work; the result being, you may have a mix of MSC and MTP mode transferred files on your player, making some of them not visible on your computer without switching to the other USB mode.

Because MSC mode is more universal (playing with a broader range of operating systems, including Linux and on Macs, and without a need for Windows Media Player on the computer), some people prefer MSC mode. However, note that DRM (digital rights management) files need MTP mode--they will not transfer sufficiently (the DRM license will not transfer) under MSC mode.

DB:3.08:Bought New Sansa Clip = Flashing Blue Ring Of Death? 7z

I agree with Marvin. The Clip+ is a much better player than the original. You've got a much sturdier clip that isn't breaking every time you turn around. You've got Folder Navigation (if that's important to you), FLAC OGG support out of the box AND it has a memry card slot giving you the potential of 40GB of music (8 internal + 32 card).

Plus, for now at least it is still supported by SanDisk. Should you have a problem you can call them up and speak directly to Tech Support to get the issue resolved. If it's defective, they replace it. And they'll take care of all this while you're on the phone with them.

Withthe original Clip, or any other discontinued (termed "legacy") player or product, there is no live or phone support. You have to e-mail them and wait for what can seem like an eternity for a response. With all the back forth, it could literally take weeks to get a problem resolved or unit replaced under warranty.

Yep, the Clip+ is the way to go!

I regularly play Overdrive audiobooks on my Sansa Clip and everything is well. Since bookmarking doesn't seem to work on my "new" (refurbished) E280 V1, is there a workaround without resorting to Rockbox? New firmware in the works, perhaps? DB:3.07:Small Program To Fix The Sansa Clip 8gb Slow Pitch Playing Bug. 3m

    Hi,

Recently I have purchased the Sansa Clip 8gb device. I have immediately noticed the slow speed playing pitch problem.

Since there is no firmware update available from Sandisk and I liked the device very much I did not want to return it.

I have created a small script that might help you guys to transcode all your MP3 files on the device to 48khz (this way the device plays

the songs in the right speed and pitch).

The script is very easy to operate, just plug your Sansa Clip and make sure it is accessible via MSC and you can browse the files at your PC then

    just run:

    X:\ SansaClipFix.exe FOLDER_TO_MP3_FILES ,

    for example: SansaClipFix.exe g:\audioable

The script is downloadable at: Script

    -=twee

DB:3.07:Small Program To Fix The Sansa Clip 8gb Slow Pitch Playing Bug. 3m

Considering the clip only uses ID3 tags (rather than file name) this may not be the best method for large collections.

The pitch issue only bugs me on a couple of songs so I'm more than happy to wait for sandisk to give us some new firmware, and like a lot (the majority?) of people here I LOVE my clips.

I put a number of cds on my Sansa Clip +. I doesn't work any more.

I have called Sansa support and they weren't much help.

I find the Sansa manual unusable.

Can anybody give me a detailed guide on how to put new music on the Sansa Clip+.

My version of the Windows Media Player doesn't look anything like the WMP pictures in the Sansa's guide.

For example, my WMP does not have "Library" at the top.

DB:3.06:I Need Help Putting Music On My Sansa Clip+ 89

Do note: your computer, in showing what is on the player, will only shows the files that were transferred to the player in the same USB mode that you now are connected under (MSC or MTP). Hence, a good reason to stick to one mode (and to avoid the Auto USB setting, that can switch between the 2 modes), set under the player's System settings. If you have files on the player transferred under both modes, you can switch to one mode, transfer the shown music to your computer (deleting it off the player), switch to the other USB mode, and transfer back.

Personally, I prefer MSC mode--it just works. But you may need MTP mode if you have DRM-protected files.

    Hope this helps.

I have two Sansa Clips+ and neither one of them is playing the audiobooks I get from Overdrive. I have:

    1. Upgraded to latest software

    2. Changed USB to MTP mode

    3. Downloaded the files into both Music and Audiobooks files

    4. Upgraded WMP security

Nothing I've read in these forums has help so far but maybe I missed something. Thanks

    DB:3.06:Overdrive Audiobooks Problem 89

The Clip plays .wma. It even plays the copy-protected .wma files you get from Overdrive. But with copy protection in any player, every setting has to be correct for it to work.

Copy protection is designed to cripple files. Hidden codes are sent through the (Overdrive) media console to un-cripple them. Maybe you'll have better luck with another player, but you are still going to have to make sure Overdrive is set correctly.

One purchase doesn't tell the entire story. When I first started dealing with Amazon, their free shipping was as fast or faster than the premium shipping options. As time went on, they have become slower and slower.

Once you deal with them on a daily basis as I do, you will understand their strengths and weaknesses. They are a good company, but not necessarily the quickest at shipping ...... all of the time.

They are no longer the "only game in town" and other companies are now doing a better job in shipment times.

when browsing the media library and seeing all my available music, there's a ton of... empty entries, which, when played, are actually duplicate songs. if i enqueue them to a playlist, they're listed as ?a=l=t=d=SanDisk%20Sansa%20Clip%2b; ... and when played changes to pmp58a3 and played the song. there's about ten of them at the begining of the playlist and they all play the same song. riddled through out the playlis, the "song" is often listed in that string of stuff. example:

    Tool -Schism

    would appear as...

    Tool - ?a=Tooll=Schismt=d=SanDisk%20Sansa%20Clip%2b

and again, several songs are repeated...

does anyone know why winamp is behaving this way with my clip+, or how i can fix it? everything else about my sansa is working normally. none of the files on the device are repeated and everything is laying and showing up normally on the device itself.

I've been downloading and listening to audiobooks from our public library for almost a year. My old Zen Nano Plus has no problems with these books. Since I just got a brand new Clip+, thought I'd try out audiobooks on it. The library has you download books in parts, usually 6-10 per book. I downloaded a book and listened to the first 2 parts. The next day, when I tried to listen to another section, nothing would play except the first 2 sections already heard. The other sections had a message about digital rights or something. I already erased the book so can't remember for sure. I'm wondering if this has happened to others?

I think I read something about Audible books having a problem. These are public library audiobooks, not listed as Audible. My Zen player never has a problem. Is this an issue peculiar to Clip+? I will just put books on my Zen and use the Clip+ for music. I had downloaded my audiobook into the audiobook folder, if that makes any difference. I thought about downloading again (still didn't help). Maybe if I listen to a bit of every section before turning it off, it would let me listen to all sections on different days?

Any suggestions for getting around this issue? Thanks

I just need an Clip+ user to confirm this size, because it doesn't sounds normal to me.

    My empty formatted Clip:http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/5508/clipx.jpg

    Later edit:

Shows 7548 MB total memory under menu = 7.37GB real memory under drive properties. That means 210MB should be the firmware.

On my old 8GB Clip:7807MB under menu= 7.62 GB real memory under drive properties, 62.5 MB used by firmware.

That means= 250 MB difference between the 2 Clips total drive size, and 150MB difference between firmware sizes (firmware size represent the used space for an formatted Clip, seen under drive properties).

    = The 8GB Clip+ has 400MB less than the old 8GB Clip.

    Also the 8GB size should be 8000MB = 7.81GB not 7548MB (7.37GB).

That's an 452 MB space stolen by Sandisk.

If we calculate the firmware we get ~550MB of space lost.

Ive been using Overdrive from my library for some time quite successfully once the audiobook firmware came out and I learned to change Music in the load pathway to Audiobooks.

Last night I loaded three Overdrive books by the same author and I have a mess! One book is by itself while the other two went into an Unknown File. When I opened that file the other two books are there BUT are all mixed up as in The Narrows Part 1, The Closers Part 1, The Narrows Part 2, The Closers Part 2 etc; they will not play in order and have to be changed manually which is a pain.

I finally figured out that this happened because author is in the load path and all three have the same author. How to fix? Does this also require a path change? To what?

Anybody that knows Overdrive have a suggestion for future reference? I won't be making changes to this mess because DRM won't allow but next time?

I don't think you can download again through the console even during the checkout period but as I said I was able to manipulate the files in my documents and at least now

I have the two books that were truly messed up separated.

I think my biggest mistake was doing all three books at once. Thanks to you and other booklovers I have some options to try.

I have a SanSa clip 2GB and I love it. I download free audiobooks from the library, but sometimes they jump ahead. I will be listening to chapter 3 then I am suddenly on chapter 15. I can "rewind" back and try to find the spot then go forward a bit and it will then play, but this makes me crazy. Is is the player or the book and how can I correct this? The books are WMA format and I download from the library to Overdrive media then transfer to the SanSa player.

It could be some of both. WMA files have their issues so one must be alert. I listen to these almost constantly on OverDrive and occasionally I get a bad file that will hiccup and

sometimes go back to the beginning of that part. Maybe too many downloads by too many people. If it is a really bad spot one has to skip it period sometimes. If your chapter mode is on and operating correctly this error really shouldn't happen very often even on WMA. If you are within the checkout period on your book you can reload a part or two and see if that helps. If this is happening on every book then there is a problem. My answer may be a bit vague but the reason is there is no real answer except that it should not happen often.

For what it's worth. I was at Costco a few days ago and saw the Clip-Zip 8gb for $59.

I hinted to my husband that Costco has a great price on it I have a birthday (not to mention the holidays) coming up. It didn't take. I think I'm still back to waiting for a refurb after some of my older ones die. It's not a "need" at the moment, and we're watching what we spend.
