In order to use the xBox 360 as an STB, you must have U-verse TV and U-verse internet.

You must supply your own Xbox 360 with hard drive.Your Xbox cannot be your only receiver; you must have a DVR or other receiver as a primary receiver. You must have U-verse TV and U-verse High Speed Internet.Professional installation and a hardware kit are required.

I just upgraded my U-verse service to all of the premium channels in HD but the picture quality is horrible. It freezes or has jitter half the time. I cancelled Comcast when their quality got bad like this. Is this what I can expect from U-verse HD? Or is ATT just going to say I need faster than a 12Mbps Internet connection? This is crap service.

kdeisher - The symptoms you describe indicate a fault in your connectivity that must be found and fixed for you to receive the same trouble free service that most of us experience.

This fault could be in your house wiring (as suggested by MT) or it could be a bad RG or it could be the outside wiring from the VRAD to your house. The only way to find out is to have att troubleshoot it.

The first step is to call in for a remote test. This may generate the shipping of a new RG or a dispatch of a tech to work on the outside wiring.

The consensus is that Uverse Elite will run consistently at ~5.7Mbs down. A 6Mbs service from cable usually varies greatly depending on the number of users in your immediate area. You start with 6Mbs but it can only go down from there.

I ordered both TV and internet. But when I connect the ethernet cable from the Comcast modem to my Airport Extreme, I'm not getting a wifi signal anymore. Airport Utility shows an orange light and that the internet connection is "Disconnected", and also shows the Airport Extreme with a green light and some IP addresses, serial number and version info, along with a few wireless clients listed. The Comcast cable technician was in a rush to get out of here. He connected the cable to the Motorola modem, checked that the TV did have a picture, tried and failed to get the Comcast remote control to work, complained that the folks back at the office weren't helping him, and got out of the house as soon as he could. The Comcast guy who called at 9:00 PM said they don't know anything about Apple equipment and that I should contact Apple for instructions.I did find some advice to perform a factory reset on the Airport Extreme. I did that. Plugged things back together, powered up and connected to the Comcast modem. Same problem.
Obviously, I don't know much about setting up a wifi network or getting this mess straightened out. Some help for "Dummies" would be terrific! Thanks very much.

Since my installation a little less than 2 months ago, my HD television tends to blank out intermittently but voice remains. I've tried using another HDMI cable and ATT even sent a new box. Still, my TV blanks out. However, if we play the games or use it for another purpose like watching television via internet/laptop, there is no problem. Beforehand, we hd dishnetwork and NEVER experienced any problems.

With the new box, I've changed the setting from 1080 to 720 to see if this helps, but I should not have to adjust the setting to a lower setting using HDMI cables.

Can anyone offer any suggestions or has anyone else experienced this problem?

(It seems as though U-verse is pretty cruddy at this point).

DB:3.12:U-Verse Hd Tv Blanks Out x9

Some posters have reported differences between HDMI inputs on their TV. If you have multiple inputs - try them all.

The best change to try is switching to component cables. The TV and STB may not be playing well together across the HDMI interface.

You do not need special cable to test it. Borrow any cables with RCA plugs. Just be careful to connect each end to the same jack. If you like it you can buy some cables.

    DB:3.12:Dvr Reboot z1

sebroberg - I like MTs suggestion of trying a known good connection. To me, that is a short cat5 cable plugged in to the RG. The cat5 cable is first tested with another STB. If that does not work you can call for another DVR.

Before you call, do a full reload. You will lose your recordings, but you will also lose them with the new DVR.

You must do this on the front panel of the DVR itself, not on the remote:

    1. Press and hold down the power button.
    2. Within 1 second, also press and hold down the OK and down arrow buttons.
    3. All 3 front panel lights (red, green, blue will come on). At this point, release the power button, but continue holding down OK and down arrow.
    4. When you see a gear appear on the screen, release OK and down arrow.

The system will reload the factory software from the network. This will take 20-30 minutes, and then the system will reboot.

    DB:3.10:Att U-Verse Volume/Power Not Working 8f

I've been a U-verse customer for several years now, but I've never been able to get my volume or my power button to work on the TV in my bedroom. I have four televisions that use U-verse in my house, and only one of them have power/volume buttons that work. The other three do not work and we are forced to rely on the original remotes that the television sets came with.

Recently, my original TV remote broke, so basically, I am unable to adjust my volume up and down, mute, or even power off my television completely (not just the ATT) unless I do it by hand.

Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? Ideally, I would like to program all of the ATT U-verse remotes in my house so that the volume up/down, mute, and power off buttons all work.

The TV in my room is an Insignia, and the other two TVs that I would also like to fix are Philips and Samsung Smart TV.

Any help would be appreciated... thanks.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    DB:3.10:Att U-Verse Volume/Power Not Working 8f

JM15 - There are instructions on the TV and the web site on how to program using codes or searching through all the codes. But, codes can be elusive require a great deal of fortitude to work through, with no guarantee of success.

On the other hand, for a mere $18 you can program all the TVs on the same remote by getting a refurb Logitech Harmony Model 300 from newegg.com.

I have recommended to many people that were unable to find codes to support their devices with the U-verse remote that they get a Logitech Harmony remote.

Many of those people feel they do not want to, or should not have to, spend their own money for a remote.

Others, have a very complex setup and are willing to spend their money to maximize their viewing experience.

The U-verse remote is effective for some subset of basic control functions on the most popular equipment, The Harmony provides full control of complex setups across a broader range of equipment.

Until sometime in 2011 the Harmony only offered expensive models (over $100). In 2011 they introduced the model 300 ($30) followed by the model 200 ($20). These only support one activity (Not many for a Harmony, but same as U-verse) - Watch TV.

This writeup shows that, even though the basic descriptions sound the same, there are functional advantages to the Harmony. The question is - Is it worth spending $$ for the Harmony.

Basic Similarity (Logitech Harmony Model 300 vs. U-verse remote) -

Both can control four devices (STB, TV, DVD, Aux) under one activity - Watch TV.

Logitech Harmony Model 300 advantages -

Must be able to do something no other remote can do to convince you to spend $30 to buy it so Logitech can make a profit.

Monster library of supported devices built on budget for expensive remotes (amazing how libraries grow over the years).

You can predetermine support of make model via web site (http://myremotesetup.com/EasyZapper/New/Main.asp?WebProcessAction=StartReturnUrl=%2FEasyZapper%2F%2E%2FNew%2FProcSpice%2Flanding%2EaspClassId=PrSpice%2EProcSpiceRelativePath=ProcSpice%2F).

Since device support is defined in detail, a Logitech customer service rep (CSR) can help with any problems. When anything new comes out it can be added to your existing remote via download.

To program - Enter device make model in computer based wizard. When device is supported, all functions are supported. IR signals can be learned from device remote.

IR/function/button map - You can map any button to any function. You can pick buttons based on your preference, instead of someone else's. Logitech can add any new IR code format to function mapping via download. CSR can download changes that affect only you,

Watch TV button -Turns on/off programmed devices.Sets correct input. Ability to sequence devices and introduce delay between devices.

Change from Watch TV mode to individual device control with one button push and vice-versa. Same volume/mute buttons will affect different devices (STB, TV, HT) depending on device selected and the one user selected for the Watch TV activity. Note that the U-verse phantom mute can be un-muted with four logical button pushes - device mode, STB, mute, return to watch TV mode.

Able to buy more advanced remotes for more money - Each step up adds more devices, more activities(e.g. Watch OTA, Watch DVD, Watch TV with HT sound), more display (LCD screen) of functions recharge-ablity .

Multiple activities appears to be a concept unique to the Logitech Harmony. It allows the same buttons to be programmed to different sets of inputs/functions/devices based on what the viewer is watching (i.e. an activity). The button map is unique to the activity. It can be as similar or different between activities/devices as you need it to be. Each activity has its own start up sequence to power up the selected devices set inputs needed for continuity. It is especially valuable for complex setups and/or people with only basic knowledge of the operation of the remote.

    *****************************************************************************************************

    U-verse remote limitations -

U-verse remote is provided free to watch U-verse TV. Support for some functions on some other devices is included so that it can be called "universal". But there is no business driver to spend money to assure full support of all functions on all possible devices .

Limited library of supported devices. Vague lists by type/mfgr. No model detail. No definitive/comprehensive list of codes. No "not supported" statement. If support is not accomplished, there is no way to find out if it should be supported until you find that the remote works for you. Since device support is not defined in detail, customer service rep cannot help with problems.

To program- Enter an arbitrary code that may be difficult (or impossible) to determine or step through every possible entry using the search method. Possibly finding some partially supported sets along the way. No IR learning.

IR/function/button map - Button/IR map cannot change (need new physical remote). IR/function map can only change if U-verse globally changes STB software. No ability to provide individual tuning.

Watch TV (ATT/power) - Turns on/off programmed devices. Does not set input. No ability to sequence devices or introduce delay.

Default mode of operation is Watch TV (Channel change on STB, Volume on TV, Power up STB/TV). To vary operation requires reprogramming with more arbitrary codes applied to individual functions. No clear distinction between Watch TV and individual device control (i.e. It is difficult to change operation between Watch TV and controlling individual devices by programming with codes.)

To clear phantom mute - att/ok - 955 - att - enter - mute - att/ok - 955 - tv - enter. 12 button pushes, where two are two finger. If you can remember how to do it.

Point anywhere remote is the only extra cost upgrade - provides RF (with STB pairing) and learning IR.

    *************************************************************************************

If you want a remote for each TV you can buy more. If you want to save the extra expense and can use one remote for everything you can buy and program just one. I have three different TVS on mine and two duplicates, so it can operate all the TVs/STBs in the house.

Can anyone tell me whether my situation is fixable? We recently switched to U-verse for our internet and TV. We used to watch movie from Amazon and Netflix with no problem. Now, over half the time the movie is unwatchable due to the download stalling. It will show 8-10 seconds of the show, then take 30 seconds to download more. THe ATT speed test tells me I am getting 17 mbps. How can this be? All of a sudden the Amazon feed is hosed? Seems more likely a problem with U-verse. Anyone got any idea if this can be fixed? Or do I need to switch back to Comcast??

DB:3.09:Terrible Performance Watching Movies From Amazon Netflix fj

Is your viewing device connecting to the Internet via an Ethernet cable or via WiFi?

Can you test using an Ethernet cable if WiFi?

A lot of issues with streaming come down to poor WiFi performance. ATT's RG's don't have the greatest WiFi implementation, but for me the stability of the connection between my home and the Internet more than makes up for that. I just purchased by own WiFi Router and set it up as an Access Point.

If it's not a WiFi issue, then maybe you're having line issues and need to get them looked at. You can check that out at http://192.168.1.254/ (go to the Broadband tab and look for Sync rates and error stats).

On top of that I do not want comcast. I would prefer U-verse. My DSL is aweful service. Everyday I see ATT vans on my road....so what are they doing? How do I get ATT to consider moving the service to more area's?? They would have more customer's and increase business. Isn't that what they want to do which is to be competitive and steal the market? With internet being the main focus on today's public you think corporate ATT would put more into taking over the market that is already there to take. So who do I contact to see about getting the U-verse TV and Internet to my street??

The first think I'd do would be to go to this page:

    http://www.att.com/u-verse/availability/index.jsp

and check availability. If not available, click on the "Notify Me" to get on the waiting list to be e-mailed/called when it is available; that will tell them of your interest. Then get your neighbors to do the same thing.

I can only address the TV part since we have one laptop.

You can have up to 8 TVs hooked up to UV. Your package includes ONE DVR and ONE STB. Above that, they are each $7 month.

You need to be aware that you are limited to 4 LIVE 'streams'. How many are SD and how many are HD will depend on your location. MOST customers are getting 4HD but some are limited to 3HD.

I countinue to have U-verse sales reps knock on my door to try to get me to switch from comcast for my TV and internet and come over t U-verse but I keep turning them down. My husband recently got a job with an ExclusiveATT Authorized Retailer and came home just raving about the service and how our internet speeds would be double that of our comcast and he talked me into doing because the current promo would be around what we are paying with comcast and we would be getting more with U-verse. We attempted today to sign up and when my info was procssed, it came back as a $449 non-refundable security deposit!!!!! Why on GODS green earth would I pay $449 to leave my current provider and then you tell me that it's non refundable. You call it a security deposit but that's a lie because I'm not getting it back at all, a security deposit means that it's to secure my service and then after a certuan period I would receive that dposit back. I am very disappointed in ATT that they would requiue such an expensive deposit and make it non-refundable plus I feel sorry for my husband to have to sell it, ATT should really look into changing their process because there are people out there like me that are tired of comcast but for $449 I would suffer with comcast then to switch to ATT

Hi @6wiggins. Welcome! Don't be a stranger on the forums.

What I would recommend that you do is to send a private message to the escalation team at ATT Customer Care, and someone will get in touch with you. They might be able to get that waived or set up something a bit more palatable. I sort of understand the need for a deposit with the RG/Modem and DVR's being a fairly expensive and apparently they have had some issues with folks not returning equipment.

I have several TVs and already was forced to get these"digital adapters" TWO YEARS AGO when the digital "transition" was announced so I could at least watch my favorite non-local broadcast channels. I took the "free" DTAs and decided I'd just live with the other TVs in my house getting the basic stuff out of the wall. NOW, two years later, I get a notice today that as of April 24, unless I give Comcast another $2/month per TV for a DTA, my television will become one giant paperweight. USELESS. I fork out a handsome sum each month as a Triple Play customer and still, they want more. Unbelievable. U-verse is starting to look better and better to me. Can't wait forall of the Comcast apologists out there to chime in about living with fewer TVs or to "get a life." This is NOT the kind of customer service that has kept me a Comcast customer all these years. It's simply and patently WRONG to do this.

DB:3.04:The Latest "Digital Transition" Has Rendered My Tvs Useless. 3c

For me, the bottom line is THIS: I will not dispute that these stupid little plastic boxes are necessary to decode digital signals for analog TVs. But I never ASKED for digital signals and I DO have analog TVs. Comcast said customers would be UNAFFECTED by the transition, and that's why I sat back when the decision was announced by the government and breathed a sigh of relief. During that time, I bought a small under-counter kitchen TV and a cheap flat-screen TV for my office, plugged in the coax cable from the wall, and voila. I got to watch a few local channels and was perfectly fine with that. I really don't care that Comcast is being benevolent by providing each customer with two free DTAs. They ALL should be free. This is a cost of doing business and if Comcast needs to recoup it, spread it out to EVERY ONE of its customers. It's just not right.

DB:3.04:Trying To Use Vonage With U-Verse Internet And 2wire Usb Adapter ax

Are you tryint to connect the Vonage TA (Telephone Adapter) to your U-verse connection? If so, then what you would need to do is find the WAN port on the back of the Vonage TA. Connect an ethernet cable into there. The other end will connect to the U-verse Gateway. It is the (usually) vertical boax with all the flashing lights at the front. Connect the other end of that ethernet cord to a free socket at the back in the section labeled Local Ethernet.

If I misunderstood what you were saying or if you have any more questions, let me know.

There is a possibility of having 18M and/or 24M internet slightly throttled if all four streams (2HD + 2SD) are in use, possibly taking up 18M (21M if 3HD + 1 SD), on a 35/2 profile that would leave only 17M (14M if 3 HD) for internet since TV has prioity over internet, but 17M (14M) would still be fast.

DB:3.02:Considering Swithcing To U-Verse From Comcast.. 7 Tvs ?? ad

I currently have Comcast Triple play in Elgin IL. I have 7 TVs in total.

3 HD DVRs, 3 HD Set Top Boxes, and 1 DTA for an SD TV in a guest room.

I also have internet service with approx 20 Mb down and 4 Mb upload speed, and 2 phone lines.. 1 for voice, and 1 for a fax machine.

I am generally satisfied with Comcast, except for the price. I am paying about $270/mo for these services. One benefit of Cable is that you are not limited to just a few HD steams. It is not uncommon to be recording 3 shows on the DVRs, and watching something different on about 5 of the TV sets.

I am considering a switch to U-Verse based on the price, but I am looking for some technical info.

My first question is with 7 TVs, what are the limitations for active HD streams? How many shows can be recorded or watched in the system?

My other need is to keep my current Netgear 750N router in the system.. at least as an access point. Is this possible? We often will have 5 or 6 devices connected to our wireless network. We seldom stream video, but email, facebook, some youtube etc…

Can someone address the technical limits of U-verse if you try to duplicate my current Comcast setup?

    Thanks!

You should not have had to cancel ATT DSL in the wake of having Uverse installed. If I recall correctly, all of the information given prior to my install was that my ATT DSL service would be transferred automatically to Uverse, so no action was required on my part. Since your DSL service was most probably transferred to Uverse, your call to cancel your internet service killed the Uverse internet as you were no longer a regular DSL customer.

I would call, explain the mistake and ask that your internet be re-enabled.

So what can I do to fix this problem so all 4 tvs can watch live tv at the same time?

DB:3.00:I Am A 4 Tv Family And We Cannot Watch 3 Televisions At One Time dz

A "stb" is a set-top box. Basically, the U-Verse box connected to your TV. We don't like to use the term "cable box" since U-Verse isn't cable.

You can tell that it's "sleeping" or "asleep" because the power light will be off. If you move the remote while turning it on or off, it may not get the signal to go to sleep. It took me a couple weeks to relearn how to turn it off, since I would typically be placing the remote on the table WHILE turning it off on my old system.

Channels between 1000 and 1999 are high definition channels. It may be that you cannot tune to four HD channels at the same time. Even if you are recording something, it still counts as being tuned to a channel.

If you are watching a show that was previously recorded, that does not count as a live TV stream...out of shows that you previously recorded, you can watch three of them on other TVs. If you are recording something and watching it at a previous point, that counts as a live TV stream. Say you want to watch a show on NBC that goes from 8pm to 10:01pm. If you record it and watch it from the beginning while it's recording, that will count as a live stream.

Now...here's a trick. If you're watching a particular channel on many different TVs at once, that only counts as one stream.

You may have to record shows during the overnight hours so that everyone can watch TV.

Do us a favor. On any TV, press menu. Scroll over to "options" then select "system options." Select "system information" then scroll over to "system resources." Where it says WAN, Ingress, and Egress Profile, let us know those SD/HD numbers. Also let us know your Bandwidth cap for WAN and Ingress. Those numbers may seem like random numbers to you, but they'll help us determine what you can/can't do.

And as already said, on TVs that aren't HD, when watching live TV, stay away from any channels between 1000 and 1999 until we determine what you can/can't do.

DB:2.98:Att U-Verse Ties With Directv To Top Acsi Report. 38

The part that's overlooked in that, and many other such surveys/lists, is how the "overbuilders" are perceived as better than the companies who strung the cable in the first place.

In the Midwest, WOW! Cable has consistently beat out Comcast, Time Warner and the other providers (like the old Insight in Ohio and RCN is Chicago) pretty much since they came into existence as Americast. And that was even after Comcast and Time Warner got off their behinds and started adding channels and delving into digital cable, faster internet speeds, and providing phone service.

Just playing with the numbers for fun:

Average between DBS, ATT and FiOS: 71.5% (2013), 68.25% (2014)

    Average of the old guard: 63% (2013), 59.75% (2014)

Obviously bigger is not always better, according to those sampled.

I have opened all the ports for the fax adaptor but the fax machine still stucks at a "line error" after a few rings.I have also tried tech supports of both Packet8 and U-verse but all they did was to make me go through every little, obvious things such as power-cycling everything, making sure the fax machine's baud rateis set to9600 and ECMis off, and using proper phonecables between the fax machine and adaptor, etc. etc., which led to nowhere. Does anyonehave insights on how to get VoIP fax to work with U-verse? Any help is greatly appreciated!

I think I figured it out.

First, put the adapter in to the DMZ. It can be the only device in the DMZ BTW there is room for only one.

Next - go to the firewall settings of the uverse modem. From here go to the Advanced Settings.

    Now you do the following:

Under Security clear all the boxes in that window. Click Save.

Under Attack Detection clear all the boxes in that window. Click Save.

    Reboot both boxes.

Thats it. Since I did this a week or so ago, the phone has rung and called out perfectly.

    Good luck!

Dropping down to a lower level service is also not a option as the selection would be so limited. Fortunately the whole house is wired so getting another carrier will not be a big deal. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rateAT Ta 7 (price, quality, selection). For what I am paying each month 7 out of 10 just does not cut it. Too bad really, since I have been fighting cancer the past 3 years television is one of my best distractions but I guess I can always read a book.

Just had U-verse installed today. I have 3 TVs (1 HD), 5 wireless computers and 1 Xbox. TV and phone service working great but not so sure about my internet service. I've run speed tests on 3 different sites and received the following scores with all computers and TVs turned off:

    2wire: 2.9 Mbps

    Speakeasy: 11.387 Mbps

    Speetest.net: 11.69 Mbps

I have the 12 Mbps service. Can any one explain the 2wire score?

At times during the day when all systems were running, I received speed scores near 1 Mbps or less.

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Greetings from Ohio! We've had ATT U-verse for about two months. Thus far we're very happy with all the features that are available to us. Here is my one problem that we we're having: being it springand going on summer here in Northwest Ohio, we're starting to get ran and thunderstorms. It seams when we have a storm of hard rainour U-verse TV starts to freeze and pixelate. In one case, we got the error message on all our TVs saying the connection has been lost. I contacted U-verse support while it was happening .While on the phone with U-verse support, the phone seamed to cut in and out as well. The support rep ran some tests on our lines and said she saw we were having problems too. Nevertheless a trouble call was placed and a tech arrived to our home. He ran tests while here and said he could't find anything wrong as everything was perfect with line signal and such. We again got another hard rain today and we again are were having problems with the TV. It's possible the phone was acting up too this time around but I didn't check. Anyways, the problem did not get solved and I'm wondering how I can fix this?

The interesting thing about all this is the Internet works just fine while the TV and phone act up. Because U-verse is IPTV based, I figured Internet would be acting up too but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Anyways, as soon as the rain/storm moves out of the area, the TV and phone start to work fine without issues.

Any advice would surely be appreciated.

kramsde2 - Sounds like there is a leak that is letting some connections get wet. att needs to find it seal it.

Probably the TV and voice portions of the signal are real time more sensitive to corruption. The internet is bursty may be easier to correct errors.

I have only U-Verse internet at the moment but soon will be installing U-Verse TV.

Does U-Verse TV slow down U-Verse internet at all?

There will be 2 wireless receiver installed and 1 standard receiver in the house for a total of 3 TV's.

Also, while shopping for U-Verse TV, I noticed that there is an option to add HD services for $10/month. If I didn't opt for HD, will this help not slow my U-Verse internet at all?

I live in a house with two dwelling units meaning there is a house in the front and another house in the back. We're deciding to install U-Verse TV in the front house ( tenants want TV ) and U-Verse internet in the back ( me ).

    Is this possible at all?

    Thanks!

Yes, nothing has changed, the gateway controls the tvs, hardwired or wireless...the only difference is without a dvr or HD fee, their viewing habits will not have a large impact on your internet service as only 3 streams at one time SD uses about 2M per stream (input) or 6M total.

On a basic tv installation, the install charge is $149, plus $49 for each wireless receiver, plus $49 tv activation fee or about $300 afterwards their portion of the bill should be ubasic $19, plus 2 receiver @$8 each plus $2.99 local tv fee plus taxes guess $40 a month.

    From fine print.. http://www.att.com/u-verse/explore/offer-details.jsp
U-basic: U-basic package available; includes local channels only. Installation Fee applies. Call for details.

As your the account holder, you will be billed these fees and will need to collect from them, to make sure everyone is aware....
$300 to get installed, plus prorated first month plus full next month expect need about $375 for first bill.

Ubasic is local changes only, no DVR included, a DVR can be leased for an additional $15 per month.

I talked to retentions department and they're going to waive the tv activation fee($49), installation fee($149), wireless receiver fees ($49), and even 1 year free rental for the wireless receivers.

I have to go with u-family because I can't get the tv-package premium channels with u-basic.

To avoid all this, can't I just change my account from residential/personal type to a small business/business account so that I can just get my u-verse internet installed even when theres already u-verse at this location. (2 uverse accounts, 1 personal/residential, and 1 business ).

Nope, it's there so error correction of TV packets can be made and the picture flows properly. Even if only an internet-only Uverse customer, you will be subject to it as it's part of the Uverse system. Many gamers post they have no problems w/interleaving and the added latency.

I am currently with DirecTV and have U-Verse internet. I am considering a switch to U-Verse TV. My question relates to cabling and if my setup will qualify for a "standard" U-verse install. Currently:

    1. I have a home run Cat-5 to my U-verse RG for internet. (left over from my prior attempt at U-verse TV)

    2. Cat-5 from RG to primaryTV DirecTV DVR

    3. 2nd TV Receiver has Coax going to Satellite

    3. Satellitehas a 2-way Coax split with one going to each of my 2 DirecTV recievers

    4. There is no wired connection from my RG to second TV reciever

I know I am all set for my DVR connection to primary TV, but question relates to the fact that my second TV does not have cabling to RG, just to the Satellite. Will they simply connect the 2 receivers via existing Coax (bypassing the satellite) or will the second TV need a new cable to RG ?

    DB:2.94:Cabling Question Directv To U-Verse Switch 1s

Aviewer, to continue your thought of one cable to accomplish the task at hand, pc needs 2 pairs.

Recommended wiring, NID to RG blue pair. Nid......current......tv1 location, requires straight thru.
For backfeed from new RG location, use orange and green pairs (common rj45 A wiring) RG......PC
For backfeed for Uverse VOIP, use brown pair RG....Phone

While this would work connection wise, any problems with service, tech is going to want to separate signals.

2nd tv either wireless receiver with WAP at RG or hardwired via existing coax using coupler.

For OP, how easy would it be to run new cat5 from NID to tv1 location (direct feed RG) and use existing cat5 as backfeed to pc, phone following abovewiring suggestion.

Using the remote control function on the ATT app was very convenient, and now that I don't have U-Verse Internet, that functionality is gone. I tried connecting one of the ATT gateway switch ports to a port on my internet router, thinking that as long as the receivers were on the same network as my phone/tablet, maybe it would work, but to no avail.

U-Verse Newbie here. I recently upgraded to U-Verse internet + Voice. I've had Directv since about 2000 and would like to bundle it, but that's a separate question. The current question is, since I have U-verse internet, is there a way I could view U-Verse TV on demand purchase movies? Or, does this require a U-Verse box and subscription, like my Directv?

    DB:2.94:U-Verse Internet + Phone - Can I Watch Movies On Demand? 9z

hey_ygbsm - There are many variations for accessing u-verse content. You are asking about a very specific group of content - on-demand. Three examples of how this is available are - 1) the original TV channel. 2) uverse, com via browser on computer 3) Smart phones and tablets.

My answer was based on you using your existing computer connection to watch via uverse.com. You can use any internet connection, which would include the COAX connection you mention, except that you would need an HPNA adapter. It is unlikely that would be a good choice.

I did not originally notice that you were asking about including Pay per view.I doubt that would be available, unless you had the TV service. equivalent on-line service would be along the lines netflix, hulu plus, or Amazon.

If you want to watch on a large TV you would need to connect the computer output to a TV directly.

    Hi there,

Just had U verse installed and am a little concerned about the speeds. I had comcast 6mbs internet plan and when ATT came knocking talking about 18mbs internet for less I thought I would give it a try. So far I have run multiple speedtests with speedtest.net and have never had speeds over 6mbs (with just TV on - no recordings and two wireless devices).

Then I started looking into UV Realtime and got the below results. I know U verse speeds are not straightforward so I'm looking for help understanding them. The only thing I seem to understand is red is not good...

I appreciate any help clarifying the results and letting me know if I am actually getting what I am paying for.

DB:2.94:New To Uverse, Need Help Understanding My Uv Realtime Results mp

It can be easier to cajole ATT into spending their tech's time to work on your line to improve your profile when you're expressing an interest in upgrading your HSIA to 24/3 (requiring that you have a good, working 32/5 profile). Otherwise they may want to hold out for a trip charge (typically $99) to compensate them for improving an non-optimal, but "already-working" connection.

Your connection is showing ECC errors which should not be happening, as well as a subtantial (but not exactly excessive) number of FEC's. IMHO (which I've always said will buy a $0.99 cup of coffee if you have four quarters to add to it), they should clean up your connection which should also enable them to upgrade your profile without inducement.

If you have U-verse Internet and TV, you should be able to call ATT and get your TV service cancelled. You will need to take your settop boxes to a UPS store and get them shipped back to ATT at no charge to you. They'll give you instructions and an authorization code for the shipment.

If you get an uncooperative CSR who doesn't want to do it, I'd suggest hanging up and calling back again.

From the gateway he ran Ethernet cord to my computer and then ran Ethernet into my livingroom(the next room over from the gateway) There he placed an outlet and then connected it to my television. At that time the only television I had was that TV in my livingroom. Now I would like to have u-verse TV in my bedroom. Currently there aren't any "outlets" as in for a telephone or coaxial cable in that room.

What kind of "outlet" or connections do I need? Will I need to run Ethernet all the way from the gateway to my bedroom? That is all the way across my home! If I add a phone outlet to the bedroom can I get service that way? I made the switch from Comcast, ATT DSL, and Bellsouth Voice about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I went with the whole package, U450 Television, single phone line, and 24Mbps internet service. My initial order would only allow 18Mbps internet as they indicated it wasn't supported in my area yet. After a few days and some advice from SomeJoe7777 I was able to get upgraded to the 24Mbps service. My home is approximately 1700 ft. from the VRAD. I have two televisions hooked up, one with a DVR. The HD picture is fabulous and perhaps a little crisper than what I got with Comcast. Thusfar, the service has been great. I haven't experienced any loss of signal or channels dropping out in the middle of a program as we did on a rather frequent basis with Comcast. I know there is a lot of discussion about internet speed, but I find that I get excellent results and tests indicate a wide variety of speeds, but all are in the 18-23 Mbps range. Where it really counts, downloading and uploading, I see a whopping difference over the 6M DSL plan that I had. Itunes music downloads occur exceptionally fast. Webcamming with the grandchild is much better on her end as our signal is so much faster.

Bottom line, if you're considering U-Verse do the research. Determine how far you are from the VRAD and that the distance will support the level of service that you are seeking.

I am so sorry to say based on my experience, the problem is not going to get better, I have had 22 different personnel (including the area manager and 3 of his managers) come to my residence to attempt to resolve my problems to no avail. It is at a status where my account has been flagged by the area manager, sothey will not send another person to respond to my call(s), and I have been advised to "seek another provider".

I must admit they have done everything within reason (i.e., without spending a lot of money to rewire the infrastructure) except find an alternative to the 2-wire RG as a backup to eliminate the possibility that it is the RG. Otherwise join the "just live with it" club. I have tried the 18Mbps a few times and ultimately went back to 3, very little difference and I have tried many tests (including traceroute http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traceroutewhich revealed there was an infrastructure problem), the best is always your experience when you perform realtime downloads and uploads. My service has been capped so it does not operate at the optimum speed, they claim it would cause more problems if they remove it as I am too close to the vrad.

One final thing, I was in the electronics biz 32 years, worked for DirecTV (telephony reported to me) and held various positions in satellite data broadcast center (sdbc) companies including being the Director of Operations at a sbdc; I also have used ComCast, ATT, TimeWarner and DirecTV, unfortunately, they all have problems of some sort...

    Hi,

The tenant currently living there have ATT U-Verse Digital TV but don't have ATT U-Verse Internet service. They have Sprint Clear internet service. As far I know, they don't have comcast, dsl, u-verse internet. Clear Sprint internet doesn't use home phone line at all. I do want to mention that we have our own phone line which isn't being used by current tenants.

I understand that there can only be one u-verse account per address but can this be an exception for a long-term OG ATT customer since U-Verse launched and before that, we had ATT DSL? I mean there will be two ATT accounts at one addres but both accounts will have different services. One account will have ATT U-Verse internet and the other account will have U-Verse TV.

It would be unfortunate that this was not possible but this will leave me as a unsatisfied and leave me no choice but cancel my U-verse account. I've been an ATT U-Verse customer since 2009 and a DSL customer before U-Verse was launched.

Suggestions on how I can deal with this would be appreciated!

It never was a problem w/ATT/Yahoo DSL and I don't expect it to happen w/Uverse. There always was a 'gigantic' connection to the internet backbone at the CO and the transport from the VRAD to the CO 'gigantic' connection on fiber is not going to cause any problems. Uverse is IPTV over VDSL. All the connections are 'shared' at that 'gigantic connection" at the CO, but unless everybody is downloading at the max rate at the same time, we'll never see problems.

I'm just curious.. Where's it coming through? Thanks!

DB:2.91:How Does U-Verse Work? Cable? Phone Line? j7

Amen, FTJ. That's pretty much exactly how our home is set up. The fiber optic cable feeds the big VRAD box somewhere in the neighborhood......in our case about 2100 ft. away from our house.....then from that box the signal is carried on phone line to the house. In our installation coax takes over at the house entry point (the NID) and the rest of our system is via coax to the residential gateway (RG) and from the RG to two of our TV's. The RG is in our computer room so the desktop is fed via ethernet cable and so is the 3rd TV which is located in that room. Kind of a wild mixture but it works.....very well in our case.

Well, today was another day with no tv or internet thanks to U-Verse. This is the third major outage I have had in the seven weeks since I got U-Verse. The first outage was 36 hours. Second was 24 hours. This one was 8 hours. This time the ATT tech replaced the RG and replaced all the electronics inside theNID and replaced the diplexer.

Two weeks as a U-Verse customer, and I have already learned first hand the "wonders" of ATT customer service. All U-verse services are out (phone, Internet, TV) and the only way to fix it is for me to take ANOTHER day off work!!!! Comcast was never this bad!!!

Anyway, how can I watch the recorded shows on my Total Home DVR, even though there is no service to the unit? All that I see is an orange screen with "ATT" on it. It makes NO SENSE whatsoever, that watching recorded shows requiresa signal.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Connecting a 4-port HDMI switch (w/ remote) helps as well.... Only feature that would come in handy would be a component vs HDMI switch. I experience intermittent metallic audio with HDMI connections and every ATT service tech mentions the HDMI out on the Motorola boxes have issues with some TV Mfgs; solution = component connections.

    Hello,

I am new to u-verse and signed up for the 18Mbps package with tv. I am coming from Comcast where I recieved 1.8Mbps easily. On speedtest.net, my speeds now range from 4Mbps-12Mbps and probably average in between. This is very dissapointing as I am paying for the 18Mbps package and not getting anywhere close to that.

Also, the image quality on HD feeds is lackluster. On slow moving scenes it looks fine, but any sports with alot of action on the field/court becomes pixelated and hard to watch. The picture is no longer cutting in and out, but the image quality is lacking. It is not my tv because I had 0 issues on image quality with Comcast. I am also dissapointed in the advertising of recording 4 channels at once but was blindsided by only 2 HD channels and 2 SD. I don't watch SD so this is still not an improvement over Comcast.

Are these things I am just supposed to live with? I was expecting an improvement over Comcast but now am beginning to regret my decision. About the only thing that has improved is the menu interface.

I installed U-Verse Realtime and here are my image results, any suggestions, comments, etc. are much appreciated! I really want to love U-verse but so far am dissapointed.

FYI this comes from their terms of service documentation.

OTHER TERMS: "Up to" speed claim(s) represent maximum downstream and/or upstream speed capabilities. Many factors can affect actual speeds, which will vary and are not guaranteed. In order to enhance reliability and consistency of performance, some lines may be provisioned at less than the maximum speed capability but within the range of speed purchased.

Being an ex-U-Verse customer and now a customer of Comcast Xfinity due to a move, our household REALLY wants to know what we can do to help bring U-Verse to our location. We dislike Comcast so much that we'd go door-to-door to get a competitor here and particularly for U-Verse.

Please understand, I've despised ATT for years and compete directly with your company in my work life in some respects. But I have enormous respect for the technical presentation of your U-Verse product, the model, and the features. This aspect of your company's product mix really is extremely well presented when it is in the right environment technically (cable loop length quality).

I'm sure you have all of the issues one would expect with "DSL" implementations due to the nature of U-Verse vs. cable technically, but as someone having used each product in the past 12 months it is a hands-down win for U-Verse with regard to features, usability, integration and just overall complete product to company alignment. We left one cable company (Brighthouse) previously to try U-Verse and it was a huge step up. Then moved to Comcast and all the fatter pipe in the world doesn't make up for poor TV service on slow equipment with limited features and advertising jammed into every square inch of every device you ever touch.

So please, if you want us to help you come to our neighborhood, tell us what you need. I'll let you run cable or drop equipment in our lawn, I'll put shrink wrap on my car that says U-Verse, just tell me what you momentum you need to see or technical issue that exists and I'll make sure that the numbers add up.

    DB:2.90:Bundles mm

We do actually. If you don't have any of the services at all, we can usually set up you with a bundle package of tv, internet and phone, which you can customize anyway you like, and set you up with a nice promotion that lasts for 2 years. By having a cell phone as a part of it, we can usually give you an additional discount, but would need to get you in contact with our cell phone customer care to discuss wireless plans. If you happen to already have wireless service with us, we can still set you up with a nice bundle and still give you the additional discount for having wireless service, which we have to verify.

I live in a duplex but we share one house address and tenants want tv and we want internet. Will doing this prevent TV from slowing down the internet or am I still sharing bandwidth even if installed seperately meaning cables, wires or whatever from TV are not plugged in my 2wire gateway/router.

DB:2.89:Can U-Verse Tv And U-Verse Internet Installed Separately Under One Uverse Account? x9

Without a different router, requiring a different address, the internet gateway will be connected to the tv receivers, common bandwjidth shared, tvs have priority. Internet gets what is left, if doing this recommend choosing low internet speed Pro (3/1) or Elite (6/1), else expect problems with someones wants not being met.

I would switch interenet providers because ATT would be cheaper, but I need Time Warner because unfortunately my business emails are through them.

I'll agree with that, however it is not ATT or Time Warner who are putting these restrictions in place -- it's the PROGRAMMERS themselves.

I don't really see the big deal, either, in that by paying for cable -- however you describe it, over whatever provider -- ESPN gets their share, Viacom gets their share, your local OTA channels get their share ... everyone gets paid when you pass the cash. So it really shouldn't make a difference if your TV provider is different from your internet provider.

I keep hearing through the rumormill that U-verse is moving out to colorado, but I couldn't find anything. I just moved here from KC and had U-verse there and it worked out great. Comcast is the only one that has high speed internet and TV, which I sadly had to sign up for three days ago. Without going into detail, I've already been on the support line with them 3 times, and I haven't even moved into my apartment yet. The only other option I have is Century Link. The fastest internet they offer downtown is only advertised at 5mb, and they have a reputation for not living up to advertised speeds. So at what I'm assuming is realistically 3mb and they don't have any TV service, thats not really even a comparable option either.

Is there any truth to the rumors of U-verse coming this way? It hasn't taken me very long to figure out that theres a lot of discontent in the market out here and a lot of people would switch to any provider that could offer decent internet and TV packages and even cared a little bit about their customers.

PS Sorry if this is the wrong section, newbie poster.

    DB:2.88:Service In Denver? 3z

First, current ATT is actually SW Bell, which bought PacTel, Ameritech, SNET, and Southern Bell, then bought the right to the ATT name in mid 2000s... As such they only own the infrastructure in those states.... Other such as CenturyLink bought out remaining parts of other states. So as new ATT would not expect a hard lined solution such as Uverse but may have access to the mobility product for faster internet....

From reports that I have read from this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, it appears that 3d televisions could be a thing of the past. One of the reasons given was the uncomfortable 3D glasses that one had to wear to see the feature according to an article in usatoday.com. However, it apprears that not all television manufacturers are giving up on the feature at this time.

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/columnist/baig/2014/01/09/ces-2014-baig-wrapup/4394957/

The current WOW thing is the 4K high definition television. Quoting from thewire.com "A 4K high definition picture has twice the horizontal and vertical resolution of the current high-definition standard (1080p) and about four times as many pixels, which sounds great, but there are some problems. 4K may not improve the picture for TVs under 50 inches, and right now there's little-to-no content available in 4K HD. YouTube streaming in 4K is about the only available option for normals, but again few of the videos being shot actually live up to that standard."

The article said that Vizio is getting out of the manufacturing of 3D televisions.

I think when ESPN killed their 3D channel that was the nail in the coffin as far as 3D goes, it too exspensive to produce and most people dont want to wear accessories to watch TV. I think its all about UHD (4K) now which is great because as they transition into that it will put pressure to have all existing channel is HD.

    DB:2.87:U-Verse Internet Connectivity Issues xa

If no issues with IPTV or voip services, just wifi connection....
    1) how is signal strength on device, strong ok, weak need to move RG to more central location for better coverage or add AP (purchased) to extend range.
If weak signal next or very close to RG, may need RG replaced.

    2) more common in MDU apartment, condo, close housing is wireless interference. ..
use an app like Wifi Analyzer or inSSIDer to look for congestion, less used channels are better.
If very bad congestion need to look at separate purchase dual band router for 5ghz as all uverse RGs are 2.4ghz.
