    Hi,

I have two routers connected to my LAN via switch, only one router can ping the other router.

    Scenario:

Router A: is an internet router

Router B: 2nd router connected to the same network

Router A is the only one can ping router B but router B cannot ping the router A.

note they have the same subnet mask = 255.255.255.0

please can you help on this..

    Hi Weslin,

Thank you for your response on my query, can i have a questions on your comments:

    1. Your Comment: If you can change the 192.168.0.x/24 to

a different subnet such as 192.168.1.x/24.

Question: Where will i assign these values? Anyway on my router B this is pointing to our warehouse and also on that router it has an ip address 192.168.1.x with a subnet 255.255.255.0. Does this settings may conflict or not?

    2. Your Comment: Or, you can add "ip subnet-zero" in both routers' configuration.

Question: How can i add it, and where will i put it on what interface? Could elaborate on this..

    3. Your Comment: The addresses in the NAT pool test are subnet zero addresses. The ping to the device fails because no translation occurs.

Please explain all of this since you saw my configuration on both routers A B.

    Thanks,

    Arthur

    Hello,

I just installed a 6509 running ios. This 6509 connections two server irons (Foundry, switch like). On the 6509 I have multiple servers connected to it. I can ping all my networks but one. 10.7.1.x/24 (from these servers connected to the 6509). I can ping the router interface 10.7.1.254, but I cannot ping anything else. This only happens when I'm on a server on the 10.4.x.x/16 network. From the 6509 I can ping anything on the 10.7.1.x network. Any ideas why

    Thanks so much.

This problem may stem from an OSPF issue. Can you verify that your OSPF process is working. I see no area 0 in your configuration. I hope you have an area 0 in your configuration because you need it. Do a show ip route and verify your subnet routes are all there.

    Hi

We got two routers running HSRP, and they are connected to two switches.

The two routers cant ping each other, and the switches can only ping the virtual IP and the master router. 'show standby' shows they did not detect their neighbors.

until we add 'standby use-bia', then everything is ok.

anyone has the same experience before?

I found out the root of MST0, where vlan 1 belongs to, was on a bridging router connected to a edge switch. After we change the MST0 root to the two core switches, the problem disappeared.

I dont know how to explain, since HSRP is not using VLAN1 to exchange information.

It seems there is no proper communication between r1 and r2. by mistake I have enabled ip nat translation max-entries vfc so that I got packet drops . I have a Cisco 2600 router with two FETHERs. 0/0 is connected to a closed network and 0/1 is connected to our regular corporate network. I have setup a firewall PC between the closed network and the corporate network. When I connect the firewall PC directly to the switch of our corporate network, I am able to browse the Internet. When I place the router between the firewall and the corporate network, in the same port, from the firewall I can no longer browse the Internet. From the router, I am able to ping both the firewall, which is directly connected, and the VLAN gateway, which is also directly connected. I am also able to ping just about anywhere else on the corporate network to include out to the Internet. However, when the firewall pings, it is only able to ping to the far-side of the router. It can't even ping the next hop which is the VLAN gateway on the switch. I have added a route to the outside on the router but whenever I do a traceroute from the firewall, it always ends on the near-side router interface. I have also added a gateway of last resort which is pointing to the far-side interface. Can anyone tell me what I am missing? I have an RV042 (firmware 1.3.9) sitting on LAN side between two Adtrans routers (ATM, 1024kb) and my firewall (WatchGuard-700). Only want to use RV042 for load-balancing. RV042 is config with private 192.168.100.x address and forwardsall ports to FW (192.168.100.x), MTU = 1200. Before I put the RV042 between ISP router and FW, VPN was working fine. With RV042 in middle RDP works fine and VPN connects but cannot map network drives or ping network hosts by eitherIP or name. Any ideas?

DB:3.37:Cannot Ping Network When Vpn Shows Connected 78

Right! Well, since I'm only using the RV042 for load balancing between two primary routers and I'm forwarding all ports with the firewall feature disabled, I was running out of Schlitz trying to figure out why I couldn't map a drive or ping into my network after VPN authentication. Under the theory of "why not - can't hurt" I went into UPnP forwarding and pointed port 1723 (PPTP) to my firewall IP. One of our folks on the road wanted to get in, so gave them one of our public IPs and they got in fine - went home and was able to do same. So, only mod I made was the UPnP entry - works but does not make sense why. May have something to do with the fact that I have the RV042 sitting behind two routers. Got to think about this one.

    Hi,

I gone through ur problem.May be u can try to do a throughput test with software called iperf. It is a windows based software which will have server and client connection between both laptops. You can try to test the throughput test either via TCP sessions or UDP sessions. It will give you exact throughput of the WAN link.Since with FTP it doesnt chokes the full bandwidth and u will not be able to get the proper throughput of the WAN link.

Try to search this iperf software on microsoft site.

Look at the routing. Asymmetrical routing could cause this difference. That is, packets going from one point to the other may not return over the same path. And different paths mean different latency.

I recently moved my router into my basement, but the printer did print from the wireless network when I did that.

It is a 6500 E710n printer. I use a Linksys wireless router in my network (in conjuction with a Motorola cable modem/router). My setup worked until a few days ago with this printer. All of the computers and game systemsstill connect and work fine with the router. I didn't change anything in my network configuration, but my printer started to only print from a computer connected to it via a USB port. And, I did moved my wireless router and cable modem router to my basement. My printer is on the floor above the basement. The printer did work fine after that move for a few days. The Linksys detects the printer when it is connected and when it is not (power cycle the printer watch Linksys connection status). The 3550-12G is connected to FE0/0 as a trunked link.

The router can ping the switch and vice versa, the equipment connected to the NM-16ESW cannot ping either the router or 3550.

Devices connected to the NM-16ESW can ping each other.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

    DB:3.33:Etherswitch Vtp md

Just a minor correction to me last posting: I have just read that if you turn a 16ESW switchport into a routed interface by adding an ip address and doing no switchport, then you cannot add subinterfaces to it.

    http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/473/etherswitch_FAQ.html#qa15

I guess that was obvious if I think about it. When you are doing sub-interfaces to represent VLANs, you usually leave the ip address off the physical interface.

I guess what they are saying here is: yes, you can use a phsyical interface of a 16ESW as a routed interface, but it does not support 802.1Q in that mode. If you want it to be a trunk, you have to use it as a switchport.

I have two FVS318v3's - both setup to connect to each other for a persistent VPN connection. I have two static IP's from Comcast ISP.

Until until yesterday, the VPN's have been connected and working great for almost a year with only needing about 4 restarts to reconnect. Now, yesterday, it's like nothing wants to work at all.

Router #1 uses the LAN IP of 192.168.3.x

Router #2 uses the LAN IP of 192.168.0.x

On router #1 (since it's connecting to Router #2), in the IPSec Connection Status (under VPN Status), I see: Phase 1: M-ESTABLISHED / Phase 2: ESTABLISHED. Ok. Sounds normal. Vice Versa for router #2 too.

However, from Router #1 to Router #2, when I ping (using the router diagnostics), I just get:

    PING 192.168.0.250: 56 data bytes

no answer from 192.168.0.250 (this is a server behind Router #2)

So, if the connection is established and appears to be working - why can't I ping any computer from Router #1 to Router #2 (and vice versa). The routers say they are connected, but when you try network activities, it's as if they are not connected at all.

I double checked the VPN settings, pre-shared key, ...everything. Even re-created the VPN's and reconnected them....but still nothing.

What do you think could be going on here?

Thank you advance for your replies.

I bought a Canon Pixma MP620, which has wireless networking capability. I have the printer networked to two Macs through a Netgear WGR641 (v4) router. I have been able to get the printer to work wirelessly from the router. However, the printer works only when the Macs are hooked up to the router via ethernet. If the Macs are connected only wirelessly to the router, I cannot print to the (wirelessly connected) printer.

Here's another way to show the layout in case the above is not clear:

Scenario 1: [Printer] wireless to [Router] wired to [2 Macs] = works!
Scenario 2: [Printer] wireless to [Router] wireless to [2 Macs] = fails!

    Some additional info:

-- I can ping the printer wirelessly from the Macs only when the Macs are wired to the router; if Macs are wireless to the router, I can't ping the printer.
-- Even when the Macs are wireless to the router, I can ping one Mac to the other (and vice versa).
-- When the Macs are wireless to the router, I get access to the internet.

-- I do not have the router set to accept connections from only specified MAC addresses.

Does anyone have a suggestion for getting this to work so that the Macs can be connected wirelessly to the router and still print to the wireless printer?

    Thanks in advance.

    DB:3.27:Wireless Printer Issue 1z

-- I have my firewall turned off on both Macs.
-- I am using WPA encryption.
-- I do not have the router set to accept connections from only specified MAC addresses.

Does anyone have a suggestion for getting this to work so that the Macs can be connected wirelessly to the router and still print to the wireless printer?

    Hi,

we have some issues with the UC550 connecting itself to an accesspoint via CCA from a router. The connection works fine and calls can be made, it's just the connection for while administering the UC540.

    Setup (only relevant parts):

    --- wan --- router if1 | [192.168.10.200] | --- UC500 fe1

                       if2 | [10.1.1.200]     | --- UC500 fe2

In words: two interfaces of our router which have each an IP of UC's subnets, are connected to tweo interfaces of the UC.

I can ping the UC (192.168.10.1 and 10.1.1.1), I can connect to it from the laptop/router and I can ping devices within those subnets from the UC but not from my laptop or router.

Also, when I connect via CCA to the UC it finds the Accesspoint (10.1.1.202) but it can't connect itself to it, so I can't add it to the site for example.

I can't get it to work, could anyone please help me with this?

    Thanks

DB:3.26:Pinging Cisco 761 Isdn Router Over Wan 7j

    Hello,

I have 2 sites connected to each other via a non-Cisco VPN.

    Site A

    VPN router: 10.254.254.1

    Cisco 761 ISDN router: 10.254.254.70

    Site B

    VPN router: 192.168.1.1

I can ping all PC's/printers in site B from site A and vice versa.

Only the Cisco 761 won't reply when I do a ping from site B.

(It will however respond on a ping from within site A)

The 761 probably does receive the "ping" but does not response accordingly.

Within the router telnet-session I can ping site A but not site B.

So I have made a routing:

set ip route dest 192.168.1.0/24 gate 10.254.254.1

    but I still can't ping site B.

Could anyone give me some insights how to get this Cisco 761 to reply over my WAN?

    TIA, Jem.

DB:3.26:Pinging Cisco 761 Isdn Router Over Wan 7j

There could be a couple of issues. One is that you are not allowing the ISDN routers IP address to use the VPN tunnel, or two that your site B doesn't actually know where the ISDN router is. Try doing some traceroutes from B to the ISDN router and from the ISDN router to B. See where the traceroute stops and that will help you determine which side is having the routing problem.

Please help me regarding sa ping when playing online game like Heroes of Newerth.

I always encounter high ping almost 300, I am the only person in the game that has a high ping like that so I can say that there is no problem in the game server. I checked my ping in speedtest and it has only 50 ping.

Can you suggest/help why this high ping occurs? I am the only one connected to my internet, tried to disabled wifi to check if my sibling are downloading some stuff, but ping 300 doesn't go down.

DB:3.25:High Ping Of Internet In Online Game ax

Reasons for getting high ping value.

1.High ping is when there is high traffic in your system.

2.This can be either caused by loading such large files that the system cannot handle them, or by running several programs at the same time.

3.High ping is not just due to the bad internet connection. video lag, sound lag, virus, spyware, worms, or so on, could cause the high ping. not enough Ram could cause the problem too.

If you get any high ping ,try to lower your ping rate by using some of the following instructions.

1.Don't open any videos, stream and check if there any problem in your router.

2.Make sure there's no browser .exe's still running in task manager

3.Try to contact your internet service provider and get suitable data plan.

4.Use any software like Game Booster

    5.Move closer to server

I am sure,if you follow the rules, you will get chance to reduce your ping rate. Finally you can check your new ping using WhoisXY.com

One switch has 16 phones plugged into it and the other is not being used for phones, only computers and printers. Management VLAN is the same as the computer VLAN. The second switch is directly connected to port 23 of the first switch. The first switch has port 24 connected to a 2801 router which is terminating a DMVPN.

When I ping the second switch from a computer that is directly connected to this same switch, the response times vary from 1ms to 70 ms. When I ping the other CE 500 from this same computer it responds in the same way 1ms to 70 ms. When I ping the 2801 router which is the gateway for both switches and the computer, it responds at 1ms every time.

Why would the CE 500s respond so erratically to a ping from a device directly connected on the same subnet?

    Hi Jeet,

You problem may be that you need to use a crossover cable to connect a PC directly into a router.

Or you can connect the PC to a switch with a straight-through cable and the router to the same switch with a straight-through cable.

    Steven,

Have you watched the logs on the ASA to see if the ICMP echo even comes in from the router side of the tunnel?

On a side note, I would recommend removing some of your less secure ISAKMP policies (130, 140, and 150).  I would also remove the ISAKMP policies that you know will never be used.

When I trace route to send packet from Router C 10.30.0.0 network to Router A 10.1.0.1 network, the packet from Router C LAN (10.30.0.0) sends to Router B serial0/1 (172.16.1.11) but can't proceed to re-route to Router A serial0 (192.168.254.1).

My question is: Why Router B fails to ping serial0/0 192.168.254.2 itself? I even tried to remove the firewall but to no avail. Funny thing is Router B 10.20.0.0 network has no problem to access SAP at Router A 10.1.0.0 network. Any suggestion, please?

Thanks for all your suggestions. Guess what? Router A and Router B are using Frame Relay. According to Cisco engineer, you can't ping Frame Relay interface. But I still don't quite understand why Router A can ping itself even though the serial interface is also connecting to Frame Relay.

I have 2 offices that are connected together through 2 of these VPN routers.  Both routers are online and connected to each other however I am having problems seeing PC's on each network.  For example, from site 1, I can ping the VPN router IP of 192.168.50.2 but cannot ping any PC's on the 192.168.50.x network.  And vice versa.  However from the site 1 VPN router itself in the management console I can ping all PC's on the 192.168.50.x network.

    Connection:

    Router device IP 192.168.1.2

From a PC on this side I can only ping site # 2's router.  No other PC will ping

    Hi there:
I'm trying to set up an ESS in following steps:
    1) To one computer(say ComputerA), i have connected my D-Link Router+Access point(802.11G standard) through a LAN cable. In this computer, i ping the IP address of connected AP+Router that is 192.168.0.1 and the ping is successful.
    2) To 2nd computer(say ComputerB), i have connected my LinkSys Access point through another LAN cable. In this computer, i ping the IP address of connected LinkSys AP that is 192.168.0.200 and the ping is successful.
    3) In the default gateway of 2nd computer, i have entered the IP address of the router.

    4) Problem is when i ping the IP address of AP+router(that is connected to computerA) from computerB, the ping is not successful. Also when i ping the access point connected to computerB from computerA, the ping again times out.

So the AP connected to computerA is not detecting the AP connected to computerB and vice versa. Isn't the router in wireless router+AP supposed to connect the two access points automatically to make an ESS. Please note that SSIDs and channels are distributed in both APs.

    I'm a beginner, please help.

Doing no change at all else than going back to 12.4(15)T9 again, everything is normal once more...

To me it seems like AnyConnect on anything newer than 12.4(15)T9 does not work very well... Is there anyone out there running AnyConnect SSL successfully on the new 15.x versions?

    Hi everyone,

I currently have 2 e4200 wireless routers. The first router is connected to 3 devices via ethernet, and the 4th port is connected to my other e4200v2 which is set as bridge mode. The main router is at one end of the house, the second bridge mode router is at the other end.

My wireless devices are connected to the main e4200v2, along with all the wired clients.

Here is the problem: When wirelessly connected to the 2nd e4200 (the bridged one) I cannot connect to or ping any wireless clients that are connected to the main router. (For example, in my bedroom I am connected with my computer to the 2nd bridged router, and I am trying to ping my other computer that is wireless connected to the main router. I am unable to ping to this computer. When I am conected wirelessIy to the mian router, than I am able to ping the other wireless computer on the same router. Note:I am able to access any hard wired devices to the main router, regardless of which router I am connected to. The issue only appears to be when trying to connect to a wireless device that is connected to a different router than the device I am connecting from.

Both routers are setup on the same subnet mask with firmware Ver.2.1.39.145204

Any suggestions or help is much appreciated, as I've been trying to figure this out for days.

I bought a brand new router DG834G V4 around a month ago. It was working fine without any problems for the first 2 weeks.

After a while it started happening that the router goes Limited connectivity only to my desktop which is connected via lan.

While when i check my router which is connected with wlan it's working just fine. Could browse pages, open router admin panel ping it. Everything is just fine there.

Only way to fix that problem is by rebooting the router, i tried rebooting pc, changing cables, changing lan IP from static to dynamic and finally updating the firmware to V5.01.09. Only thing that fixes it is rebooting the router itself.

It started happening a lot more often lately, which is getting quite annoying.

Is there anything I can do? Would reseting the router to factory settings and then reconfiguring it will fix it?

    Hello,

I have three routers connected in this way:

            - router 1 - Linksys RV042 - gateway to Internet

            - router 2 - RV042G  ( WAN connected to router 3, LAN connected to RV042 LAN )

            - router 3 - RV042G ( WAN connected to router 2 )

Router 2 is connected to router 3 by a fiber link ( using mediaconvertors ). Because the path of this fiber is not under control, traffic has to be encrypted. The simplest solution seems to make a VPN between this two. The Internet acces is only possible through router 1. All servers ( DC, DNS etc) are in LAN behind router 1 / router 2.

After VPN was created from LAN behind router 3 I can ping the computers ( by IP and by name ) from router 1/ router 2 LAN by I cannot access Internet ( ping to www.google.com return only the IP and no responses).

I tryed different settings for "advanced routing" but nothing seems to work.

    Thank you!

DB:3.13:Cant Ping All Devices On Network 9z

    Jerry

Your original post gave the address of your laptop as 172.16.1.60. The routing table you supplied show this is connected to FastEthernet0/0.10. So it might be helpful if you would post the config of that interface.

It would also be helpful if you would check and see if the IP address and MAC from your laptop show up in the ARP table of this router. This would demonstrate a basic level of communication - or would explain why communication is not happening.

You have described the problem as not being able to ping to your laptop. You have not indicated whether you are having problems getting to things from your laptop. Perhaps you can clarify whether your laptop can access network resources.

As other have pointed out one possibility of the problem might be a firewall running on your laptop which is not allowing pings. Can you verify whether there is a firewall running on your laptop.

    Hi

check this link and try to use the troubleshooting commands in the link.

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6120/products_tech_note09186a00807e0aca.shtml

NAT-Traversal or NAT-T allows VPN traffic to pass through NAT or PAT devices, such as a Linksys SOHO router. If NAT-T is not enabled, VPN Client users often appear to connect to the PIX or ASA without a problem, but they are unable to access the internal network behind the security appliance.

Note: With IOS 12.2(13)T and later, NAT-T is enabled by default in IOS.

So, If you have an IOS lower than 12.2(13) try to enable the command or upgrade your IOS version.

    Hi,

We have a in-house developed software which is connected on LAN. Through LAN, access is very fast and through WAN it becomes very slow. When we try accessing it through LAN, the application opens in 5 seconds, but when we try to access it through WAN it takes 3-4 minutes.

We have 256kbps links to other offices (Channelised E1, 32*64 Kbps). We have divided it into 7 timeslots.

Following is the type of connectivity.

    LAN ---Firewall--WAN Router1----256Kbps---WAN Router2

When i try to ping (ping 10.10.10.20 -l 32000) from application server to any machine i get a good response, but when i try to ping to firewall it goes only till 15000 bytes. Also, when i ping from WAN router1 to WAN router2 it is able to ping with 18024 bytes (limit for cisco router). Firewall we are using is netscreen. What could be the problem ?

    DB:3.13:Wan Conntivity Problem sj

Ideally one session utilizes 16Kbps link at other office. I am not sure of the bytes that it is sends. At this office i tried access from only one machine, but still the performance was bad.

When i ping i get 10 ms response. I think the link is not a problem. I also changed the network card setting on server and desktops to 100Mbps/full-duplex mode.

Qos, sure i am going to implement but after i solve this problem.

Try to clear interface counters on FE to firewall and after some time of slow ping look at 'show interface' for the same FE.

There might be some clues in the output of that interface. Also see for 'show proc cpu hist' command and 'sh int fe2 stats' - this command will show how much packets where processor switched.

I have got a mandrake 10.1 with a wifi card (192.168.1.10). It is connected to a router (192.168.1.99). I installed windows Xp _ 192.168.1.12 (guest) on my linux (host).

The network was configured as "bridged".

The mandrake can ping the Windows Xp and can ping the router.

The router can ping the mandrake but can not ping the Windows Xp.

The Windows Xp can ping the Mandrake but can not ping the router.

I use vmnet-sniffer and could see some traffic from Windows Xp on the Linux for a ping from Xp to the router.

I got the same results with "hosts only" configuration.

    Did somebody make something working?

    Sylvain

DB:3.12:Can Not Ping Others Pc Than The Host _ Only 1 Wifi Card 9d

That's ludicrous frankly. The router is at .99 and the guest at .12. If you ping the guest from the router then the ARP traffic for the guest to discover the host (which is what you posted) would not exist in a vacuum. The worst case sequence should have been one subset of or all of the following:

router-XP: ARPQ (stop here if no response)

    XP-router: ARPR

router-XP : ICMP ECHO REQ (stop here if no ARP or response)

XP-router: ARPQ (stop here if no response)

    router-XP: ARPR

    XP-router: ICMP ECHO REPLY

If the stack on XP caches observed ARP traffic or the source of queries it receives then the second ARP case is not required.

Note that you observe an instance of the second ARP sequence but nothing of the initial stages of a ping. The router never even tries to reach the guest OR the router's traffic never reaches the guest. My bet is the latter and it is caused by the wireless on the router refusing to exchange data with MAC addresses that aren't associated. Note that I see it is obvious the ARP response from the router has a directed MAC address (though I would like to see the packet data directly).

    DB:3.12:Fvs336g Wan Dead? 9m

I purchased an FV336G two weeks ago. It was installed and working well.

The WAN stopped working completely (even though it was reported as online).

I can ping the router from a LAN connection and can access the web interface on the router.

    EXAMPLE WAN IP:

    IP Address: 192.168.1.179

    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

    Gateway: 192.168.1.1

    Primary DNS: 208.201.224.11

    Secondary DNS: 208.201.224.33

    MAC Address: 00:1f:33:1f:95:c9

    I've tried:

    - Connecting the router to two different networks (on both networks my laptop works fine).

    - When directly connected to the WAN I can ping google (and HTTP works fine). However I can not ping google when connected through the router.

    - The FVS336G is connected to another router, not a DSL/Cable modem. There's no issue with the WAN router only associating with one MAC address.

    - DNS is not an issue. I don't get any responses when pinging Google's IP address.

    - I don't get any responses when pinging Google's IP through the Monitoring Diagnostics Ping tool in the web interface

    - I've tried both WAN ports on the FVS336G.

    - I've tried manually setting MTU to 1500.

    - I've tried different WAN modes: failover, load balancing, and only using one connection

    - I've upgraded the firmware and reset to factory defaults.

    Any ideas? Blech!

    Hi,

I have a Cisco 857 router at a customer site. The router is online and connected to the internet. PC's in the local network can get an internet connection, but when I try and use one of the PC's to ping an external IP address, or domain name, the ping fails.

    eg.

    ping google.co.uk

    or

    ping 216.239.59.104

both give Request timed out, but the same PC can access google.

The router has a vpn connection to another site, this works as expected, and I can ping the internal IP address of PC's at the other site.

The router can also ping the external IP address of the office I work in.

Any ideas what could be causing this problem?

    Thanks

    access-list 101 permit icmp any any time-exceeded

access-list 101 permit icmp any any unreachable

This has now resolved the problem. Thanks for your help

    Hi,

all works except pinging netbios names on my inside network...

    Hi,

Recently managed to do /something/ to my WRT54GS.

The router it's self will still ping websites on the internet fine.

A PC connected directly to my cable-modem box also connects to the internet fine.
The PC gets a DHCP address when connected to the router and can connect to local PCs.

The PCs can connect to the router's web interface fine, but can not ping it. I've checked the settings and it's not turned off, so I believe I should be able to ping it.
I can't ping anything past the router, either.

The only slight discrepancy I can find is that the mac address seems to have the last character different somehow: On the sticker it ends in '6a', and arp shows the same. However in the router status screen, it shows it ending in '6b'. I've tried setting the arp for the router to point at 6b.
I've also tried setting the clone mac address thingy to 6a (when turned off, the ghosted entry boxes default to 6b).
None of these results in being able to ping the router. Or it doing anything else.

I've updated with the latest v7 firmware from the linksys site. Any ideas?

    Hi,

Yes, that's what I would have thought, but I most definitely could /not/ ping the router's ip (192.168.1.1) despite connecting to that very same IP in my browser and checking there was no restrictions on it.

I've just been on live chat to tech support and they got it sorted.

They took me through doing a factory restet as such - reset button held on for 90 seconds; 30 secs router on, 30 secs router off, 30 secs router on again.

Loaded the firmware I had tried last night on again and it's all working fine now.

    Thanks for the reply anyway.

Does your wireless access point have MAC address filtering enabled? If so, you will need to add the MAC address of the virtual NIC in the guest to the allowed list.

DB:3.10:Help! Wrt120n Won't Route Airport Express To Wireless Clients! mc

I have an Airport Express and two wireless routers. The Airport Express is connected to Router 1 via Ethernet. Router 2 is connected to Router 1 via Ethernet. Since I like to know which Wireless Router I'm connected to, Router 1 2 use different SSIDs. Router 1 is the DHCP server (DHCP turned off on Router 2). All security settings are turned OFF.

Router 1 is a Linksys WRT120N with latest firmware and Router 2 is a Belkin Wireless Router.

I can connect via wireless to Router 1 and Router 2 via the seperate SSIDs and have Internet connectivity (Router 1 is connected the the Internet) and print to a wireless printer connecter to the Router 1 wireless network.

Now here is the strange thing. I can see the Airport Express only if I connect to the Router 2 wireless network!!! I cannot see it if I connect to the Router 1 wireless network, yet the Airport Express is connected via Ethernet to ROUTER 1 !!

So for some reason, the LinkSys WRT120N Wireless Router won't route the Airport Express to a wireless client on it's own wireless network, but it will route it to an Ethernet client which is what any client connected to Router 2 wirelesslessly is seen as. When connected to router 1 wirelessly I can ping the IP of the Airport but something is preventing it from working with iTunes/iPhone/Airport Utility. It is bizarre because these are all devices connected to the same LAN. SInce I can ping it, it tells me that it isn't a routing issue, but there must be some sort of filter between the wireless and ethernet that is preventing the Airport protocol from being transmitted.

I actually reversed the configuration to see if it was the router and yes, if I connect the Airport Express to Router 2, I can see it when I connect wirelessly to Router 2. So essentially, fr some reason the WRT120N won't connect to an airport express connected by Ethernet when you connect to the WRT120N wirelessly.

    Hi,

Agree with Manoj, this is most probably due to the LAN IPs of this site has a return route, but the WAN IPs (which are used as the source of the echo request) doesn't have a return route, make sure that the PC has a correct default gateway and if this is not a leased point-to-point connection between the 2 sites (may be an MPLS VPN) make sure that the provider has routed your LAN and WAN IPs correctly.

    Hi.

I have a network connected to two Switches, and each Switch connected to the same two Routers. Those are the gateway to the outside.

There isn't any routing protocol configured in the routers, only static routes. The interface of the routers connected to the internal network have two ips (Primary and Secondary).

The problem is that, sometimes, mainly with virtual interfaces, when we reset a PC, the router didn't detect it, until we tried to go outside. For example making a ping to the router.

    Could anyone help me??

    DB:3.10:Problem With Connection In A Network. p1

    Ok.

I am going to try to explain it better.

When the PC want to go out it is as you said, but when the router is the one that needs to reach the PC and it hasn't a match in the ARP table, there is sometimes that the router doesn't find the PC. I don't know if it is because the router doesn't send the ARP request or the PC doesn't answer it.

    Thanks for your help.

My problem is users at both branch can get to the server at HQ,but when I do a ping to the server from one branch router, it will reply,on the other,it wont reply. But extended ping on both replies. The issue is that the two branches has same config.

DB:3.10:Ping Server At The Hq 9p

The issue is simple, you are relying on static routing and the HQ router may have reachability information for some subnets while other subnets are missing.

If you can ping from the router on extended ping but not on simple ping, then you need to identify the source IP address of the router and verify the routing table at the HQ router for that route.

Any reason why you aren't using dynamic routing protocol?

i have nat enabled on the router on the 1605r. It works fine when i directly connect a pc to the internal interface.

    I have a 1841 router. interface f0/0 172.16.0.2 255.255.255.252 is connected to e0/1 on the 1605r.

    Now on the f0/1 of the 1841 i have two subinteraces f0/1.1 10.0.0.1 255.240.0.0

    and f0/1.2 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0

i have dot1q encapsulation on the interfaces with vlan 1/f0/1.1 set to native.

The 2 vlans can talk fine, i can ping each machine on the vlans. But i can only ping as far as 172.16.0.2/ f0/0.

    i have a static route set on 1841 router 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 172.16.0.1.

Can anyone tell me what im doing wrong.

DB:3.10:Nat And Vlans On 1841 Router zf

I believe that the first issue is a routing question on the 1605. When anything on the VLANs of the 1841 attempts to ping to any address on the 1605 the source address of the ping will be 10.0.x.x or will be 192.168.0.x. Is there anything on the 1605 that tells it where this address space is and what interface to use to get to it?

I believe that supplying static routes on the 1605 for ip route 10.0.0.0 255.240.0.0 172.16.0.2 and ip route 192.168.0.0 255.255.255.0 172.16.0.2 will allow devices on the VLANs to ping addresses on the 1605.

If you want the devices on the VLANs to access things beyond the 1605 there is probably another issue. I am guessing that the NAT that you have configured processes the 172.16.0.0 subnet and prbably does not have anything in it about 10.0.0.0 or 192.168.0.0. You will probably have to add to the NAT logic to cover these addresses as well.

Check and make sure your interfaces did not auto negotiate at half duplex. If it does this can cause very slow preformance. It is best to hardcode the interface speed and duplex.

I am experiencing a strange problem with GRE tunnels we are using to connect a remote site. There are two routers, RT1 RT2, using HSRP each router has its own GRE tunnel connected over the internet to a router in our network hub. I am running EIGRP over the tunnels. The problem occurs when the tunnels go down due to an internet outage, when it comes back up everything is ok except i cannot ping an NMS server at our hub, i can ping devices in the same subnet as the server but not the server. I then need to shut down the inside interfaces to switch HSRP over to router 2, which can ping the server. If the tunnels go down again then router 2 cannot ping the server as with router 1. I have noticed that after roughly 4 hours the routers are able to ping the server again. I have checked the routing tables after each outage all the correct routes are there. The only traffic going over the active tunnel when it goes down is to from the server so i am not sure if this has anything to do with it.

I am puzzled as to why this is happening, has anyone out there seen this issue before?

No we can't connect to the server, i notice this using the sh ip eigrp neigh command, it is probably a blip but it was enough to stop the pings to the router before i added the static route.

I have a new router which I just configured and installed on SITE B which is connected to an X.21 DTU. The link to site A is up and I'm able to ping to Site A and all the way to Headoffice. I have a EIGRP 5 configured on both site A and site B routers. when I execute a command show ip route 1.1.1.0 on router at site B it's telling the subnet is not in the subnet table. When I do a ip eigrp 5 topology, I can only see site A and not the headoffice routes. I've now since added static routing on site B router. But it's still not helping. What am I missing, pls help

You dont have a network statement for your connection to the headoffice , add that and see what happens . Headoffice ip address does not fall under your 1 network statement . Check the headoffice end for the same thing.

i've tried configuring all kinds of settings but it still ends up with a high ping.

im using a 15mbps roadrunner cable internet.

I bought the WRT160Nv3 and connected it to the modem because my roommate and I share the internet.

I'm connected to the router with LAN and my roommate uses wireless.

In the DHCP client table, sometimes my roommate's computer was labeled as Wireless-G and sometimes Wireless.

And I do play some onlines games, for example MapleStory. I always have a super high ping when I ping test to roadrunner test site.

I've tried changing settings like the channel width from auto to 20Mhz only and vice versa and tried DMZ and QoS and every port forward possible.

Everytime after I reboot the router, it all went well with low ping but after 5 or 10 minutes, the ping goes back up to 300~400ms.

I've tried restoring to default settings and downloaded latest firmware but it still has a high ping.

This problem lasted for few months now, but I remember when both my roommate and I connected to the router thru wireless,

I didn't seem to have a high ping.

So where is the problem ? The LAN cable or when my roommate is using the wireless, I get high ping ?

I think you can try to re-flash the firmware on your router.

After re-flashing the firmware on your router, reset the router and reconfigure it.

Make sure that there is enough space around your router for ventilation.

    DB:3.08:Cannot Ping An Interface fm

    Hi all,

I have decided to add a separate vlan/wlan to the network. This interface uses port 1 (My management interface uses port 2). I have connected the port to a router, which is connected to a gateway.

I checked and the routing is done correctly. When I connect a pc to the router, I have access to internet. However, when I connect to the wlan that's associated with the vlan on port 1, I not only cannot access internet, but also cannot ping the router.

I can ping the interface when I connect to the wlan. However, I cannot ping the router.

The same thing happens when I connect my pc to the router. I cannot ping the interface as well.

Is there something that I am missing? It seems that there is a connectivity issue in the connection between port 1 and the router. Should I try using a crossover cable and see if it solves my problem?

    Thanks!

    Tibet

    DB:3.08:Cannot Ping An Interface fm

Option 2 will suit you well for the future.

Still as we speak can you post show arp switch and show arp kernel and check if router's mac address is present there?

Also you can look on the router and check for the WLC port 1 MAC address.

When I am connected to my WRT54G2 router (with most recentirmware) through the wireless connection and I ping a machine that is connected to the router, I don't get the right IP address. The machine has an IP address of 10.50.236.104 and what I get is the IP address of the router (10.50.236.1). If I then try to ping a machine that doesn't exist, I also get 10.50.236.1.

I am not sure what may be causing this, would anyone know?

DB:3.07:Ping Is Not Working Properly dj

10.50.236.1 is a gateway not the IP Address...

Who is your Internet Service Provider ?

Which machine has an IP Address of 10.50.236.104 ? wired or wireless ?

Is there any static IP to the computer ?

Have you got static IP from ISP ?

We have site to site VPN. using IPSEC/GRE. Centralised headend with several remote sites. One of the remote sites is connected but when I ping 347 Bytes or more to anything beyond the headend router i get less than 1% response. If I ping the headend router or other remote sites all is normal, any size is fine.

It was fine a few days ago, not aware of any config changes that might have caused it.

Other remote sites don't have this issue.

Any idea's anyone, got me a bit stumped.

Here is my setting, i am not sure it is i set wrong somethings.

I am using Mikrotik Router with ROS v6.1

The network always slow at night when it is about more then 40 clients.

The download speed and upload speed is unstable.

The WAN is 80Mbps, and i had limited each user only getting 2Mbps download and 1.5Mbps upload.

But sometimes the users only getting 0.2-0.4Mbps download and upload is less than 0.2Mbps.

Most of the time it happened to the slow upload speed.

    Anyone have idea about this?

And i want to ask, if i connected to the AP, i ping to the AP ip address, does the packet need go thru the gateway and just pass to AP, then the AP reply ping to router and router reply to clients pc?

Or i direct ping to AP ip address, and it will respond immediately to the clients pc without going thru switches and router?

    Here is my network diagram.

Here is my NS M5 at 172.16.0.7 possition. I just set the setting that i show you, i didn't set anythings others than this.

Here is the setting that my NS M5 at possition 172.16.0.17

Here is my setting at NS M5 172.16.2.38

Here is my setting of toughswitch POE 8 ports PRO.

All the others 5 switch with same setting.

Here is my unifi ap lr setting. I am using 2.4.4 controller.

TX rate i set auto. HT20

    Channel i set 1, 6, 11.

Here is the ping that i ping to Gateway 172.16.0.1/22.

This is the ping that i ping to NS M5 at 172.16.2.38.

This is the ping i ping to the AP that i connected to.

I am using ToughSwitch Tools "Ping" ping to AP(172.16.2.26) and M5(172.16.2.38), it is getting less than 3ms.

    DB:3.07:Wireless Network Not Stable s3

Ameridat: When i print screen the setting, i have another M5 connected to 172.16.0.7, which control unifi controller pc.

And if i ping to the AP, and the ping should be between how many ms? below 3ms? or around 10ms at your experience.

    Simple:

I would try a smaller channel width on the wireless link. 40mhz is seeing alot of noise. Also 172.16.0.17 has something in its way or doesn't have straight shot at AP. may need it's own AP

I just now had try change to 30MHz, and one of the M5(172.16.0.17) actually connected to Access point(172.16.0.7),

but there doesn't show any TX rate and RX rate, even transmit CCQ also not showing.

Strange one this as the Router only stopped working yesterday

Basically I can browse the web when connected via ethernet but not via wireless, it always worked fine and just stopped, I did not change anything.

The PC connects to the Router via Wireless, I can ping the Router with varied sized packets, however I can't Ping the DNS or get to any web sites....but I can when connected via ethernet

I have defaulted the Router, upgraded to the latest Firmware, removed all security and it will still not browse via wireless.

The Laptop in question works fine on my work Wireless Network

As a last ditch attempt I tried to change to another channel but the problem is the same

I think I have tried everything..... any ideas??????

    Many Thanks

    Welcome to the forum.

You are positive that you are connecting to your network? You should have given your network a unique SSID to make sure.

I would try clearing out all the preferred networks and manually setting all ip's, including your ISP's DNS.

I'm on the local router and CAN NOT ping my serial interface serial5/0 (10.0.6.254). I can ping ever other physical interface without issues.

When I do a show ip route for 10.0.6.254, it says that it's connected to G0/2. It should say directly connected S5/0. I just recently upgrade the code on the router to 12.4, but don't think that's the problem. Attached is the ping results and the router configuration. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

DB:3.06:Cisco 4000/2501 Routers Able To Ping In Only One Direction cp

    Hello:

I have two locations using Cisco Routers connected to Adtran ISU's connected via ISDN.

At Location A (MAIN SERVER SCO UNIX 5.0.6), I have a Cisco 4000 Router (connected to Adtran ISU's), and at Location 2 (REMOTE) I have a Cisco 2501 Router (also connected to Adtran ISU's.

    Here is my problem...

When I am at the remote location - I can ping any IP device at that location (router, Micro Annex XL), AND I can ping Accross the ISDN line to the MAIN SERVER LOCATION, and ping any ip addressed equipment on that side ( Servers, Computers, printers, etc). But from the MAIN SERVER LOCATION, I can only ping the Router at the REMOTE location. Any equipment "behind" the router, at the remote site (Laptop, Micro Annex XL) cannot be "ping"ed from the Main Location.

Since this is the case I cannot get my server - at the MAIN LOCATION to COMMUNICATE with WYSE 60 dumb terminals at the REMOTE SITE through the Micro Annex.

By the way I can also VPN (using my Laptop) from the Remote site to a CITRIX METAFRAME SERVER at the MAIN LOCATION - but oddly enough even the CITRIX server cannot "ping" the laptop across the routers?

Is there a Cisco Setting in either of the Cisco Routers that could be responsible or is there something else going on here? Ny suggestions would be appreciated?

    Regards

    Arif

Perhaps my question was not clear: the remote router has 2 IP addresses (128.1.8.2 (or in the posted config 192.1.8.2) and 128.1.9.254 (or in the posted config 192.1.9.254)). Which address are you pinging when you ping from the server?

Another thought has occurred to me: can you please tell us what IP address, what subnet mask, and what default gateway are configured on the Annexe?

It's funny because it wouldn't last night before i went to bed. So I guess it was just my laptop/pc that had the DNS issue? Thanks for the tip though, i'm going to move forward with the guest setup anyway, you know...for the next time i have guests.

    Hi,

in case you are using one and the same PC in both scenarios: 1. DSL modem----Netgear WGT624--- PC and 2. DSL modem ---- PC, and in the case 1 tunnel works, but in case 2 tunnel does not work, what I can think of is the Netgear router to stop ESP packets. In other words - not to support IPSec Passthrough, or at least is not enabled

Maybe you should check the router for such option first. My guess is that it should be in the Firewall part
