    Hi All
I can't seem to find a definite answer so I thought I'd ask here. Does Hyper-V 2012 R2 support fiber tape libraries now?
2012 only used to support fiber storage, but I keep finding references to people using fiber tape libraries successfully but can't track down if it's officially supported.
I'd like to run Hyper-V and have DPM 2012 R2 guests with the tape library passed through to one of them.
    Thanks.

DB:3.19:Hyper-V 2012 R2 And Fiber Tape Library Compatibility sz

    Hi Malco,
The Fiber Tape Library is similar to FC storage .
I didn't find a official document for the compatibility between hyper-v 2012R2 and FTL .
You can refer to the similar thread which has discussed before :
There are basically two ways to go:
1)Configure guest VM fibre channel support and try to pass-thru the library to inside your VM. Windows Server 2008 R2 seems to be supported. See here for more details on how it works:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831413.aspx

    2) Install free StarWind Tape Redirector on your Hyper-V host and export FC device as an iSCSI target. Then you cannot connect to it either in a loopback from any VM capable of iSCSI client side implementation (that should be really read *ANY* VM) or
over physical network. See here for more details:

    Hello,

Is it possible to install LDMS 9 with Oracle 11g (Separate unix server) with the Core Server over W2008 R2 x64?

As per LDMS9 requirements for Oracle 11g, it does not support Oracle Cient 11g R2 (64 bits) for the client side,

    My question is:

1.- Is officially supported installing LDMS9 core with any 64 bits Oracle client to be used with a Oracle 11g DDBB server?

    or as alternative approach:

2.- When Oracle client 11g R2 64 bits will be officially supported by LANDesk in LDMS 9?.

I can answer this one, as I tried upgrading our 8.8SP4 on Server 2003 32bit to 9.0SP2 on W2008R2 - it doesn't work. LDMS won't use the Oracle client on a 64-bit system - 32bit LDMS, 64bit Oracle, no connection. I tried anyway, and it doesn't work. I've been told by support that this should work in SP3, however.

I have never heard that it would be unsupported so you could do it.
My first thought when I readyour postwas Supported - but never ever do it
Then I started thinking - RODC was designed for smaller remote office where you cannot secure a normal Domain Controller or need to speed up authentication. That location might need a distribution point as well if you are using COnfigMgr. Because not object

So if I needed to place a DP on a remote location and I wasn´t allowed to setup a new server, and the only server on that location was a RODC - I would not say never ever do that.

Oracle 11g R2 is listed as supported in the compatibility matrix so you should be good. The CCX Administration Guide will cover how to setup the JDBC connection to Oracle (section 9-12).

Just keep in mind that CCX is has some limitations when it comes to SQL:
Note You cannot create Join queries that retrieve columns with the same name from different tables. (For example, you cannot create “select a.x, b.x from a,b” and “select a.x as y from a”.) Similarly, you cannot make aliases of column names. The SQL statements SELECT count(*) and SELECT min(*) are not supported.

    DB:2.59:Hit Upgrade From 4.6 To 4.7 k7

    Hello,

Correct, HIT 4.6 does not support 2012R2.

Re: upgrade vs. uninstall/install. It should work fine if you upgrade, but my own personal preference is remove, then install with standard Windows applications. With a complicated, sophisitcated OS like Windows, it is possible to have a file open and prevent complete removal. Since this software is tied into the MS iSCSI and MPIO subsystem, I prefer to remove, reboot, and then install new version.

    Thats just my suggestion.

    Hello,
I make ita practice to never share the VM nics with the host. This introduces a lot of complexity and instability to the NIC. Also, I wouldn't use it also for iSCSI. I think you'd find that setting up a dedicated NIC for VM traffic

    DB:2.51:Md3620i Server 2012 R2 Mpio Issues p3

I have several MD3620i storage arrays. My iscsi hosts are all Server 2012 R2. I have noticed some odd behavior with the MPIO settings after I upgraded the storage array controller to 7.84.56.60.

I am concerned because I have seen a virtual disk randomly migrate to the failover controller, and throw a warning stating it is not on its preferred controller.

I am using the RDVD 5.1..0.9 install DVD to install the Dell MPIO drivers/configuration.

My iscsi network config is exactly what is shown in the dell best practices guides. Two dedicated NICs on each server cabled to two dedicated iscsi 10gig switches. Four paths are built between each server and the array, one for each port on the array. My virtual disks are configured under disk groups and I have a windows host group that is defined to access the virtual disks.

In the MPIO window (Iscsi initiator, select target, Devices button, MPIO button) the load balance policy is set to Least Queue Depth. There are four paths listed, however they are all listed as active. Ive been using the MD3xxxx series for awhile, and this has always been two active (to the controller that is primary on the volume), and two standby (to the failover controller).

The same server is connected to another MD3620i running 7.80.41.60 firmware, and has the standard two active/two standby paths.

The MPIO configuration snapshot shows the following for the MD3620i running 7.84.56.60:

MPIO Disk6: 04 Paths, Least Queue Depth, Implicit and Explicit

Supported Load Balance Policies: FOO RRWS LQS WP

4 Paths are listed, two are Active/Optimized, and two are Active/Unoptimized. The controller state on all four is Active.

The MPIO configuration snapshot shows the following for the MD3620i running 7.80.41.60:

MPIO Disk1: 04 Paths, Least Queue Depth, Implicit and Explicit

Supported Load Balance Policies: FOO RRWS LQD WP

4 Paths are listed, two are Active/Optimized, and two are Standby. Controller state on all four is Active.

So why does the latest firmware make the two paths through the failover controller Active/Unoptimized instead of standby? Ive had these arrays in operation for a couple years without any issues, first with 2008 R2, and now with 2012 R2 for the past 9 months. I have only recently upgraded one of my MD3620is to 7.84.56.60.

DB:2.51:Windows 8.1 And Windows 2012 R2 As Wsus Clients On Wsus -Yomihara cm

Could you tell me if there is a document or an article in which Windows 8.1/ Windows Server 2012 R2 are noted as officially supported as WSUS client?

There likely is not any such official article at this point, but the empirical evidence makes the answer to this question incontrovertible.

From what version are Windows 8.1/ Windows Server 2012 R2 supported as WSUS client?

There are three versions of WSUS that will properly patch a Win8.1/WS2012R2 client.

    WSUS v3.2.7600.256 (i.e. with KB2734608 installed)WSUS v6.2 (WS2012)WSUS v6.3 (WS2012R2)
However, on the WSUS v3.2 and WSUS v6.2 servers, the Win8.1/WS2012R2 clients will not be identified with the correct Operation System string.

How to distinguish between Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows Server 2012 R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 of WSUS 3.0 SP2?
Enable the Version column in the target group display. Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 and earlier systems will have v7.6 of the WUAgent. Win8.0/WS2012 have v7.8.9200.16604. Windows 8.x and Windows Server 2012 (R2) systems will have a newer version
    of the WUAgent.
My customer installed WSUS 4.0 on Windows Server 2012 and also installed WSUS 4.0 on Windows Server 2012 R2.
Correction: On Windows Server 2012, the version of WSUS is v6.2. On Windows Server 2012 R2 the version of WSUS is v6.3. There is **NO** instance of WSUS v4 or WSUS v5 in existence; those version numbers were intentionally skipped in consideration of the
fact that WSUS now ships as an integrated component of Windows, so now they use the *WINDOWS* version numbers.

Is there any difference between version 6.2.9200.16384 and 6.3.9600.16384?
Yes. Some functionality that is native to WSUS v6.3 will require additional updates to be applied to WSUS v6.2. For example, the ability to properly recognize Win8.1/WS2012R2 systems, which will require a forthcoming update to WSUS v6.2. There are also differences
in the behavior of the Windows Update Agent, and the new behaviors in Win8.1/WS2012R2 are available for the Win8.0/WS2012 systems via various published updates.
Also... WS2012 shipped with .NET 4.0 and WSUS v6.2 was compiled on .NET 4.0. WS2012R2 shipped with .NET 4.5 and WSUS v6.3 was compiled on .NET 4.5. Arguably a pedantic difference, but there should be no doubt, these are completely separate builds of the
    product.Lawrence Garvin, M.S., MCITP:EA, MCDBA, MCSA

    Hello germanvm

Have you called your sales rep to try to order 2012 R2? The 9/18 release date was a limited release for existing customers. There is a general release that should have started today(11/1) for all customers. 2012 R2 is only available as a stand alone purchase currently. Factory installation is scheduled for a later release date, so you cant order a new system with 2012 R2. You can order a new system without an OS and order 2012 R2 separately to install yourself.

    Thanks

DB:2.47:Driver Signing For Boot Images - 2008r2 Site Server c7

I was trying to update a driver in our boot image due to instability in the previous version. This new driver officially supports Server 2012 R2 (as well as 2012, in a single driver) and is digitally signed.
However, the certificate is not recognized by our Site Server which runs on 2008r2 (because it is a 2012 driver), and DISM.log is flagging the driver as Unsigned, and I cannot update the boot image - it fails every time.

I'm able to work around this by injecting it myself with /forceunsigned, but it doesn't seem to be the correct way of handling this. I can also do the mount and driver add on my 8.1 workstation, and not need /forceunsigned (thus proving
    it IS signed.)

While it's flagging almost every other driver as unsigned (which is incorrect) - those other drivers aren't deemed boot-critical, so it allows them.
This one is a SCSI driver, hence it blocking it.

Signature status of driver \\SCCMServer\ConfigMgrDrivers\Server 2012\SCSIAdapter\hpsa2_62.8.0.64\hpsa2.inf is: UNSIGNED - CDriverPackage::InitSignatureStatus

    Cannot install non-signed boot-critical drivers on amd64 images. Use /forceunsigned switch to override. \\SCCMServer\ConfigMgrDrivers\Server 2012\SCSIAdapter\hpsa2_62.8.0.64\hpsa2.inf - CDriverManager::CheckClientAddDriverScenarios(hr:0x80070032)

For those of us who have our site servers on 2008r2, I'd call this a bug. Anyone else getting this? Is my workaround the supported solution for people not running site servers on Server 2012 / 2012 R2?

    DB:2.46:Windows 2012 R2 Dedup For Vhd(X) Files sa

    Hello folks,
I have couple of specific questions regarding the dedup feature present in Server 2012 R2. As I understad, the recommeded way of doing this is to have a Scale Out File Server that hosts as a VHD repository and is responsible for running the dedup tasks.
This is ofcourse in addition to the Hyper-V hosts.
    Now, the questions:
    1. Can the dedup feature be used for VHDs present on local volumes of Hyper-V hosts? I understand that there will be competition for resources. But assume that I have an environment where there is simply nothing running in the night. I could schedule a dedup
at that time with no race for the resources? Infact, I have tried this and it seems to work. Question is whether it is officially supported by MS? If not, then why?
    2. The dedup feature seems more enhanced in R2 and seems to support deduplication of live VHD(X)s. In other words, they can be deduped even when in use. Are there specific scenarios for which this is supported? Or is it supported for just about any running
    VM?
    3. Is the Scale Out File Server Model the only supported usage scenario from MS?
    4. Can a dedup job be run on a SMB 3 volume? Assume that there are enough idle system resources present on the Hyper-V host.

All the discussion about the Windows 2008 R2 SVGA issue mention it won't be supported until 2008 R2 goes GA. It's now GA, but it appears to be still flagged as experimentally supported. Anyone have any ideas when VMWare plans to officially support 2008 R2?

Our SCSM 2012 R2 UR2 installation still includes the SP1 OpsMgr agent. Is there a supported scenario for SCSM 2012 R2 and the SCOM 2012 R2 agent?

    DB:2.45:Scsm 2012 R2 - Is There A Supported Scenario For The R2 Opsmgr Agent? j7

Saw that on the notes. We're not really experiencing any issues. But the OpsMgr console is reporting that our SCSM 2012 R2 instances show an SP1 version fortheir OpsMgr agents.

It seems that the OpsMgr agent was not updated from SP1 to R2 when SCSM 2012 R2 was released. Just looking for confirmation.
Release notes do not indicate anything on it.

    Hi,
I've got a simple question I couldn't find the answer on the net.
Is SharePoint 2013 officially supported (supported, not just working almost fine)by Microsoft if installed on a Windows 2012 Server Core? Does it depend on the roles of the farm?
If possible I would like to have official sources from Microsoft.
    Thanks for helping :)Cya

    Hello,
I was able to run it using the core minimal interface. Basically, you use a GUI install and then remove the GUI and switch to the minimal interface. Here's a link on how to do it...

    Hello,

I have a Host Windows Server 2008 R2 with two NICs.

have configured the iscsi connections to the MD3620I using the MDCU. By default theMDCU hasset the mpio policy to least Queue Depth

When I went to change the policy settings on the iSCSI initiator to Fail over Only, I am getting a error Incorrect policy Settings

How can I change this ?

    Thank you

I dont think multipathing with auto failover works when connecting a MD3620i to a Windows server with multiple volumes. Ive tried for sometime, and the best ive got it is working until I change the owning controller of the volume. The multipathing components of the MD3620i install CD dont seem to do anything useful.

    DB:2.44:Scom 2012 R2 Agent With Scom 2007 R2? 93

Server: SCOM 2007 R2 (now); eventual upgrade to SCOM 2012 R2
OS to monitor: Windows Server 2012
I understand SCOM 2012 agents can be installed on Windows Server 2012 and report back to SCOM 2007 R2 MGs.
I haven't been able to find documentation for or against whether SCOM 2012 R2 agents can be installed on Windows Server 2012 and can report back to SCOM 2007 R2 MGs... Is this supported?
I can't find anything on any specific CU level that might be required on SCOM 2007 R2 to support this.

    DB:2.44:Scom 2012 R2 Agent With Scom 2007 R2? 93

I have also not found any info about yourscenario. The reason I think, why we cannot find any information, it that not the best way to have it setup. It can be that you get it to work.
I will recommend you to use SCOM 2007 R2 agent. And when you upgrade to 2012, then a part of the upgrade will be to upgrade the agent.

    Best Regards Christian 'Biks'

We are thinking about upgrading (replacing) our DCs to 2012 with 2008 R2 functional level.
Is Exchange 2007 SP3 officially supported by Microsoft on this setup? Will it work with WS2012 DCs?

DB:2.44:Windows Server 2012 Dc And Exchange 2007 Sp3, Will It Work? fd

It's better to ask Exchange support questions in the Exchange forum.
Setting the 2012 DCs to 2008 R2 functional level means that you are running a 2008 R2 domain, not a 2012 domain, so I don't see how Exchange would even be able to tell the difference. But, that's why you ask Exchange questions in the Exchange forum.

as Microsoft provides also help and fixes for Office 2003/2007 on Windows server 20008 R2 i would say yes, it is supported. Here is an example about
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2498855 and keep in mind that you may have multiple problems/errors that may occur in that combination from Office 2003 on Windows server 2008 R2.Best regards
